Cathy Dyches, PhD, RN, is an associate professor and assistant dean of the Athens campus at Augusta University, Athens, Georgia. She primarily teaches BSN and Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) students and focuses on educational research and clinical decision making. Using an ethnographical case study method, faculty members examined senior nursing students' experiences and learning during a cultural immersion service-learning trip in Haiti. Pediatric care was emphasized, as well as cultural awareness and competency. Following thematic analysis, students' guided reflections revealed common themes: knowledge and skills, culture, healthcare, and challenges and opportunities.
