Infant and young child feeding practice status and its determinants in UAE: results from the MISC cohort.

Background: To evaluate breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices and their determinants among infants and young children in the United Arab Emirates using the 2021 WHO/UNICEF IYCF guidelines.

Methods: The Mother and Infant Study Cohort (MISC), is a prospective study of mothers recruited in their third gestational trimester and followed with their infants up to 18 months of age (n = 167). Data were collected at 3rd trimester, delivery, 2, 6, 12, and 18 months postpartum via questionnaires, review of medical records, anthropometric measurements, and 24-hour dietary recalls of the child's intake at 6, 12, and 18 months.

Differences in sensorimotor integration, cervical sensorimotor control, and cognitive-motor dual tasking costs in chronic non-specific neck pain patients with high vs. low catastrophizing tendencies compared to healthy controls.

Chronic non-specific neck pain (CNSNP) is a common condition and its relationship to the pain catastrophizing construct in terms of sensorimotor functions and dual task performance is not fully understood. We aimed to investigate the differences in sensorimotor integration, cervical sensorimotor control, and cognitive-motor dual tasking abilities between CNSNP patients (> 3 months) with high versus low catastrophizing tendencies and healthy controls. Ninety participants were recruited, 30 asymptomatic controls, and 60 patients with CNSNP; 30 scoring high (> 75th percentile) and 30 scoring low (< 25th percentile) on the pain catastrophizing scale (PCS).

Knowledge, attitudes, and use of the Mediterranean diet in practice among dietitians in the United Arab Emirates: a cross-sectional study.

Dietitians are uniquely positioned to promote the Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet), a diet recognized for its health benefits and sustainability. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitudes regarding the MedDiet among dietitians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and to examine the frequency and correlates of using this diet in clinical practice. Practicing dietitians (n = 220) completed a 44-item web-based questionnaire, verified for face, content and construct validity, as well as internal and parallel form reliability.

Comparing and assessing physical activity and sedentary behaviour guidelines for different populations with and without chronic conditions and/or disabilities: a systematic review protocol.

Physical activity guidelines targeting different populations with and without chronic diseases or disabilities are required to meet the diverse functional and physiological needs experienced by different subgroups of people to achieve optimal health benefits. As the importance of physical activity guidelines in promoting optimal health and well-being becomes increasingly recognised, there is a critical need for their systematic evaluation to ensure they remain effective, applicable and aligned with evolving health needs and scientific insights. This study aims to systematically review, critically evaluate, and compare global physical activity and sedentary behaviour guidelines on frequency, intensity, time, and type of exercise for adults, pregnant and postpartum women, and people living with chronic conditions and/or disabilities.

Which psychological needs profile exhibits higher engagement and favorable attitudes toward interprofessional education? A cluster analysis among health and social care Hong Kong students.

Background: This study aimed to investigate which basic psychological needs profile, based on different levels of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, could exhibit higher student engagement and favorable attitudes toward interprofessional education (IPE).

Methods: A total of 341 undergraduate and postgraduate health and social care students enrolled in an IPE simulation participated in this study. Data were analyzed using a person-centered approach using a two-step cluster analysis, multiple analysis of variance, and bootstrapped independent t-tests.

Problem: There is currently no validated version of the Postpartum Childcare Stress Checklist (PCSC) in the context of Arabic-speaking women in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Background: The postpartum period is a transformative phase in a woman's life, during which mothers are highly vulnerable to mental health problems, compounded by childcare demands. Childcare stress is a strong predictor of postpartum depression.

Test-Retest Reliability of a Bilingual Arabic-English Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index among Adolescents and Young Adults with Good or Poor Sleep Quality.

 The Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is widely used in different population groups to assess self-reported sleep quality over the previous month. As the Arabic language is spoken by more than 400 million people, the PSQI has been translated into Arabic for its optimal application to Arabic-speaking individuals. However, the test-retest reliability of the Arabic version of the PSQI has not been reported yet.

Perceived Experiences and Needs of Digital Resources Among Postpartum Women in the United Arab Emirates: Qualitative Focus Group Study.

Background: The postpartum period is a critical phase in a woman's life, marked by various physical, psychological, and social challenges. In light of the rapid proliferation and uptake of digital technologies, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), mothers increasingly seek informational and emotional support from digital resources. No previous study has thoroughly explored the usage of various digital resources beyond telehealth services in the UAE.

Lumbar spine coronal balance parameters as a predictor of rehabilitation management outcomes in patients with radiculopathy due to lumbar disc herniation: A multicenter prospective case series study.

This prospective consecutive case series was conducted in 5 physiotherapy clinics in the UAE from January 2021-March 2023 to assess coronal lumbar spine radiographic parameters as a predictor of conservative therapy outcomes in patients suffering from low back and leg pain due to lumbar herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP). Ninety patients (mean age 44 yrs., 54 % male) with lumbar HNP underwent conservative therapy.

The Relationship between Personality Trait and Dental Anxiety in Students of Health-Related Specialties: A Pilot Study.

Objectives:  Dental anxiety is a common issue affecting a significant portion of the population, often leading to avoidance of dental care and subsequent oral health problems. Understanding the underlying factors contributing to dental anxiety is a crucial step toward developing an effective intervention. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of dental anxiety among students of health-related majors, evaluate their personality traits, and find the correlation between them.

Students' motivation and engagement in interprofessional education: the mediating role of peer relatedness.

Introduction: Students' peer relatedness is vital to their academic achievement and engagement. However, little is known about the mechanisms that can explain such a link in health professions education, especially in interprofessional education (IPE), where interprofessional socialization is promoted. To address the research gap in understanding the social dynamics embedded within IPE and their impact on crucial motivational outcomes, this study examines how peer relatedness (belonging) mediates the link between motivation (both intrinsic and extrinsic) and engagement in IPE.

Validity and Reliability of the Transcultural Arabic Adaptation of the Food-Mood Questionnaire Among College Students.

A culturally adapted screening tool for mental health and dietary quality is needed to address the significant challenges in mental health and suboptimal diets among college students. The purpose of this study was to validate the Food-Mood Questionnaire (FMQ), originally developed in English, among Arab college students. Students attending the University of Sharjah were invited to complete the questionnaire ( = 224).

Efficacy of Theta Burst Stimulation in Bipolar Depression: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Purpose: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has emerged as a promising alternative therapeutic modality for bipolar depression. Theta Burst Stimulation (TBS) a novel variant of rTMS is currently evolving as an effective and safe therapeutic tool in the management of bipolar depression, although it is still in the initial phase. In the present systematic review and meta-analysis, data from various studies investigating the effectiveness and tolerability of TBS in individuals with bipolar depression were synthesized.

Purine metabolism is upregulated in various cancers including colorectal cancer (CRC). While previous work has elucidated the role of estrogen (E2) in metabolic reprogramming and ATP production, the effect of E2 on purine metabolism remains largely unknown. Herein, the impact of E2 signalling on purine metabolism in CRC cells was investigated using metabolome and transcriptome profiling of cell extracts derived from E2-treated HCT-116 cells with intact or silenced estrogen receptor alpha (ERα).

Dawn-to-dusk intermittent fasting is associated with overexpression of autophagy genes: A prospective study on overweight and obese cohort.

Aim And Background: A growing body of evidence supports the impact of intermittent fasting (IF) on longevity and healthy aging via the modulation of autophagy genes. The activation of the catabolic autophagic machinery (LAMP2, LC3B, ATG5, and ATG4D) has protective effects against degenerative aging and chronic diseases. This research examined the changes in the expression of the aforementioned genes upon the observance of dawn-to-dusk IF among metabolically healthy participants with overweight and obesity.
