Service de chirurgie orthopédique et traumatologique, hôpital Ambroise-Paré (AP-HP), hôpitaux universitaires Paris Île-de-France Ouest, 9, avenue Charles-de-Gaulle, 92100 Boulogne-Billancourt, France. Electronic address:

Percutaneous methods can be used to perform many surgical procedures on the soft tissues and bones of the forefoot, thereby providing treatment options for all the disorders and deformities seen at this site. Theoretical advantages of percutaneous surgery include lower morbidity rates and faster recovery with immediate weight bearing. Disadvantages are the requirement for specific equipment, specific requirements for post-operative management, and lengthy learning curve.

APHP Hôpitaux universitaires Paris Ile-de-France Ouest, Service de Microbiologie, Hôpital Ambroise Paré, 9 avenue Charles de Gaulle, 92100 Boulogne-Billancourt, France; EA 3647, Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, 2 avenue de la Source de la Bièvre, 78180 Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France. Electronic address:

We developed a multilocus sequence typing (MLST) scheme for Mycobacterium abscessus sensu lato, based on the partial sequencing of seven housekeeping genes: argH, cya, glpK, gnd, murC, pta and purH. This scheme was used to characterize a collection of 227 isolates recovered between 1994 and 2010 in France, Germany, Switzerland and Brazil. We identified 100 different sequence types (STs), which were distributed into three groups on the tree obtained by concatenating the sequences of the seven housekeeping gene fragments (3576bp): the M.

Purpose: To assess post-operative pain in patients who underwent arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction by the all-inside technique.

Methods: A prospective randomized comparative parallel trial was performed in 2010-2011 including all patients who underwent an ACL reconstruction in an orthopaedic department in accordance with the CONSORT statement 2010. Patients were randomized to the surgical procedure, all-inside or classical, and were blinded to the surgical technique.

Background: Pigmented villo-nodular synovitis (PVNS) is an uncommon proliferative condition of the synovial membrane that chiefly affects the knee. Arthroscopic synovectomy may carry lower morbidity rates but higher recurrence rates than open synovectomy. Here, our objective was to evaluate recurrence rates and functional outcomes after primary arthroscopic synovectomy for PVNS of the knee.

Purpose: The success of shoulder stabilization with the Latarjet procedure depends on the correct positioning of the coracoid graft at the glenoid. The aim of this study was to assess intra-observer reproducibility and inter-observer reproducibility of a new standardized CT scan analysis for coracoid graft positioning in the axial plane after the Latarjet procedure and to assess the positioning in the study group.

Methods: A consecutive series of 27 patients (22 men, 5 woman, 26.

Introduction: Meniscal allograft transplantation seems to be a valid therapeutic option to restore the knee function and limit the development of osteoarthritis after menisectomy. No surgical technique has been shown to provide better results than others. The main objective of this study was to assess graft healing after arthroscopic meniscal allograft transplantation without bone plugs.

Background: One of the identified risk factors for anterior shoulder instability is bone loss on the anterior-inferior glenoid rim. The aim of our study was to assess intraobserver and interobserver reproducibility of the Bernageau view to estimate glenoid bone loss and validate this radiographic method with computed tomography (CT) scan. The second objective was to find correlation between Bernageau and arthroscopic bone loss measurements.

Introduction: In France, approximately 36,000 anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgical procedures are performed every year. Technical progress, in particular arthroscopy, has made surgery more precise, but more expensive. In a context of healthcare cost containment, the increase in the cost of technology must be compared to the improved outcome for the patients.

[Health care surrogate and Alzheimer's disease].

Soins Gerontol

March 2013

Laboratoire d'éthique médicale, Université Paris V-René Descartes et unité de court séjour gériatrique, hôpitaux universitaires Paris Ile-de-France Ouest, AP-HP, Boulogne-Billancourt, France.

Many healthcare professionals prejudge the capacity of a patient suffering from Alzheimer's disease to designate a health care surrogate. Consequently they deprive themselves of a person with whom they can discuss the patient's care while also depriving the patient of support and assistance. While the task of the health care surrogate is made more difficult as a result of cognitive disorders, their role can only be beneficial in a balanced relationship.

A procedure for the systematic nomination of a health care surrogate was put in place following a multi-disciplinary approach within an acute care geriatric unit at Ambroise-Paré hospital in Boulogne-Billancourt. Its originality lies in the way the whole team, on the initiative of a doctor, prepared the procedure, implemented it and assessed it. A review.

A study carried out in two hospitals in the Paris region shows that the patients surveyed find the health care surrogate system interesting but also that there is widespread lack of awareness of the subject. The system appears to correspond to patients' expectations with the majority of patients nominating a family member.

Homebound status increases death risk within two years in the elderly: results from a national longitudinal survey.

Laboratoire Santé-Environnement-Vieillissement (EA2506), Université Versailles Saint Quentin, Centre de Gérontologie, Hôpitaux Universitaires Paris Ile-de-France Ouest, site Sainte Périne AP-HP, 49 rue Mirabeau, 75016 Paris, France.

Homebound status is associated with poorer physical and mental health, as well as disability in the elderly. We aimed to examine the prevalence and the role of homebound status on mortality in a representative sample of the French non-institutionalized population. This study included 7497 people aged 65 and over who were interviewed in 1999 and 2001 about the consequences of health problems on activities of daily living.

Whole-Body muscle MRI in a series of patients with congenital myopathy related to TPM2 gene mutations.

Neuromuscul Disord

October 2012

AP-HP, Hôpitaux Universitaires Paris-Ile-de-France Ouest, Pôle neuro-locomoteur, Hôpital R. Poincaré. Service d'imagerie médicale, Groupe Rachis Garches, F-92380 Garches, France.

Beta-tropomyosin 2 (TPM2) gene mutations are a rare cause of congenital myopathy with variable clinical and histological features. We describe muscle involvement using Whole-Body muscle Magnetic Resonance Imaging (WBMRI) in 8 individuals with genetically proven TPM2 mutations and different clinical and histological features (nemaline myopathy, 'cap disease', Bethlem-like phenotype, arthrogryposis). Most patients shared a recognizable MRI pattern with the involvement of masticatory and distal lower leg muscles.

Molecular and functional analysis of two new MTTP gene mutations in an atypical case of abetalipoproteinemia.

Abetalipoproteinemia (ABL) is an inherited disease characterized by the defective assembly and secretion of apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins caused by mutations in the microsomal triglyceride transfer protein large subunit (MTP) gene (MTTP). We report here a female patient with an unusual clinical and biochemical ABL phenotype. She presented with severe liver injury, low levels of LDL-cholesterol, and subnormal levels of vitamin E, but only mild fat malabsorption and no retinitis pigmentosa or acanthocytosis.
