Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to determine if paraoxonase 1 (PON1) activity could indicate cardiovascular risk in young Tunisian individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
  • - Researchers compared PON1 activity and various cholesterol levels in 109 T1D patients and 97 healthy controls, finding that diabetics had significantly lower PON1 activity and higher cholesterol levels.
  • - The findings suggest that decreased PON1 activity correlates with an increased number of cardiovascular risk factors in T1D patients, indicating that improving PON1 activity might help reduce cardiovascular risk.
