[Inability of hospital computerised physician order entry systems to secure the use of concentrated potassium intravenous solutions].

Objectives: To determine whether hospital computerised physician order entry (CPOE) systems contribute to securing intravenous potassium chloride (KCl) prescriptions with reference to the recommendations issued by French healthcare agencies.

Methods: We sent a questionnaire to the members of the Association pour le Digital et l'Information en Pharmacie.

Results: More than three quarters of the 84 responses received involving 23 CPOE systems indicate that it is possible to: prescribe an ampoule of concentrated potassium chloride 10% 10mL intravenously without any diluents (80%); prescribe 4g of KCl in a bag of 500mL of NaCl 0,9% (98%); prescribe a solution that contains 6 grams of KCl per liter (94%); prescribe the administration of an injectable ampoule orally by means of a free text comment (83%).

In the context of the recent re-emergence of mpox worldwide, the French Society for Hospital Hygiene (SF2H) performed a literature review of the transmission paths and proposed specific recommendations for healthcare workers (HCWs) caring for patients with suspected or confirmed MPXV. In developed countries, the risk of contamination among HCWs in healthcare facilities seemed to be very low, limited to contamination through needle stick injuries. Two additional contamination cases were reported and not fully explained.

Data on herpes simplex virus (HSV) polymorphism as well as acyclovir (ACV) and foscarnet (FOS) resistance mutations are not exhaustive and may hinder accurate diagnosis by next-generation sequencing (NGS). Here, we report novel UL23 and UL30 substitutions for HSV1 and HSV2 identified in immunocompromised patients treated for hematological malignancies during the last 6 years of HSV resistance surveillance at the University Hospital of Lyon. For HSV1, 35 novel UL23 substitutions and 52 novel UL30 substitutions were identified.

Purpose: Vancomycin dosing remains challenging in patients receiving intermittent hemodialysis, especially in developing countries, where access to therapeutic drug monitoring and model-based dose adjustment services is limited. The objectives of this study were to describe vancomycin population PK in patients receiving hemodialysis in a Malian and French center and examine the optimal loading dose of vancomycin in this setting.
