Sugar and fatty acid content are among the important factors that contribute to the intensity of flavor in aromatic coconut. Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the sugar and fatty acid metabolites in the flesh of aromatic coconuts, along with identifying the key synthetic genes, is of significant importance for improving the development of desirable character traits in these coconuts. However, the related conjoint analysis of metabolic targets and molecular synthesis mechanisms has not been carried out in aromatic coconut until now.

The coconut is an important tropical economical crop and exhibits high tolerance to various types of salinity stress. However, little is known about the molecular mechanism underlying its salt tolerance. In this study, RNA-Seq was applied to examine the different genes expressed in four coconut varieties when exposed to a salt environment, resulting in the generation of data for 48 transcriptomes.

Phytoplasmas are a group of plant prokaryotic pathogens distributed worldwide. To comprehensively reveal the diversity of the pathogens and the diseases they cause on Hainan, a tropical island with abundant biodiversity in China, a survey of phytoplasmal diseases was performed from 2009 to 2022. Herein, molecular identification and genetic analysis were conducted based on the conserved genes of phytoplasmas.

This limitation severely hinders the optimization of coconut breeding. To address this issue, we propose a new model based on the improved architecture of Deeplab V3+.

Functional traits play an important role in studying the functional niche in plant communities. However, it remains unclear whether the functional niches of typical forest plant communities in different climatic regions based on functional traits are consistent. Here, we present data for 215 woody species, encompassing 11 functional traits related to three fundamental niche dimensions (leaf economy, mechanical support, and reproductive phenology).

Background: The red palm weevil (RPW), (Olivier), is an important quarantine pest, which has caused serious economic losses in various palm species, such as coconut, oil palm and date palm. Finding effective biocontrol resources is important for the control of this pest and the protection of palm crops.
Methods: A pathogenic strain HJ-01 was isolated from infected and dead pupa of using tissue separation method.

Ceratocystis paradoxa is a major cause of postharvest disease in tender coconuts worldwide. We conducted a comprehensive study using widely targeted metabolomics, electronic tongue (E-tongue), and electronic nose (E-nose) analyses to investigate the impacts of C. paradoxa invasion on the quality of tender coconut water (TCW) from fresh control (FC), uninoculated (UN), skin-inoculated (SI), and deep-inoculated (DI) nuts.

Background: The fruit population of most plants is under the control of a process named "physiological drop" to selectively abort some developing fruitlets. However, frequent fruitlet abscission severely restricts the yield of Areca catechu. To reveal the physiological and molecular variations in this process, we detected the variation of phytohormone levels in abscised and non-abscised fruitlets in A.

Tender coconut (TC) is popular around the world. Postharvest storage of TC leads to a decline in its appearance quality and flavor in both liquid endosperm (LE) and solid endosperm (SE). While LE is the most consumed part and remains in a liquid state, SE is the only cellular tissue directly connected to LE and may be the main contributor to flavor deterioration during storage.

Coconut is an important tropical and subtropical fruit and oil crop severely affected by cold temperature, limiting its distribution and application. Thus, studying its low-temperature reaction mechanism is required to expand its cultivation range. We used growth morphology and physiological analyses to characterize the response of coconuts to 10, 20, and 30 d of low temperatures, combined with transcriptome and metabolome analysis.

Procuring high-grade RNA from mature coconut tissues is a tricky and labor-intensive process due to the intricate scaffold of polysaccharides, polyphenols, lipids, and proteins that form firm complexes with nucleic acids. However, we have effectively developed a novel method for the first time, letting the retrieval of high-grade RNA from the roots, endosperm, and mesocarp of mature coconut trees take place. In this method, we exploited dichloromethane as a replacement to phenol/chloroform for RNA recovery from mature coconut tissues.

The (SQUAMOSA-promoter binding protein-like) gene family is one of the largest plant transcription factors and is known to be involved in the regulation of plant growth, development, and stress responses. The genome-wide analysis of gene members in a diverse range of crops has been elucidated. However, none of the genome-wide studies on the gene family have been carried out for oil palm, an important oil-yielding plant.

The red palm weevil (RPW, ) is an invasive and highly destructive pest that poses a serious threat to palm plants. To improve the efficiency of adult RPWs' management, an enhanced YOLOv5 object detection algorithm based on an attention mechanism is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the detection capabilities for small targets are enhanced by adding a convolutional layer to the backbone network of YOLOv5 and forming a quadruple down-sampling layer by splicing and down-sampling the convolutional layers.

is an economically valuable tree worldwide. The species has nearly become extinct during the Quaternary, which has likely resulted in reduction of its genetic variability. The genetic variability is now conserved in few natural populations in China and a number of cultivars that are, however, derived from a few ancient trees, helping the species survive in China through medieval times.

With the adverse effects of climate change, selecting the best tolerant varieties to drought stress is highly necessary to sustain the yield and productivity of agricultural crops including tree crops. However, classical drought tolerance selection studies of tree crops have several limitations due to their relatively long lifespan. In this study, we propose a method to identify stable high-yielding trees under changing soil moisture conditions using yield data of existing elite tree populations.

One-third of the annual food produced globally is wasted and much of the food waste (FW) is unutilized; however, FW can be valorized into value-added industrial products such as biofuel, chemicals, and biomaterials. Converting FW into soil amendments such as compost, vermicompost, anaerobic digestate, biofertilizer, biochar, and engineered biochar is one of the best nutrient recovery and FW reuse approaches. The soil application of FW-based amendments can improve soil fertility, increase crop production, and reduce contaminants by altering soil's chemical, physical, microbial, and faunal properties.
