Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a life-threatening clinical syndrome with no effective treatment currently available. This study aims to investigate whether Iron-Quercetin complex (IronQ) pretreatment can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in AKI and explore the underlying mechanisms.
Methods: A cisplatin-induced AKI model was established in male C57BL/6 mice, followed by the intravenous administration of 1x10ˆ6 MSCs or IronQ-pretreated MSCs (MSC).

Pesticide exposure might be an important risk factor for sleep disorders, however current epidemiological evidence is limited. The main objective of this study was to determine the association between historical use of pesticides and sleep disorders. Data on the historical use of 38 individual pesticides of almost thirty thousand Thai farmers were collected using questionnaire method.

Background: The cytochrome P450s-mediated metabolic resistance and the target site insensitivity caused by the knockdown resistance (kdr) mutation in the voltage-gated sodium channel (vgsc) gene were the main mechanisms conferring resistance to deltamethrin in Culex quinquefasciatus from Thailand. This study aimed to investigate the expression levels of cytochrome P450 genes and detect mutations of the vgsc gene in deltamethrin-resistant Cx. quinquefasciatus populations in Thailand.

The accurate staging of liver fibrosis is crucial for managing chronic liver disease (CLD). Although magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is the reference standard for noninvasive fibrosis assessment, its cost, specialized hardware, and operational demands restrict accessibility. In contrast, two-dimensional shear-wave elastography (2D-SWE) is more affordable, accessible, and widely integrated into routine ultrasound systems.

Strawberries are valued globally for their nutritional, aesthetic, and economic benefits. Optimizing blue-to-red LED ratios and nitrogen levels is essential for sustainable indoor strawberry cultivation. This factorial study investigated the effects of blue and red LED combination ratios (L1; 1:3, L2; 1:4, and L3; 1:6) and nitrogen levels (N1; 100 and N2; 200 mg/L) on the physiology and performance of strawberries in a plant factory.

Importance: Determining spectacle-corrected visual acuity (VA) is essential when managing many ophthalmic diseases. If artificial intelligence (AI) evaluations of macular images estimated this VA from a fundus image, AI might provide spectacle-corrected VA without technician costs, reduce visit time, or facilitate home monitoring of VA from fundus images obtained outside of the clinic.
Objective: To estimate spectacle-corrected VA measured on a standard eye chart among patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) in clinical practice settings using previously validated AI algorithms evaluating best-corrected VA from fundus photographs in eyes with DME.

The formula-based estimation of the right internal jugular venous (IJV) catheterization depth can be inaccurate when using ultrasound guidance. External landmark-based and radiological landmark-based methods have been proposed as alternatives to estimate the insertion depth. This study aimed to evaluate these methods using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)-guided insertion depth as the reference.

Background/aims: Alcohol represents a leading burden of disease worldwide, including alcohol use disorder (AUD) and alcohol-related liver disease (ALD). We aim to assess the global burden of AUD, ALD, and alcohol-attributable primary liver cancer between 2000-2021.
Methods: We registered the global and regional trends of AUD, ALD, and alcohol-related liver cancer using data from the Global Burden of Disease 2021 Study, the largest and most up-to-date global epidemiology database.

Background: Severe metaphyseal comminution and sizable bone defect of the distal femur are high risks of fixation failure. To date, no exact magnitude of comminution and bone loss is determined as an indication for augmentation of fixation construct. The present study aimed to investigate the influence of metaphyseal gap width, working length, and screw distribution on the stability of the fixation construct.

Pulmonary surfactant (PS) is one of the main treatment for neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). Budesonide has recently been studied as an additional treatment in such cases, but there is limited evidence supporting this. This study was implemented to determine the efficacy of PS combined with budesonide in premature infants.

Lower extremity arteriovenous (AV) access serves as a crucial alternative for hemodialysis when upper extremity options are no longer viable. While there are numerous reports on functional patency, limited information exists regarding complications related to venous insufficiency and postoperative quality of life. This study aims to assess the actual incidence of such complications and provide evidence-based insights for clinical decision-making.

The oral mucosa undergoes daily insults, and stem cells in the epithelial basal cell layer regenerate gingiva tissue to maintain oral health. The Iroquois Homeobox 1 (IRX1) protein is expressed in the stem cell niches in human/mouse oral epithelium and mesenchyme under homeostasis. We found that Irx1+/- heterozygous (Het) mice have delayed wound closure, delayed morphological changes of regenerated epithelium, and defective keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation during wound healing.

The model facilitated assessment of RGC loss in models of degeneration and of RGC detection in mixed neural/glial cultures. The tdTomato signal showed strong overlap with >98% cells immunolabeled with RGC markers RBPMS or BRN3A, consistent with the ubiquitous presence of the vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (VGUT2, SLC17A6) in all RGC subtypes.

Colic and diarrhea are common gastrointestinal (GI) disorders in captive Asian elephants, which can severely impact health and lead to mortality. Gut dysbiosis, indicated by alterations in gut microbiome composition, can be observed in individuals with GI disorders. However, changes in gut microbial profiles of elephants with GI disorders have never been investigated.

Objective: Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers account for one-third of global cancer mortality, with nearly half being preventable. This study updates the global burden of GI cancers attributed to major risk factors: smoking, alcohol, and metabolic disturbances.
Methods: We utilized data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 to examine trends in death and age-standardized death rates related to GI cancers caused by smoking, alcohol, high body mass index (BMI), and high fasting blood glucose (FBG) from 2000 to 2021.

Background: Reduced forced vital capacity (FVC) is associated with morbidity and mortality in individuals with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is often prescribed for the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), and chronic respiratory insufficiency. Despite the common practice of initiating NIV later in the progression of DMD, the factors influencing FVC subsequent to the commencement of NIV remain unclear.
