Many bacteria use quorum sensing (QS), a bacterial communication system based on the diffusion and perception of small signaling molecules, to synchronize their behavior in a cell-density dependent manner. QS regulates the expression of many genes associated with virulence factor production and biofilm formation. This latter is known to be involved in antibiotic and phage resistance mechanisms.

Electronic address:

Background: Due to its multisystemic nature, scleroderma is considered a relative contraindication to lung transplantation at many centers. However, recent studies suggest similar post-transplant outcomes in patients with scleroderma compared to those with other causes of interstitial lung disease (ILD). Furthermore, it remains unknown whether scleroderma-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) influences post-transplant outcomes.

The presence of the giant virus of amoeba Marseillevirus has been identified at many different sites on the human body, including in the bloodstream of asymptomatic subjects, in the lymph nodes of a child with adenitis, in one adult with Hodgkin's disease, and in the pharynx of an adult. A high seroprevalence of the Marseillevirus has been recorded in the general population. Whether Marseillevirus can disseminate and persist within a mammal after entry remains unproven.

There are few prospective studies available on the development of delayed symptoms following challenge tests with methacholine (MCT) at the currently recommended doses. The objective of this study was to describe the nature and frequency of respiratory symptoms suggestive of bronchospasm developing within 24hours after a MCT. The study was offered to adult patients who underwent MCT seen consecutively between June and October 2015.

Purpose: The management of non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTEACS) remains an issue for mobidity, mortality, and an economic stake. The first aim of the study was to evaluate the additional value of the GRACE score for the compliance with the recommended times to coronary angiography in an hospital without interventional cardiology. We also analysed the in-hospital and 6-month mortality and the predictive factors of compliance for the coronarography delays.

Adipose tissues were shown to host which is persisting inside mature adipocytes. It remains unknown whether this holds true for , a rare representative of the complex responsible for lymphatic and pulmonary tuberculosis. Here, we infected primary murine white and brown pre-adipocytes and murine 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes and mature adipocytes with and as a positive control.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to evaluate a fast method for determining if lung tissue is cancerous or not using a device called the Microflex LTTM MALDI-TOF analyzer.
  • The method involved preparing fresh samples quickly and analyzing them, which resulted in a high accuracy rate (92.1% sensitivity and 97.1% specificity) for distinguishing between cancerous and non-cancerous tissues.
  • The findings suggest that this rapid analysis technique could be beneficial for real-time evaluations in surgery, especially for cases with uncertain preoperative diagnoses, and should be considered alongside traditional frozen-biopsy methods.

Infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) represents a major public health concern worldwide. Recent therapeutic advances have been considerable, HCV genotype continuing to guide therapeutic management. Since 2008, HCV genotyping in our clinical microbiology laboratory at university hospitals of Marseille, Southeastern France, has been based on NS3 protease gene population sequencing, to allow concurrent HCV genotype and protease inhibitor (PI) genotypic resistance determinations.

Background: Because of its location, the popliteal artery is exposed to important biomechanical constraints, inducing a specific risk of thrombosis of stents, little studied in the literature. The objective of this monocentric retrospective study was to evaluate the patency of stents implanted in the popliteal artery to treat atheromatous lesions and the risk factors predisposing to thrombosis.

Methods: Between January 2009 and July 2013, all the patients receiving stents for a residual stenosis or a complication of angioplasty in the popliteal artery or the distal anastomosis of a femoropopliteal bypass were included retrospectively and in an intention to treat.

Recently, tissue-based methods for proteomic analysis have been used in clinical research and appear reliable for digestive, brain, lymphomatous, and lung cancers classification. However simple, tissue-based methods that couple signal analysis to tissue imaging are time consuming. To assess the reliability of a method involving rapid tissue preparation and analysis to discriminate cancerous from non-cancerous tissues, we tested 141 lung cancer/non-tumor pairs and 8 unique lung cancer samples among the stored frozen samples of 138 patients operated on during 2012.
