Introduction: The use of high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) is a simple method that can reduce intubation in patients with hypoxemic acute respiratory failure (ARF). Early and prolonged prone position has demonstrated benefits on mortality in mechanically ventilated patients and on intubation in awake patients with ARF. However, strategies to achieve adherence to awake prone positioning (APP) have not been previously described.

The development of myopia is influenced by multiple environmental and genetic factors. A third component, epigenetics, may shed light on some of the relationships between environmental and genetic factors. Epigenetics is defined as the study of modulations of gene activity that can be transmitted over cell divisions without involving mutation of the DNA sequence.

Background: Haploidentical (haplo-) donors and cord-blood (CB) stem cells provide alternative transplant options in patients lacking an HLA-matched donor. In case of relapse or graft failure after a first alternative allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), a second alternative HSCT (HSCT2) is rarely considered due to a high risk of toxicity.
Methods: A retrospective French multicentre study was performed, including patients with hematologic malignancies who underwent two consecutive HSCT from alternative donors.

Purpose: There are few data on maternal and neonatal morbidities associated with shoulder dystocia (SD), depending on the use of fetal manipulation (FM). A prior 5-year study was conducted in our center in 2012 for this purpose. Our objective was to compare severe maternal and neonatal morbidities according to FM execution in a larger cohort.

To evaluate the usefulness of computed tomography (CT) texture descriptors integrated with machine-learning (ML) models in the identification of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and for the first time papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) tumor nuclear grades [World Health Organization (WHO)/International Society of Urologic Pathologists (ISUP) 1, 2, 3, and 4]. A total of 143 ccRCC and 21 pRCC patients were analyzed in this study. Texture features were extracted from late arterial phase CT images.

Purpose: The purpose of our study was to investigate the impact of HPV status in oncologic outcomes in patients with T1-2 oropharyngeal SCC associated with bulky N3 nodes, and to determine progression prognosis factors aiming to define the best therapeutic strategies for these patients.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective study included patients with T1-2 oropharyngeal SCC with N3 nodes treated between 2010 and 2015 in 8 French comprehensive cancer centers. HPV status was determined with P16 hyperexpression in immunohistochemistry.

Background: First-degree relatives (FDRs, defined as parents, children, and siblings) of melanoma patients are at a two-to-fivefold increased risk of developing melanoma themselves. FDRs are advised to perform self-skin examination (SSE) and annual medical total cutaneous examination (TCE) performed either by a dermatologist or a general practitioner, and to change their sun-related behavior. This advice is given orally to melanoma patients who are asked to relay the information to their FDRs.

Despite therapeutic advances and improved patient outcomes in recent years, multiple myeloma (MM) remains a mostly incurable hematologic malignancy. Patients with relapsed/refractory MM (RRMM), especially those with triple-class-refractory disease or poor-prognostic features, have substantially unmet needs for new therapies with novel mechanisms of action. Melphalan flufenamide (melflufen) is the first alkylating peptide-drug conjugate that targets aminopeptidases to show efficacy and manageable safety, in combination with dexamethasone, in patients with RRMM who had received at least 4 prior lines of therapy, including at least 1 immunomodulatory drug, at least 1 proteasome inhibitor and at least 1 anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody, and received accelerated approval by the U.

Purpose: In the phase II ELOQUENT-3 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02654132), elotuzumab combined with pomalidomide/dexamethasone (EPd) significantly improved progression-free survival (PFS) versus pomalidomide/dexamethasone (Pd) in patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) previously treated with lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor (PI). Here, we present the final overall survival (OS) results.

: The present study aimed to assess the potential benefit of the observation of rehabilitation-related point-light display in addition to a conventional 3-week rehabilitation program, the objective being to improve functional capacity in patients having undergone total knee arthroplasty. : Patients randomized in the control group had conventional rehabilitation treatment with two sessions per day 5 days a week of physical therapy (90 min), whereas patients in the experimental group had a program of conventional rehabilitation combined with a point-light display observation two times per day (5 min) and 3 days a week. : The patients of both groups had improved their performances by the end of the program, and the pre- and post-test improvement were superior for the experimental group over the control group concerning the total WOMAC score ( = 0.

This study assesses the efficacy of Geriatric Assessment (GA)-driven interventions and follow-up on six-month mortality, functional, and nutritional status in older patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). HNC patients aged 65 years or over were included between November 2013 and September 2018 by 15 Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and maxillofacial surgery departments at 13 centers in France. The study was of an open-label, multicenter, randomized, controlled, and parallel-group design, with independent outcome assessments.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is associated with inflammation and tissue remodeling including myofibroblasts differentiation and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition mediated by TGF-β1 and IL-4. Oncostatin M (OSM) is a cytokine involved in fibrotic processes in other cellular subtypes. We investigated the mechanisms of action of OSM in the fibrosis process associated with CRSwNP.

Background: Natalizumab and fingolimod are used as high-efficacy treatments in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Several observational studies comparing these two drugs have shown variable results, using different methods to control treatment indication bias and manage censoring. The objective of this empirical study was to elucidate the impact of methods of causal inference on the results of comparative effectiveness studies.

Human Anelloviridae is a highly prevalent viral family, including three main genera—Alphatorquevirus (Torque teno virus, TTV), Betatorquevirus (Torque teno mini virus, TTMV), and Gammatorquevirus (Torque teno midi virus, TTMDV). To date, the characterization of Anelloviridae in the respiratory tract of children with acute respiratory infection (ARI) has been poorly reported and mainly focused on TTV. We performed a metagenomic analysis of eight respiratory samples collected from children with an ARI of unknown etiology (eight samples tested negative with a multiplex PCR assay, out of the 39 samples initially selected based on negative routine diagnostic testing).

The decision of extubation is difficult in ICUs because in case of reintubation mortality is particularly high. High-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC) and noninvasive ventilation (NIV) are two respiratory supports that help to improve oxygenation, to decrease work of breathing and to decrease the risk of reintubation in selected patients. In the ICU, HFNC seems effective in patient with mild hypoxemia at time of extubation (risk of reintubation<10%) while prophylactic NIV is particularly effective in patients at high-risk of extubation failure (risk of reintubation>20%).

Barbiturates are proposed as a second/third line treatment for intracranial hypertension in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients, but the literature remains uncertain regarding their benefit/risk balance. We aimed to evaluate the impact of barbiturates therapy in TBI patients with early intracranial hypertension on the intensive care unit (ICU) survival, the occurrence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), and the patient's functional status at three months. We used the French AtlanREA prospective cohort of trauma patients.
