Background: Factors leading to severe COVID-19 remain partially known. The impact of radiofrequency thermocoagulation on brain connectivity in drug-resistant epilepsy: Insights from stereo-electroencephalography and cortico-cortical evoked potentials.

Objective: To investigate whether local lesions created by stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG)-guided radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFTC) affect distant brain connectivity and excitability in patients with focal, drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE).

Methods: Ten patients with focal DRE underwent SEEG implantation and subsequently 1 Hz bipolar repetitive electrical stimulation (RES) for 30 s before and after RFTC. Root mean square (RMS) of cortico-cortical evoked potentials (CCEPs) was calculated for 15 ms to 300 ms post-stimulation with baseline correction.

Aims: Thermogenic adipocytes are able to dissipate energy as heat from lipids and carbohydrates through enhanced uncoupled respiration, due to UCP1 activity. PPAR family of transcription factors plays an important role in adipocyte biology. Background: Aarskog-Scott syndrome (AAS) is a rare condition with multiple congenital anomalies, caused by hemizygote variants in the gene. Its description was based mostly on old case reports, in whom a molecular diagnosis was not always available, or on small series. The aim of this study was to better delineate the phenotype and the natural history of AAS and to provide clues for the diagnosis and the management of the patients.

Research has shown that heightened emotionality often precedes psychotic experiences. Understanding how individuals cope with these emotions is crucial for psychosis. Methods: Epidemiological and clinical data on mold-positive blood cultures from 2012 to 2022 were obtained from the RESSIF database.

Trends in the epidemiology of intravascular device-associated bacteremia among French hematology patients: insights from the SPIADI prospective multicenter study, 2020-2024.

Hematology patients require central venous catheters for cancer treatment and nutrition, which increases their risk of intravascular device-associated bacteremia. In the absence of recent data, we investigated intravascular device-associated bacteremia in this specific context. A three-month surveillance was conducted annually in 27 hematology wards, using a protocol derived from the HAI-Net ICU ECDC protocol (2020-2024).

Prevalence rate of high-grade cytological lesions of the cervix in women aged under 25 years in French Guiana.

Introduction: The incidence of cervical cancer in French Guiana is among the highest worldwide. It ranks 5th among all cancers and is the 2nd most common cancer in women after breast cancer. The primary objective of this study was to establish the proportion of high-grade cytological lesions of the cervix in women under 25 years of age who underwent a cervico-uterine smear (CUS) in French Guiana over a 10-year period.

Clinical and Electrophysiological Characteristics of 23 French Patients With Neurolymphomatosis.

Introduction/aims: Neurolymphomatosis is a hematological condition defined by the direct infiltration of malignant lymphomatous cells into the peripheral nervous system. Since nerve conduction studies may disclose demyelinating features, clinicians may misdiagnose neurolymphomatosis as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). This study aimed to determine whether patients with neurolymphomatosis met the 2021 revised criteria for CIDP.

Introduction: Antipsychotic prescriptions are frequent in nursing homes due to the challenging management of symptoms associated with Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. This study aimed to assess the association between Health-related Quality Of Life (HrQOL) and antipsychotic use in nursing homes.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of the KASEHPAD (Karukera Study of Ageing in Nursing Homes) study conducted in six nursing homes in Guadeloupe and Martinique (French West Indies).

Infections in Kidney Transplant Recipients: Perspectives in French Caribbean.

Few studies have focused on the infectious complications in kidney transplant recipients in tropical regions, particularly in the Caribbean. The primary objective of this study was to determine the incidence of bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections in kidney transplant recipients in the French Caribbean and French Guiana. We included all patients who received a kidney transplant at the University Hospital of Guadeloupe between January 2014 and October 2016, with post-transplant follow-up in the French Caribbean.

Evaluation of rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease in patients treated with JAK inhibitors: a MAJIK-SFR cohort study.

Objective: To examine the course of interstitial lung disease associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA-ILD) in France on treatment with Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) using the MAJIK-SFR registry.

Methods: Prospective national multicentre observational study identifying patients with RA-ILD from the MAJIK-SFR registry. Pulmonary assessment data were collected at JAKi initiation and follow-up visits (6 months, 12 months and a median of 21 months postinclusion), including chest high-resolution CT (HRCT), pulmonary function tests (forced vital capacity (FVC) and diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO)), acute exacerbations of ILD, respiratory infections and lung cancers.

Hypereosinophilia and Hypereosinophilic Syndromes: First Findings From a Nationwide Multicenter Cohort.

Background: Hypereosinophilic syndromes (HES) are a heterogenous group of eosinophilic disorders. To date, only retrospective studies of limited sample-size and/or follow-up duration are available.

Methods: The COHESion study is a national prospective multicenter multidisciplinary cohort recruiting both adults or children with the spectrum of eosinophilic disorders (including reactive HE/HES [HE/HES-R], idiopathic HES [HES-I], lymphocytic HES [HES-L], neoplastic HE/HES [HE/HES-N], HE of unknown significance [HE-US], as well as IgG4-related disease [IgG4RD] or ANCA-negative eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis [EGPA] overlaps).

Covered Stent Correction for Sinus Venosus Atrial Septal Defects, an Emerging Alternative to Surgical Repair: Results of an International Registry.

Background: Covered stent correction for a sinus venosus atrial septal defect (SVASD) was first performed in 2009. This innovative approach was initially viewed as experimental and was reserved for highly selected patients with unusual anatomic variants. In 2016, increasing numbers of procedures began to be performed, and in several centers, it is now offered as a standard of care option alongside surgical repair.

Malaria remains a significant public health concern in Madagascar. The WHO recommends using parasitological methods to confirm Plasmodium infection before treatment. This study evaluated the performance of two rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), Bioline™ Malaria Ag Pf/Pan (Abbott Point of Care, Princeton, NJ) and Bioline™ Malaria Ag Pf/Pv (Abbott Point of Care, Princeton, NJ), compared with microscopy and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) as reference methods.

First Aid and Basic Life Support Training in the Wilderness.

Introduction: French Guiana is a French territory in South America covered by 90% of tropical forest. Despite regular first aid standards training, some of the workers in isolated areas remain untrained in common problems they may encounter. We present here the knowledge assessment of these workers concerning first aid and a new training program.
