Objectives: The UHSA (UHSA) are French psychiatric units for inmates which admit detainees suffering from a psychiatric disorder requiring full-time hospital care. Non-psychiatric pathologies are overrepresented in patients with psychiatric disorders but also in detainees. As a result, patients hospitalized in UHSA are largely exposed to non-psychiatric conditions, and exploring the organization of general medical care for these patients appears very relevant.

Extensive midface and orbital reconstruction is challenging, especially in a pediatric population. A 13-year-old patient was diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia of the midface, which required complete resection of the zygomatic bone and orbital floor. The authors present a complete midface and orbital reconstruction, using a patient-specific autologous bone graft, in a growing pediatric patient.

Obinutuzumab is a type II anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody that enhances antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity better than rituximab. Given promising results with lenalidomide and rituximab, this phase 1b study assessed the safety and efficacy of lenalidomide combined with obinutuzumab (GALEN). Patients age ≥18 years with relapsed or refractory (R/R) follicular lymphoma (FL) after rituximab-containing therapy received escalating doses (10 [n = 7], 15 [n = 3], 20 [n = 6], and 25 mg [n = 3]) of daily oral lenalidomide on days 1 to 21 of cycle 1 and on days 2 to 22 of cycles 2 to 6 (28-day cycles).

Objectives: Recent advances have led to the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) alone or with fusion to transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) images for guiding biopsy of the prostate. Our group sought to develop consensus recommendations regarding MRI-guided prostate biopsy based on currently available literature and expert opinion.

Methods: The published literature on the subject of MRI-guided prostate biopsy was reviewed using standard search terms and synthesized and analyzed by four different subgroups from among the authors.

Background: Single-agent ibrutinib has shown substantial activity in patients with relapsed Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, a rare form of B-cell lymphoma. We evaluated the effect of adding ibrutinib to rituximab in patients with this disease, both in those who had not received previous treatment and in those with disease recurrence.

Methods: We randomly assigned 150 symptomatic patients to receive ibrutinib plus rituximab or placebo plus rituximab.

We report for the first time the anesthetic management of 2 sisters suffering from neonatal ichthyosis and sclerosing cholangitis syndrome. They both presented with neonatal cholestatic jaundice and ichthyosis. The first was admitted for orthotopic liver transplantation at the age of 1 year, and the second patient underwent open pyeloplasty for a pyeloureteric junction syndrome at the age of 4 years.

Background Context: Patients with large annular defects after lumbar discectomy for disc herniation are at high risk of symptomatic recurrence and reoperation.

Purpose: The present study aimed to determine whether a bone-anchored annular closure device, in addition to lumbar microdiscectomy, resulted in lower reherniation and reoperation rates plus increased overall success compared with lumbar microdiscectomy alone.

Design: This is a multicenter, randomized superiority study.

PD-1 blockade is an effective therapy in relapsed/refractory (R/R) classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (cHL) who have relapsed after or are ineligible for autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Although single-agent anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibodies (mAb's) are associated with high response rates and durable remissions, available results to date suggest that a large majority of patients will eventually progress on therapy. Many of these patients are potential candidates for allogeneic HCT (allo-HCT) after receiving anti-PD-1 mAb's, and allo-HCT remains for now the only treatment with demonstrated curative potential in this setting.

Recurrent F8 and F9 gene variants result from a founder effect in two large French haemophilia cohorts.

Centre de Biologie Pathologie Est, Service d'Hématologie Biologique, Groupe Hospitalier Est, Hospices Civils de Lyon, Bron, France.

Introduction: Haemophilia A (HA) and haemophilia B (HB) are X-linked recessive diseases, caused by a large number of pathogenic variants in the F8 and F9 genes. With the exception of introns 22 and 1 inversions which are frequent in severe HA cases, about 2000 unique variants in F8 and 1000 in F9 have been described in databases and their recurrence remains limited.

Aim And Methods: During routine analysis, we identified two recurrent missense variants, the F8 gene c.

Article Synopsis
  • Paraquat is a highly toxic herbicide linked to severe health risks and was banned in the EU in 2007.
  • A study analyzing 62 cases of paraquat poisoning in French Guiana from 2008 to 2015 found a poisoning incidence of 3.8 per 100,000 people, with most cases resulting from self-poisoning.
  • The study revealed that adults experienced higher mortality rates and ingested larger amounts compared to children, highlighting the critical importance of immediate medical intervention after exposure.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) and right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH) affect 16-25% of premature infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), contributing significantly to perinatal morbidity and mortality. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA ω-3) can improve vascular remodeling, angiogenesis, and inflammation under pathophysiological conditions. However, the effects of PUFA ω-3 supplementation in BPD-associated PH are unknown.

Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome (WSS) is a rare syndromic condition in which intellectual disability (ID) is associated with hypertrichosis cubiti, short stature, and characteristic facies. Following the identification of the causative gene (KMT2A) in 2012, only 31 cases of WSS have been described precisely in the literature. We report on 33 French individuals with a KMT2A mutation confirmed by targeted gene sequencing, high-throughput sequencing or exome sequencing.

Background: Etoposide phosphate (EP; single injection, 60 mg/kg) followed by total body irradiation (TBI) at 12 Gy has been used as an allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) conditioning regimen for children since 2010. In our institution, EP has been suspected of leading to acute nephrotoxicity. The aim of this study was to assess the potential renal toxicity of EP in this context.

Objective: Ketoconazole (KTZ) is one of few available treatments for Cushing's syndrome (CS). Although KTZ has been associated with severe hepatotoxicity, little information is available about hepatic safety in CS. The aim of this study was to document changes in liver function in patients with CS treated with KTZ.
