Background: Social deprivation could act as a barrier to peritoneal dialysis (PD). The objective of this study was to assess the association between social deprivation estimated by the European deprivation index (EDI) and PD uptake and to explore the potential mediators of this association.

Methods: From the Renal Epidemiology and Information Network registry, patients who started dialysis in 2017 were included.

Identifying Clinical Phenotypes in Moderate to Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Related to COVID-19: The COVADIS Study.

Different phenotypes have been identified in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Existence of several phenotypes in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) related acute respiratory distress syndrome is unknown. We sought to identify different phenotypes of patients with moderate to severe ARDS related to COVID-19.

Acute renal infarction: long-term renal outcome and prognostic factors.

Introduction: Acute renal infarction is a rare occurence, whose  prognosis and long-term outcomes remain poorly studied. This study evaluated whether clinical and radiological features at diagnosis can be associated with the long-term outcomes (blood pressure, kidney function and mortality).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the demographic, clinical, biological and radiological data of patients with acute renal infarction hospitalized at Rennes University Hospital between 1997 and 2017 (n = 94).

Static compliance of the respiratory system in COVID-19 related ARDS: an international multicenter study.

Background: Controversies exist on the nature of COVID-19 related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in particular on the static compliance of the respiratory system (Crs). We aimed to analyze the association of Crs with outcome in COVID-19-associated ARDS, to ascertain its determinants and to describe its evolution at day-14.

Methods: In this observational multicenter cohort of patients with moderate to severe Covid-19 ARDS, Crs was measured at day-1 and day-14.

Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing is an important tool for diagnosing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, performance concerns have emerged recently, notably regarding sensitivity. We hypothesized that the clinical, biological, and radiological characteristics of patients with a false-negative first RT-PCR test and a final diagnosis of COVID-19 might differ from those of patients with a positive first RT-PCR test.

Background: Limited data are available regarding antiviral therapy efficacy in most severe patients under mechanical ventilation for Covid-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Methods: Comparison of antiviral strategies (none, hydroxychloroquine (OHQ), lopinavir/ritonavir (L/R), others (combination or remdesivir) in an observational multicentre cohort of patients with moderate-to-severe Covid-19 ARDS. The primary endpoint was the number of day 28 ventilator-free days (VFD).

OHCA (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest) and CAHP (Cardiac Arrest Hospital Prognosis) scores to predict outcome after in-hospital cardiac arrest: Insight from a multicentric registry.

Aim: We assessed the ability of the Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) and the Cardiac Arrest Hospital Prognosis (CAHP) scores to predict neurological outcome following in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA).

Methods: Retrospective review of a seven-year French multicentric database including ten intensive care units. Primary endpoint was the outcome at hospital discharge using the Cerebral Performance Category score (CPC) in all IHCA patients.

Factors Associated With Pulmonary Embolism Among Coronavirus Disease 2019 Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: A Multicenter Study Among 375 Patients.

Risk factors associated with pulmonary embolism in coronavirus disease 2019 acute respiratory distress syndrome patients deserve to be better known. We therefore performed a post hoc analysis from the COronaVirus-Associated DIsease Study (COVADIS) project, a multicenter observational study gathering 21 ICUs from France ( = 12) and Belgium ( = 9). Three-hundred seventy-five consecutive patients with moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome and positive coronavirus disease 2019 were included in the study.

The CAHP (cardiac arrest hospital prognosis) score: A tool for risk stratification after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in elderly patients.

Background: Older age is associated with worse outcome after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Therefore, we tested the performance of CAHP score, to predict neurological outcome in elderly OHCA patients and to select patients most likely to benefit from coronary angiogram (CAG).

Association between hydroxocobalamin administration and acute kidney injury after smoke inhalation: a multicenter retrospective study.

Background: The use of hydroxocobalamin has long been advocated for treating suspected cyanide poisoning after smoke inhalation. Intravenous hydroxocobalamin has however been shown to cause oxalate nephropathy in a single-center study. The impact of hydroxocobalamin on the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) and survival after smoke inhalation in a multicenter setting remains unexplored.

Characteristics of prescription in 29 Level 3 Neonatal Wards over a 2-year period (2017-2018). An inventory for future research.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study is to determine the current level of patient medication exposure in Level 3 Neonatal Wards (L3NW). The secondary objective is to evaluate in the first month of life the rate of medication prescription not cited in the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC). A database containing all the medication prescriptions is collected as part of a prescription benchmarking program in the L3NW.

Parental management of children's fever: Assessment of knowledge and use of health record information.

Introduction: To assess parents' knowledge regarding how to deal with children's fever in comparison to the updated recommendations published in 2016 by the HAS and to collect their views on the fever advice card of the 2006 health record to offer suggestions for possible improvements in order to disseminate the message.

Methods: Observational, descriptive, quantitative national study conducted with an online questionnaire among adult parents with children born between 2006 and 2017 who had a French health record.

Results: A total of 3295 parents were included from 03/12/2017 to 04/02/2018.

Adaptation of CytoProcessor for cervical cancer screening of challenging slides.

Background: Current automated cervical cytology screening systems require purchase of a dedicated preparation machine and use of a specific staining protocol. CytoProcessor (DATEXIM, Caen, France) is a new automated system, designed to integrate seamlessly into the laboratory's existing workflow. We previously demonstrated the superior performance of CytoProcessor for diagnosis of ThinPrep slides compared to the ThinPrep Imaging System (HOLOGIC, Marlborough, MA).

[Disseminated tuberculosis revealed by obstructive and prerenal acute kidney failure].

A 56-year-old Philippine seaman without any medical history presented an obstructive and prerenal acute kidney failure near the coasts of Normandy. He was hospitalized in intensive care units because of the seriousness of kidney failure and because of impaired consciousness. Purpose: To analyze trends in second primary cancer (SPC) incidence by using a case-mix approach to standardize on first cancer site distribution.

Methods: Cases registered by 13 French cancer registries between 1989 and 2010 and followed-up until June 2013 were included. The person-year approach was used to compute standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of metachronous SPC.

Physiological predictors of respiratory and cough assistance needs after extubation.

Background: Identifying patients at high risk of post-extubation acute respiratory failure requiring respiratory or mechanical cough assistance remains challenging. Here, our primary aim was to evaluate the accuracy of easily collected parameters obtained before or just after extubation in predicting the risk of post-extubation acute respiratory failure requiring, at best, noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) and/or mechanical cough assistance and, at worst, reintubation after extubation.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter prospective, open-label, observational study from April 2012 through April 2015.

Endovascular cooling versus standard femoral catheters and intravascular complications: A propensity-matched cohort study.

Endovascular cooling catheters are widely used to induce and maintain targeted temperature in the ICU. Objective: To present methodological issues that can arise with the assessment of the risk of a second primary cancer (SPC) occurring in the same site as a first cancer using registry data.

Material And Methods: Data from ten French cancer registries were used, including data for patients with a first prostate cancer (in males), breast cancer (in females), and colon, lung and kidney cancer (in both sexes) diagnosed between 1989 and 2004. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of SPC were computed by excluding, or not, the risk of an SPC at the same site.

[Evaluation of a modification of the nutrition policy on the frequency of extrauterine growth retardation in premature newborns between 2012 and 2014].
