The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of seletracetam (SEL), a potent modulator of synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A), in patients with photoparoxysmal EEG response (PPR) to intermittent photic stimulation (IPS) as proof-of-principle of efficacy in patients with epilepsy. In this multicenter, single-blind Phase II study, adults with photosensitive epilepsy, with/without concomitant antiseizure medication therapy, underwent IPS under 3 eye conditions (at eye closure, eyes closed and eyes open) after a single oral dose of placebo (day - 1) or SEL (day 1; 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 10, or 20 mg).

Introduction: Water vapor thermal therapy (WVTT; REZUM™; Boston, USA) offers symptom relief with reduced risks of complications in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) related to benign prostatic obstruction (BPO). WVTT therapy has been validated in the pivotal study in men with smaller prostates (< 80 cc). Yet, its feasibility for larger prostates (≥ 80 cc) remains underexplored.

Native joint septic arthritis (SA) is a severe, potentially life-threatening condition characterized by the invasion of synovial fluid and membrane by pathogens, most commonly bacteria. The rising frequency of intra-articular procedures such as joint aspirations and injections has led to increased concern regarding iatrogenic septic arthritis. This mini-review aims to summarize current understanding of the incidence, risk factors, bacterial etiology, and strategies for preventing SA associated with intra-articular procedures.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been a major advance in cancer management. However, we still lack prospective real-world data regarding their usage in people with HIV infection (PWH).
Methods: The ANRS CO24 OncoVIHAC study (NCT03354936) is an ongoing prospective observational cohort study in France of PWH with cancer treated with ICI.

Heart rate variability (HRV) analysis provides an assessment of cardiac vagal tone and consequently global cardiac health as well as systemic condition. In systemic diseases such as cancer and during treatments that affect the whole body, like chemotherapy, the vagus nerve activity is low and deregulated. Some studies focus on using HRV to predict mortality in oncology.

Background: Current guidelines recommend using antifungals for selected patients with health care-associated intra-abdominal infection (HC-IAI), but this recommendation is based on a weak evidence. This study aimed to assess the association between early empirical use of antifungals and outcomes in intensive care unit (ICU) adult patients requiring re-intervention after abdominal surgery.
Methods: A retrospective, multicentre cohort study with overlap propensity score weighting was conducted in three ICUs located in three medical institutions in France.

Background: The impact of the most recent advances, including targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors, on early (3-month) mortality in lung cancer is unknown. The aims of this study were to evaluate the real-world rate of and risk factors for early mortality, as well as trends in early mortality over the last 20 years.
Materials And Methods: The KBP prospective observational multicenter studies have been conducted every 10 years since 2000.

In preterm infants, early nutrient intake during the first week of life often depends on parenteral nutrition. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of standardized parenteral nutrition using three-in-one double-chamber solutions (3-in-1 STD-PN) on early neonatal growth in a cohort of moderately preterm (MP) infants. This population-based, observational cohort study included preterm infants admitted to neonatal centers in the southeast regional perinatal network in France.

Epilepsy with eyelid myoclonia (EM) or Jeavons syndrome (JS) is an epileptic syndrome related to the spectrum of genetic generalized epilepsies (GGE). We report two untreated children on which EEGs were performed several hours after a generalized tonic-clonic seizure (GTCS). These showed a unilateral, nearly continuous posterior slowing.

Research Questions: Patients with severe pulmonary hypertension associated with chronic lung disease have a poor prognosis. Targeted pulmonary arterial hypertension therapies might improve exercise capacity and outcome, but there are no guidelines on treatments which are not recommended because of an unproven benefit, with discordant results from few studies in this context. The aim of our study was to evaluate targeted pulmonary arterial hypertension therapies for severe group 3 pulmonary hypertension patients.

Prematurity is becoming a real public health issue as more and more children are being born prematurely, alongside a higher prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders. Early intervention programs in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) correspond to these uni- or multi-sensorial solicitations aiming to prevent and detect complications in order to support the development of preterm infants. This article aims to distinguish sensory intervention programs according to the gradient of the type of solicitations, uni- or multi-modal, and according to the function of the person who performs these interventions.

Background: Despite evidence suggesting a higher risk of barotrauma during COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) compared to ARDS due to other causes, data are limited about possible associations with patient characteristics, ventilation strategy, and survival.
Methods: This prospective observational multicenter study included consecutive patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 ARDS requiring invasive mechanical ventilation and managed at any of 12 centers in France and Belgium between March and December 2020. The primary objective was to determine whether barotrauma was associated with ICU mortality (censored on day 90), and the secondary objective was to identify factors associated with barotrauma.
Belantamab mafodotin (BM) is an anti-BCMA antibody-drug conjugate (GSK2857916) that represents an alternative option in multiple myeloma. We sought to assess the efficacy and safety of BM in a real-world setting in patients who benefited from an early access program. We conducted an observational, retrospective, multicenter study.

Remote monitoring of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) has become an expansive priority in many European countries, with nurses playing a central role in it. In France, a national survey for paramedics was set up to assess the organization of remote monitoring in the different institutions and to determine the paramedical role. A self-administered questionnaire (supplementary material), developed and validated by the College of Paramedics in partnership with the Working Group of Pacing and Electrophysiology of the French Society of Cardiology (SFC).

Whereas the prognosis of adult patients with Philadelphia-negative acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) has greatly improved since the advent of pediatric-inspired regimens, the impact of initial central nervous system (CNS) involvement has not been formerly re-evaluated. We report here the outcome of patients with initial CNS involvement included in the pediatric-inspired prospective randomized GRAALL-2005 study. Between 2006 and 2014, 784 adult patients (aged 18-59 years) with newly diagnosed Philadelphia-negative ALL were included, of whom 55 (7%) had CNS involvement.

Objective: The 23 French Regional Pneumococcal Observatories (ORPs) analyzed antibiotic resistance and serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae strains isolated from invasive infections in France over a 12-year period.
Methods: Between 2009 and 2021, the ORPs analyzed 19,319 strains, including 1,965 in children and 17,354 in adults. Strains were assessed for their resistance to penicillin G, amoxicillin and cefotaxime.
