November 2018

Institut de Microbiologie, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Lille, Lille, France; Recherche Translationelle Relation Hôte-Pathogènes, Université de Lille, Lille, France. Electronic address:

Background: Preterm delivery during pregnancy (<37 weeks' gestation) is a leading cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Treating bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy can reduce poor outcomes, such as preterm birth. We aimed to investigate whether treatment of bacterial vaginosis decreases late miscarriages or spontaneous very preterm birth.

New intragenic rearrangements in non-Finnish mulibrey nanism.

Am J Med Genet A

October 2017

Médecine et Biologie de la Reproduction et Laboratoire de Cytogénétique, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire d'Amiens, Amiens, France.

Article Synopsis
  • Prenatal growth is influenced by genetic and environmental factors, with MULIBREY nanism being a rare genetic condition that causes significant growth failure but normal neurological development.
  • Three patients from two families in North France were misdiagnosed with Silver-Russell syndrome, leading to further investigation revealing shared novel mutations in the TRIM37 gene associated with MULIBREY nanism.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of considering genetic rearrangements in diagnosing non-Finnish MULIBREY nanism, as early detection can facilitate necessary cardiac monitoring due to related complications in affected patients.

Acute hyperventilation increases the central venous-to-arterial PCO difference in stable septic shock patients.

Ann Intensive Care

December 2017

Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, Service de Réanimation polyvalente, Centre Hospitalier du Dr. Schaffner, 99 route de La Bassée, 62307, Lens Cedex, France.

Background: To evaluate the effects of acute hyperventilation on the central venous-to-arterial carbon dioxide tension difference (∆PCO) in hemodynamically stable septic shock patients.

Methods: Eighteen mechanically ventilated septic shock patients were prospectively included in the study. We measured cardiac index (CI), ∆PCO, oxygen consumption (VO), central venous oxygen saturation (ScvO), and blood gas parameters, before and 30 min after an increase in alveolar ventilation (increased respiratory rate by 10 breaths/min).

Introduction: The Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy (MNGIE) disease is an extremely underrated syndrome beginning around the age of eighteen years. Because of its severity, this diagnosis should be considered when a patient presents an atypical anorexia nervosa. MNGIE disease is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner and related to mutations of the TYMP gene (ch22q13.

Hyperekplexia is a syndrome of readily provoked startle responses, alongside episodic and generalized hypertonia, that presents within the first month of life. Inhibitory glycine receptors are pentameric ligand-gated ion channels with a definitive and clinically well stratified linkage to hyperekplexia. Most hyperekplexia cases are caused by mutations in the α1 subunit of the human glycine receptor (hGlyR) gene (GLRA1).

Background: Among risk factors of prematurity, bacterial vaginosis (BV) could play an important role, but few studies took place in our country.

Aim: In a French population of women booking in a hospital maternity, to search a link between prematurity and BV in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Methods: A hospital cohort study was carried out between May 2006 and September 1(st), 2009.

[How should markers of smoking be used during pregnancy?].

J Gynecol Obstet Biol Reprod (Paris)

April 2005

Centre Hospitalier d'Arras, Maternité Georges-Pernin, 57, avenue Winston-Churchill, 62022 Arras Cedex.

Consultation or hospitalization for pregnancy, irrespective of the patient's motivation, is always an exceptional opportunity for coupling care for the smoking addiction with antenatal surveillance. In studies on markers of smoking addiction during pregnancy, the most used markers are expired carbon monoxide (CO) and urinary cotinine. Expired CO can be used to estimate the level of active or passive smoking and thus enable the mother to realize the risks for her baby and appreciate how easy it is to decrease these risks.

Background: Smoking during pregnancy is associated with reduced birthweight; this relation can be reversed by smoking cessation. Some but not all previous studies have shown that smoking reduction (measured as cigarettes/day or urinary cotinine) may also improve birthweight. The relationship between maternal and spouses' expired air carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations (EACO) on fetal growth has not yet been evaluated.
