Background: There is a lack of standardized assessment tools for poststroke aphasia in Brazil, particularly bedside screenings for early identification of patients with suspected language disorders. The Language Screening Test (LAST) is a valid and reliable method for screening hospitalized patients following a stroke. This tool was first developed in French and then translated and validated in other languages.

Background: There is a lack of real-life data regarding the frequency and predictive factors of hypoglycemia in older patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study aimed to determine the frequency and predictors of hypoglycemia in older patients with insulin-treated T2D.

Methods: This prospective multicenter study included 155 insulin-treated T2D patients aged 75 years and older with ≥2 self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) daily controls.

Long-term outcomes after severe acute kidney injury in critically ill patients: the SALTO study.

Background: The extent of the consequences of an episode of severe acute kidney injury (AKI) on long-term outcome of critically ill patients remain debated. We conducted a prospective follow-up of patients included in a large multicenter clinical trial of renal replacement therapy (RRT) initiation strategy during severe AKI (the Artificial Kidney Initiation in Kidney Injury, AKIKI) to investigate long-term survival, renal outcome and health related quality of life (HRQOL). We also assessed the influence of RRT initiation strategy on these outcomes.

Introduction: Bilateral choanal atresia (CA) is a rare congenital anomaly, that causes neonatal respiratory distress. No consensus exists regarding the most appropriate surgical approach in low-birth weight preterm infants.

Method: This study (KereFish) is part of a multi-national, multi-centre, randomised, controlled clinical investigation (Odin) with patients suffering from deep diabetic wounds, allowing peripheral artery disease as evaluated by an ankle brachial index equal or higher than 0.6.

Background: Iodine supplementation is indicated by the French National Authority for Health (HAS) and the World Health Organization (WHO) during pregnancy. This study investigates whether this supplementation is consistently prescribed in line with WHO recommendations in pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus.

Objectives: There is an increasing body of evidence suggesting a direct pathophysiological role of anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPA) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and immunological remission could be a target for treatment. However, data related to the ability of biologics to reduce ACPA titres are contradictory.We aimed to evaluate the changes in ACPA titres after treatment with different biologics in patients with RA.

Characteristics of circulating KSHV-infected viroblasts during active KSHV+ multicentric Castleman disease.

Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV)/human herpesvirus 8-associated multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) is a polyclonal B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder that mainly occurs in immunocompromised hosts. The diagnosis relies on lymph node biopsy demonstrating KSHV-infected cells located in the mantle zone with a marked interfollicular plasma cell infiltration. Infected cells are large cells positive for immunoglobulin M (IgM), λ light chain, and CD38, described initially as infected plasmablasts.

Juvenile Neuropsychiatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: Identification of Novel Central Neuroinflammation Biomarkers.

Introduction: Juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (j-SLE) is a rare chronic autoimmune disease affecting multiple organs. Ranging from minor features, such as headache or mild cognitive impairment, to serious and life-threatening presentations, j-neuropsychiatric SLE (j-NPSLE) is a therapeutic challenge. Thus, the diagnosis of NPSLE remains difficult, especially in pediatrics, with no specific biomarker of the disease yet validated.

BLNK mutation associated with T-cell LGL leukemia and autoimmune diseases: Case report in hematology.

We present the case of a female patient with a heterozygous somatic BLNK mutation, a T-cell LGL (large granular lymphocyte) leukemia, and multiple autoimmune diseases. Although this mutation seems uncommon especially in this kind of clinical observation, it could represent a new mechanism for autoimmune diseases associated with LGL leukemia. The patient developed several autoimmune diseases: pure red blood cell apalsia, thyroiditis, oophoritis, and alopecia areata.

Phase III Study of F-PSMA-1007 Versus F-Fluorocholine PET/CT for Localization of Prostate Cancer Biochemical Recurrence: A Prospective, Randomized, Crossover Multicenter Study.

The objective of this study was to compare F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT and F-fluorocholine PET/CT for the localization of prostate cancer (PCa) biochemical recurrence. This prospective, open-label, randomized, crossover multicenter study included PCa patients with prior definitive therapy and suspected PCa recurrence. All men underwent both F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT and F-fluorocholine PET/CT (102 received F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT first and 88 received F-fluorocholine PET/CT first).

Background: Accumulating evidence from clinical trials suggests that a lower (restrictive) hemoglobin threshold (<8 g/dL) for red blood cell (RBC) transfusion, compared with a higher (liberal) threshold (≥10 g/dL) is safe. However, in anemic patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), maintaining a higher hemoglobin level may increase oxygen delivery to vulnerable myocardium resulting in improved clinical outcomes. Conversely, RBC transfusion may result in increased blood viscosity, vascular inflammation, and reduction in available nitric oxide resulting in worse clinical outcomes.
