Background: There is a lack of standardized assessment tools for poststroke aphasia in Brazil, particularly bedside screenings for early identification of patients with suspected language disorders. The Language Screening Test (LAST) is a valid and reliable method for screening hospitalized patients following a stroke. This tool was first developed in French and then translated and validated in other languages.

Purpose: Baseline circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) is a potential prognostic marker in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients. However, few studies have compared ctDNA with the usual prognostic factors, and no ctDNA cut-off has been proposed for daily use in clinical practice.
Patients And Methods: Chemotherapy-naive patients with mCRC were prospectively included.

Introduction: Microcytic anemias (MA) have frequent or rare etiologies. New discoveries in understanding and treatment of microcytic anemias need to be reviewed.
Areas Covered: Microcytic anemias with a focus on the most frequent causes and on monogenic diseases that are relevant for understanding biocellular mechanisms of MA.

Objectives: Data on the efficacy of vancomycin catheter lock therapy (VLT) for conservative treatment of totally implantable venous access port-related infections (TIVAP-RI) due to CoNS are scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of VLT in the treatment of TIVAP-RI due to CoNS in cancer patients.
Methods: This prospective, observational, multicentre study included adults with cancer treated with VLT for a TIVAP-RI due to CoNS.

Background: There is a lack of real-life data regarding the frequency and predictive factors of hypoglycemia in older patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study aimed to determine the frequency and predictors of hypoglycemia in older patients with insulin-treated T2D.
Methods: This prospective multicenter study included 155 insulin-treated T2D patients aged 75 years and older with ≥2 self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) daily controls.

Background: The extent of the consequences of an episode of severe acute kidney injury (AKI) on long-term outcome of critically ill patients remain debated. We conducted a prospective follow-up of patients included in a large multicenter clinical trial of renal replacement therapy (RRT) initiation strategy during severe AKI (the Artificial Kidney Initiation in Kidney Injury, AKIKI) to investigate long-term survival, renal outcome and health related quality of life (HRQOL). We also assessed the influence of RRT initiation strategy on these outcomes.

Background: Cell and/or tissue-based wound care products have slowly advanced in the treatment of non-healing ulcers, however, few studies have evaluated the effectiveness of these devices in the management of severe diabetic foot ulcers.
Method: This study (KereFish) is part of a multi-national, multi-centre, randomised, controlled clinical investigation (Odin) with patients suffering from deep diabetic wounds, allowing peripheral artery disease as evaluated by an ankle brachial index equal or higher than 0.6.

Objectives: There is an increasing body of evidence suggesting a direct pathophysiological role of anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPA) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and immunological remission could be a target for treatment. However, data related to the ability of biologics to reduce ACPA titres are contradictory. We aimed to evaluate the changes in ACPA titres after treatment with different biologics in patients with RA.

Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV)/human herpesvirus 8-associated multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) is a polyclonal B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder that mainly occurs in immunocompromised hosts. The diagnosis relies on lymph node biopsy demonstrating KSHV-infected cells located in the mantle zone with a marked interfollicular plasma cell infiltration. Infected cells are large cells positive for immunoglobulin M (IgM), λ light chain, and CD38, described initially as infected plasmablasts.

Introduction: Juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (j-SLE) is a rare chronic autoimmune disease affecting multiple organs. Ranging from minor features, such as headache or mild cognitive impairment, to serious and life-threatening presentations, j-neuropsychiatric SLE (j-NPSLE) is a therapeutic challenge. Thus, the diagnosis of NPSLE remains difficult, especially in pediatrics, with no specific biomarker of the disease yet validated.

We present the case of a female patient with a heterozygous somatic BLNK mutation, a T-cell LGL (large granular lymphocyte) leukemia, and multiple autoimmune diseases. Although this mutation seems uncommon especially in this kind of clinical observation, it could represent a new mechanism for autoimmune diseases associated with LGL leukemia. The patient developed several autoimmune diseases: pure red blood cell apalsia, thyroiditis, oophoritis, and alopecia areata.

The objective of this study was to compare F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT and F-fluorocholine PET/CT for the localization of prostate cancer (PCa) biochemical recurrence. This prospective, open-label, randomized, crossover multicenter study included PCa patients with prior definitive therapy and suspected PCa recurrence. All men underwent both F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT and F-fluorocholine PET/CT (102 received F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT first and 88 received F-fluorocholine PET/CT first).

However, in anemic patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), maintaining a higher hemoglobin level may increase oxygen delivery to vulnerable myocardium resulting in improved clinical outcomes. Conversely, RBC transfusion may result in increased blood viscosity, vascular inflammation, and reduction in available nitric oxide resulting in worse clinical outcomes.

Background: Given the rapidly evolving pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020, authorities focused on the repurposing of available drugs to develop timely and cost-effective therapeutic strategies. Evidence suggested the potential utility of remdesivir in the framework of an early access program. REMDECO-19 is a multicenter national cohort study assessing the ability of remdesivir to improve the outcome of patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
