Guidelines on Standard and Therapeutic Diets for Adults in Hospitals by the French Association of Nutritionist Dieticians (AFDN) and the French Speaking Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (SFNCM).

Nutrients

July 2021

Unité Transversale de Nutrition et Unité d'Assistance Nutritionnelle, Service d'Endocrinologie Diabétologie et Nutrition, CHRU de Nancy, Rue du Morvan, 54500 Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy, France.

Aim: Hospital food provision is subject to multiple constraints (meal production, organization, health safety, environmental respect) which influence the meal tray offered to the patient. Multiple diets can add complexity and contribute to non-consumption of the meal. To avoid undernutrition, it appeared necessary to propose guidelines for foods and diets in hospitals.

Non-severe eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis: long-term outcomes after remission-induction trial.

Rheumatology (Oxford)

December 2019

National Referral Center for Rare Systemic Autoimmune Diseases, Hôpital Cochin, APHP, Université Paris Descartes, Paris, France.

Objective: In a previous controlled trial, 1-year adjunction of AZA to glucocorticoids (GC) for patients with non-severe, newly diagnosed eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) failed to lower remission failure, vasculitis relapse and isolated asthma/rhinosinus exacerbation rates, or cumulative GC use at month (M) 24. The aim of this study was to analyse longer-term outcomes to determine whether subsequent vasculitis relapse or isolated asthma/rhinosinus exacerbation (IARE) rates differed.

Methods: After M24, patients were followed prospectively, being treated based on physicians' best judgment.

With an increasing number of liver transplantation (LT) and an enhanced overall survival, LT recipients are more likely to be admitted in emergency departments of general hospitals. Yet, in LT recipients, common but also benign symptoms may reveal a LT-related (or not) severe condition. To improve management of LT recipients by emergency physicians and general surgeons and potentially improve long-term outcomes, a clinical review was performed.

Preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) prior to pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) has gained popularity as bridge management to resolve jaundice, but its role is being challenged as it is thought to increase morbidity. To clarify the current recommendations for PBD prior to PD, we reviewed the literature, including all relevant articles published in English up until December, 2015. There is increasing evidence that PBD causes bile infection, which is related to the morbidity of infectious complications.

Objective: In most patients with nonsevere systemic necrotizing vasculitides (SNVs), remission is achieved with glucocorticoids alone, but one-third experience a relapse within 2 years. This study was undertaken to determine whether the addition of azathioprine (AZA) to glucocorticoids could achieve a higher sustained remission rate of newly diagnosed nonsevere eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Churg-Strauss) (EGPA), microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), or polyarteritis nodosa (PAN).

Methods: All patients included in this double-blind trial received glucocorticoids, gradually tapered over 12 months, and were randomized to receive AZA or placebo for 12 months, with stratification according to SNV (EGPA or MPA/PAN).

[Chronic total occlusions: Is there a woman specificity?].

Ann Cardiol Angeiol (Paris)

December 2016

Centre hospitalier Simone-Veil, 14, rue de Saint-Prix, 95600 Eaubonne, France.

Many differences have been reported regarding gender in angioplasty procedures (PCI), but their potential influence on clinical outcomes after CTO PCI has not been elucidated. Aim of this paper is to analyse these potential differences starting from 2 clinical cases. The basic features found in the two clinical cases presented here, older age and presence of diabetes (that are more frequent in women), are in line with the differences identified in non-CTO studies on angioplasty.

Background: Splenic hydatidosis is a rare condition and is usually managed by total splenectomy, which is associated to various complications, including overwhelming post-splenectomy sepsis and thrombosis. Probably due to supposed technical difficulties, the partial splenectomy is rarely performed being often unknown to physicians, infectious disease specialists and surgeons.

Methods: Demographic, clinical and surgical data were collected of four consecutive patients undergoing partial (or hemi-) splenectomy using an original, recently improved technique as a treatment for polar splenic hydatid cyst.
