FOLFOX alone or combined with rilotumumab or panitumumab as first-line treatment for patients with advanced gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma (PRODIGE 17-ACCORD 20-MEGA): a randomised, open-label, three-arm phase II trial.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) pathways, which promote tumour growth and proliferation, are often deregulated in advanced gastroesophageal adenocarcinomas. We assessed whether adding panitumumab (an EGFR inhibitor) or rilotumumab (a HGF inhibitor) to first-line fluoropyrimidine-based and platinum-based chemotherapy (modified oxaliplatin, leucovorin and fluorouracil [mFOLFOX6]) benefits to patients with advanced gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma.

Patients And Methods: This phase II, open-label, randomised, three-arm study enrolled patients ≥18 years, with advanced gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0-1 and no known HER2 overexpression.

Anticancer Activity and Tolerance of Treatments Received Beyond Progression in Men Treated Upfront with Androgen Deprivation Therapy With or Without Docetaxel for Metastatic Castration-naïve Prostate Cancer in the GETUG-AFU 15 Phase 3 Trial.

Background: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) plus docetaxel is the standard of care in fit men with metastatic castration-naive prostate cancer (mCNPC) following results from GETUG-AFU 15, CHAARTED, and STAMPEDE. No data are available on the efficacy of treatments used for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) in men treated upfront with ADT plus docetaxel for mCNPC.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy and tolerance of subsequent treatments in patients treated upfront with chemo-hormonal therapy for mCNPC.

Androgen deprivation therapy plus docetaxel and estramustine versus androgen deprivation therapy alone for high-risk localised prostate cancer (GETUG 12): a phase 3 randomised controlled trial.

Background: Early risk-stratified chemotherapy is a standard treatment for breast, colorectal, and lung cancers, but not for high-risk localised prostate cancer. Combined docetaxel and estramustine improves survival in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer. We assessed the effects of combined docetaxel and estramustine on relapse in patients with high-risk localised prostate cancer.

[Combined approach of parotid lithiasis. A technical note].

Introduction: Sialendoscopy, extracorporeal lithotripsy and transoral removal are the usual treatments for parotid lithiasis. These techniques cannot treat all the patients. In fact, removal of lithiasis bigger than the ductal diameter and situated in the middle or posterior third of the duct may fail with such techniques.

Aneurysm sac shrinkage after endovascular repair: predictive factors and long-term follow-up.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the predictive factors of reduction in diameter ≥10 mm of the aneurysm sac after endovascular treatment and analyze evolution in these patients.

Methods: Between December 1997 and December 2008, all patients electively treated at our center for an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) were included in a prospective registry. We did a retrospective study between patients whose aneurysm was reduced by at least 10 mm in diameter on computed tomography scan during follow-up (Group 1) and the other patients who did not (Group 2).

Prognostic Factors for Survival in Noncastrate Metastatic Prostate Cancer: Validation of the Glass Model and Development of a Novel Simplified Prognostic Model.

Background: The Glass model developed in 2003 uses prognostic factors for noncastrate metastatic prostate cancer (NCMPC) to define subgroups with good, intermediate, and poor prognosis.

Objective: To validate NCMPC risk groups in a more recently diagnosed population and to develop a more sensitive prognostic model.

Design, Setting, And Participants: NCMPC patients were randomized to receive continuous androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with or without docetaxel in the GETUG-15 phase 3 trial.

[Bone graft reconstruction for posterior mandibular segment using the formwork technique].

Introduction: Pre-implant bone graft in posterior mandibular segments is difficult because of masticatory and lingual mechanical constraints, because of the limited bone vascularization, and because of the difficulty to cover it with the mucosa. The formwork technique is especially well adapted to this topography.

Patients' self-assessment versus investigators' evaluation in a phase III trial in non-castrate metastatic prostate cancer (GETUG-AFU 15).

Background: Toxicity, which is a key parameter in the evaluation of cancer treatments, can be underestimated by clinicians. We investigated differences between patients and physicians in reporting adverse events of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with or without docetaxel in a multicentre phase III trial in non-castrate metastatic prostate cancer.

Methods: The 385 patients included were invited to complete a 26-symptom questionnaire 3 and 6 months after the start of treatment, among which eighteen symptoms were also assessed by physicians, reported in medical records and graded using the Common Toxicity Criteria of the National Cancer Institute.

[Comparison between Polyglactin 910 (Vicryl®) versus irradiated Polyglactin 910 (rapid Vicryl®) for mucosal suture after wisdom teeth avulsion].

Introduction: Two different types of suture are used in our unit after wisdom tooth extraction, Polyglactin 910 [PGS] (Vicryl®, Ethicon) and rapid absorption irradiated Polyglactin 910 [PGI]. No objective comparative study was available so we decided to conduct a preliminary prospective study to check if there was any difference between these two types of suture.

Patients And Methods: Forty patients were included in our study, consecutively operated for impacted wisdom teeth by the same surgeons, between April and June 2010.

[Modelization of bone graft reconstruction for posterior mandibular segment using the Simplant® software].

Introduction: Pre-implant reconstruction techniques of edentulous molar mandibular ridges take into account the height and the width of the initial ridge, but not the initial geometry. The Simplant(®) software allows modeling these techniques by taking into account this geometry.

Technical Note: Four surgical techniques for crestal volume reconstruction (apposition, interposition, distraction, formwork) were used on seven hemi-mandibles and modeled with the Simplant(®) software.
