Implant-related infections may need suppressive antibiotic therapy (SAT). We describe a SAT strategy using dalbavancin with therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). This is a retrospective bicentric study of patients with implant-related infection who received dalbavancin SAT between January 2021 and September 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to estimate the prevalence of long COVID in adults in mainland France, exploring variations based on different definitions and individual characteristics.
  • A survey conducted in late 2022 found that out of 10,615 participants, 54.5% reported COVID-19 infection, with long COVID prevalence varying between 1.2% to 13.4% depending on the definition used, and 4.0% overall in the population.
  • The findings highlight that long COVID is a significant issue, with varying impacts on daily life, and suggest the need for more standardized definitions to enhance surveillance and research on this condition.

Objectives: We aimed to describe the efficacy and safety of dalbavancin in treatment of patients with diabetes-related foot osteomyelitis with bone culture confirmation.

Patients And Methods: Between January 2019 and December 2021, all consecutive patients receiving at least one 1500 mg dose of dalbavancin for diabetes-related foot osteomyelitis were included in a retrospective study. Remission was defined as absence of relapsing infection or need for surgery at the initial or a contiguous site during 6-month follow-up from the last dose of dalbavancin.

Background: Material conditions of lockdown and changes in regular functioning may have played a role on depressive manifestations. We aimed to examine the association between housing conditions and changes in professional activity and depression during the first COVID-19 outbreak in France.

Method: Participants of the CONSTANCES cohort were followed online.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to examine persistent symptoms in patients post-COVID-19 and whether they were linked more to SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to other conditions.
  • The research involved 25,910 participants from a French cohort who reported their symptoms during the pandemic and underwent serological testing to determine COVID-19 infection status.
  • Findings showed that those with confirmed COVID-19 (ECDC+/Sero+) had a significantly higher risk of persistent symptoms like loss of taste/smell and breathlessness, while some other symptoms, like abdominal pain, were less common in this group.

Microelimination or Not? The Changing Epidemiology of Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Hepatitis C Virus Coinfection in France 2012-2018.

Clin Infect Dis

November 2021

Department of Infectious Diseases, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Martinique, Fort de France, Université des Antilles EA4537, Fort de France, INSERM CIC1424, Fort-de-France, France.

Background: The arrival of highly effective, well-tolerated, direct-acting antiviral agents (DAA) led to a dramatic decrease in hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevalence. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-HCV-coinfected patients are deemed a priority population for HCV elimination, while a rise in recently acquired HCV infections in men who have sex with men (MSM) has been described. We describe the variations in HIV-HCV epidemiology in the French Dat'AIDS cohort.

Objectives: The aim was to describe the effectiveness of suppressive antibiotic treatment (SAT) in routine clinical practice when used in situations in which removal of a prosthetic implant is considered essential for the eradication of an infection, and it cannot be performed.

Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective and multicentre cohort study of prosthetic joint infection (PJI) cases managed with SAT. SAT was considered to have failed if a fistula appeared or persisted, if debridement was necessary, if the prosthesis was removed due to persistence of the infection or if uncontrolled symptoms were present.

Objective: High hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment uptake combined with effective direct-acting antiviral-based regimens resulted in a dramatic decline of HCV infection in French people living with HIV (PLWH). We assessed the yearly incidence of new HCV infection in PLWH enrolled in the large French Dat'AIDS cohort from 2012 to 2016 with a specific focus on MSM.

Methods: The incidence of new HCV infection was determined yearly in HCV-negative PLWH with serological follow-up during 2012-2016.

Background: HCV treatment uptake has drastically increased in HIV-HCV coinfected patients in France since direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment approval, resulting in HCV cure in 63% of all HIV-HCV patients by the end of 2015. We investigated the impact of scaling-up DAA on HCV prevalence in the whole HIV population and in various risk groups over the next 10 years in France using a transmission dynamic compartmental model.

Methods: The model was based on epidemiological data from the French Dat'AIDS cohort.

Objective: In France, indications for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention are based on individual-level risk factors for HIV infection. However, the risk of HIV infection may also depend on characteristics of sexual partnerships. Here we study how place-based selection of partners change transmission and the overall efficiency of PrEP.

We report on 11 cases of specific polysaccharide antibody deficiency (SPAD) revealed in adulthood by severe infections with encapsulated bacteria. Given that immunoglobulin replacement therapy can effectively prevent the recurrence of bacterial infections in this context, SPAD should be considered once other antibody deficiencies have been ruled out.
