Pneumococcal infections are a serious health issue associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This systematic review evaluated the efficacy, effectiveness, immunogenicity, and safety of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV)15 compared to other pneumococcal vaccines or no vaccination in children and adults. We identified 20 randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Durvalumab and tremelimumab in patients with advanced rare cancer: a multi-centre, non-blinded, open-label phase II basket trial.

Background: Dual inhibition of cytotoxic T-lymphocyte associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) has been shown to be an effective treatment strategy in many cancers. We sought to determine the objective response rate of combination durvalumab (D) plus tremelimumab (TM) in parallel cohorts of patients with carefully selected rare cancer types in which these agents had not previously been evaluated in phase II trials and for which there was clinical or biological rationale for dual immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy to be active.

Methods: We designed a multi-centre, non-blinded, open-label phase II basket trial with each of the following 8 rare cancers considered a separate phase II trial: salivary carcinoma, carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) with tumour infiltrating lymphocytes and/or expressing PD-L1, mucosal melanoma, acral melanoma, osteosarcoma, undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, clear cell carcinoma of the ovary (CCCO) or squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal (SCCA).

Background: Multiple Myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematological malignancy, characterized by the accumulation of monoclonal plasmocytes in the bone marrow. Despite advancements with proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulatory agents, and CD38-targeting antibodies, MM remains largely incurable due to resistant clones and frequent relapses. The success of the proteasome inhibitor bortezomib (BTZ) in MM treatment highlights the critical role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) in this disease.

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology and bacteriological trends of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) at Nantes University Hospital from 2013 to 2023.

Methods: Potential CPE carriers were prospectively detected, and their contacts were systematically screened for CPE digestive colonization. A retrospective study was conducted from 2013 to 2023 (on patient characteristics) and from 2016 to 2023 (on CPE characteristics).

CLEC12B regulates melanocyte immunity and homeostasis in the skin through the STAT1/IRF1 axis.

CLEC12B is a C-type lectin receptor involved in the inhibition of natural killers-mediated cytotoxicity. We have previously shown that CLEC12B is predominantly expressed on melanocytes, inhibits melanin production and pigmentation as well as proliferation of melanoma. To date, the role of CLEC12B in skin immunity is unknown.

Background: Antiplatelet drugs, such as clopidogrel, ticagrelor, prasugrel, and acetylsalicylic acid, may be associated with a risk of adverse events (AEs). Vanessa's Law was enacted to strengthen regulations to protect Canadians from drug-related side effects (with mandatory reporting of serious adverse events [SAEs]).

Purpose: Highly sensitized patients (HSPs) with kidney failure have limited access to kidney transplantation and poorer post-transplant outcomes. Prioritizing HSPs in kidney allocation systems and expanding the pool of deceased donors available to them has helped to reduce their wait times for transplant and enhanced post-transplant outcomes. The Canadian HSP Program was established by Canadian Blood Services in collaboration with provincial organ donation and transplantation programs throughout the country to increase transplant opportunities for transplant candidates needing very specific matches from deceased kidney donors.

Sensory preservation in reduction mammoplasty using the nipple-areola complex-carrying pedicle technique for gigantomastia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Historically, free nipple graft (FNG) has been preferred, prioritizing the nipple-areola complex (NAC) vascularity. Purpose: Although studies have evaluated benralizumab, a monoclonal IL-5 receptor α antibody in severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA), in real-world settings, additional evidence is needed to further characterize its effectiveness in specific patient populations. Our study aimed to evaluate asthma control over 56 weeks in patients treated with benralizumab in Swiss real-world settings.

Methods: We explored the distribution of PRS across European populations using genotype data from 94,072 females without breast cancer diagnosis, of European-ancestry from 21 countries participating in the Breast Cancer Association Consortium (BCAC) and 223,316 females without breast cancer diagnosis from the UK Biobank.

We describe for the first time the case of a woman presenting with Tatton-Brown-Rahman syndrome (TBRS) and multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN). She developed primary hyperparathyroidism at age 13, a pituitary cyst at age 14, adrenal tumor at age 21, and metastatic insulinoma at age 34. In addition, she showed intellectual disability, obesity, multiple lipomas, facial dysmorphia, hemihypertrophy and kyphoscoliosis.

Brentuximab vedotin (BV)-bendamustine (90 or 120 mg/m2 day 1 and 2) every 28 days is an effective treatment for relapsed/refractory Hodgkin lymphoma (R/R HL) but associated to high toxicity especially for elderly patients. New information published within the past 12 months on established doping agents as well as new potentially relevant substances are reviewed and discussed in the context of the World Anti-Doping Agency's 2024 Prohibited List.

Feasibility and safety of ultra-low volume ventilation (≤ 3 ml/kg) combined with extra corporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCOR) in acute respiratory failure patients.

Background: Ultra-protective ventilation is the combination of low airway pressures and tidal volume (Vt) combined with extra corporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCOR). A recent large study showed no benefit of ultra-protective ventilation compared to standard ventilation in ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) patients. However, the reduction in Vt failed to achieve the objective of less than or equal to 3 ml/kg predicted body weight (PBW).

Molecular profiles of blood from numerous species that differ in sensitivity to acute inflammation.

Vertebrates differ over 100,000-fold in responses to pro-inflammatory agonists such as bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), complicating use of animal models to study human sepsis or inflammatory disorders. We compared transcriptomes of resting and LPS-exposed blood from six LPS-sensitive species (rabbit, pig, sheep, cow, chimpanzee, human) and four LPS-resilient species (mice, rats, baboon, rhesus), as well as plasma proteomes and lipidomes. Unexpectedly, at baseline, sensitive species already had enhanced expression of LPS-responsive genes relative to resilient species.
