Treating disruptive disorder with emotional dysregulation (DDED) is a challenge in terms of difficulties, objectives and results. In addition to a multi-disciplinary approach involving child psychiatrists, nurses, psychomotricists and educators, the use of animal mediation (dogs) appears relevant. Eight standardized group sessions with eight children aged 6 to 10, assessed by means of a semi-directive interview and several psychometric tools (MDI-C, Kidscreen, parent attachment inventory, child/family star, family/child star, alexithymia questionnaire) revealed improvements in listening skills, empathy, adaptability, socialization, anger and depression management, temper tantrum frequency, school complaints and depressive symptoms.

Disruptive Emotional Dysregulation Disorder (DEDD) responds to an increase in diagnoses of clastic crises, reactive depression and bipolarity in children and adolescents. Emerging in the 1990s, EDD has become an issue for practitioners, parents and teachers alike, and has become an integral part of the landscape of paediatric and child psychiatric disorders. Its diagnostic complexity is accentuated by criteria that include persistent and disproportionate outbursts of anger, often confused with other pathologies, especially as diagnostic tools are few and far between.

Article Synopsis
  • - The beta-adrenergic signaling pathway is crucial in managing heart failure (HF), with beta-blockers (BBs) being the first-line treatment for patients with HF and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).
  • - In cases of severe acute heart failure (AHF), particularly those recovering from cardiogenic shock, starting BB therapy can be risky due to a lack of comprehensive data.
  • - An expert consensus has been developed to review existing studies on BB use in severe decompensated AHF and offers a practical algorithm for prescribing and monitoring BB therapy in critical conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • There has been a significant increase in the use of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) to treat symptomatic severe aortic stenosis, prompting the need for streamlined procedures in specialized Heart Valve Centres.
  • The 2022 European TAVI Pathway Survey collected input from 147 TAVI centres in 26 countries, revealing details about their procedural practices and patient management.
  • Findings indicate that while minimalist TAVI methods are widely adopted, many patients still experience longer hospital stays, suggesting room for improvement in discharge processes.

Electronic address:

Upon discharge from the ICU, most severe post-Covid-19 patients are considered out of danger and on the mend. A large proportion of these patients are able to go home, but some continue to be frail and suffer from the side effects of the disease and the past heavy hospitalization. Others do not have the necessary support at home.

There is a large heterogeneity among patients presenting with cardiogenic shock (CS). It is crucial to better apprehend this heterogeneity in order to adapt treatments and improve prognoses in these severe patients. Notably, the presence (or absence) of a pre-existing history of chronic heart failure (CHF) at time of CS onset may be a significant part of this heterogeneity, and data focusing on this aspect are lacking.

Apixaban and Valve Thrombosis After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: The ATLANTIS-4D-CT Randomized Clinical Trial Substudy.

JACC Cardiovasc Interv

September 2022

Sorbonne Université, ACTION Group, INSERM UMRS 1166, Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière (AP-HP), Institut de Cardiologie, Paris, France. Electronic address:

Background: Subclinical obstructive valve thrombosis after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is of uncertain frequency and clinical impact.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of apixaban vs standard of care on post-TAVR valve thrombosis detected by 4-dimensional (4D) computed tomography.

Methods: The randomized ATLANTIS (Anti-Thrombotic Strategy to Lower All Cardiovascular and Neurologic Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Events After Trans-Aortic Valve Implantation for Aortic Stenosis) trial demonstrated that apixaban 5 mg twice daily was not superior to standard of care (vitamin K antagonists or antiplatelet therapy) after successful TAVR and was associated with similar safety but with more noncardiovascular deaths.

Electronic address:

The epidemic of Covid-19 was characterized, from its beginning, by "emergency". A state of emergency enacted by the state authorities to fight, on one hand, against the pandemic as such and, on the other hand, to manage the influx of patients admitted in intensive care. In this unprecedented context, the suffering of the people goes beyond the emergency situation and persists in forms ranging from a pseudo-banality to the complexity of an insidious evolution.

[Vascular rehabilitation in lower-extremity artery diseasein 2018].

What We Knew: The vascular rehabilitation is an effective treatment for patients with an intermittent claudication linked to lower-extremity artery disease. This treatment increases the claudication distance of 180% with the Gardner's protocol (30 to 60 minutes of walking at least 3 times a week, walking until appearance of a mild pain) and allows also to control the vascular risk factors. This treatment is not enough prescribed for many reasons and often requires a hospitalization in a rehabilitation centre.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether 45 mins of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation before exercise could delay pain onset and increase walking distance in peripheral artery disease patients.

Design: After a baseline assessment of the walking velocity that led to pain after 300 m, 15 peripheral artery disease patients underwent four exercise sessions in a random order. The patients had a 45-min transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation session with different experimental conditions: 80 Hz, 10 Hz, sham (presence of electrodes without stimulation), or control with no electrodes, immediately followed by five walking bouts on a treadmill until pain occurred.

Non-pharmacological strategies in cardiovascular prevention: 2011 highlights.

Ann Phys Rehabil Med

July 2012

Clinique Saint-Orens, centre de rééducation cardiovasculaire et pulmonaire, 12, avenue de Revel, 31650 Saint-Orens de Gameville, France.

The clinical efficacy of cardiac rehabilitation programs is clearly recognized. Yet, as regards the three main currently employed strategies (exercise, education, and psychobehavioral support), new ideas regularly appear, stemming from studies aimed at providing proof of their efficacy and innocuousness, along with optimal modes of prescription and, at times, their cost-benefit ratio. This ongoing work, which was initially developed in view of enriching the "What's new in?" section of the Sofmer website, represents a selection of articles that may be non-exhaustive, yet is maximally diversified and as representative as possible of the main 2011 highlights in the field of cardiovascular prevention.
