Genomic Contextualism: Shifting the Rhetoric of Genetic Exceptionalism.

As genomic science has evolved, so have policy and practice debates about how to describe and evaluate the ways in which genomic information is treated for individuals, institutions, and society. The term genetic exceptionalism, describing the concept that genetic information is special or unique, and specifically different from other kinds of medical information, has been utilized widely, but often counterproductively in these debates. We offer genomic contextualism as a new term to frame the characteristics of genomic science in the debates.

Dyadic adjustment suffers among individuals with PTSD and substance use disorder and may be an important mechanism of change in treatment. This exploratory study examined the association between dyadic adjustment and treatment outcomes in individual integrated treatment for co-occurring PTSD and substance use disorder.

Objective: We tested the hypothesis that medical students receive insufficient training on correct methods for donning and doffing PPE.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of medical students on clinical rotations at two teaching hospitals to determine the type of training they received in PPE technique.

Enjoyment is an important construct for understanding physical activity participation, and it has not been examined in adults with functional limitations. This secondary analysis reported the reliability and validity of the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES) in a convenience sample of 40 adults with functional limitations. The participants completed the PACES, Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), and the Late Life Function and Disability Instrument (LLFDI) prior to beginning a 12-week feasibility dance intervention study.

Resourcefulness Training for Women Dementia Caregivers: Acceptability and Feasibility of Two Methods.

Almost 10 million women in the United States are caregivers for elders with dementia and many experience extreme stress that compromises their health. Acceptable and feasible interventions to teach them resourcefulness skills for managing stress may improve their health and facilitate continued caregiving. This study examined two commonly used methods for practicing skills taught during resourcefulness training (RT) to women caregivers of elders with dementia (n=63): journaling and digital voice recording.

Young Victims Telling their Stories of Sexual Abuse in the Emergency Department.

Among young children, child sexual abuse is a common type of maltreatment. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is an important national public health problem that has a devastating impact on the emotional and psychological makeup of the child, family, and society. The purpose of this analysis is to explore the young victim's own stories of disclosure of child sexual abuse and is an exploratory case study using reported assault histories of victims of CSA between the ages of 6 and 14, taken in the immediate wake of the assault.

The purpose of this study was to examine unawareness of deficit in Alzheimer's disease (AD) in a previously unexplored functional domain: social interaction and emotional control competency. Impairment of awareness was measured by calculating the degree to which patients and their caregivers disagreed on ratings of patient functioning. to assess potential underlying mechanisms or associated features of social/emotional unawareness, a regression equation examining disease and demographic correlates was created.

Effects of Cognitive Group Iterventions on Depression and Cognition Among Elderly Women in Long-Term Care.

The effects of cognitive-behavioral group therapy and focused visual imagery group therapy on cognition and depression in frail women residing in nursing homes were examined.' Twenty-four (24) women participated in a 24-week protocol of cognitive- behavioral group therapy and twenty-one (21) in a protocol of visual imagery group therapy of similar duration. Eleven (11) women in a comparison condition participated in a 24 week series of educational discussion group sessions.
