Health professions education: Advancing geriatrics and gerontology competencies through Age-Friendly University (AFU) Principles.

This article elucidates opportunities for health professions education programs to make a mark in the Age Friendly University (AFU) initiative. Specifically, key approaches are introduced for health professions education programs based on the Age Friendly University Global Network initiative and the Academy for Gerontology/Geriatrics in Higher Education (AGHE) Program of Merit for Health Professions Programs. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that offer health professions education, have various options to establish and enhance student gerontology/geriatrics competence and confidence.

The use of single balloon enteroscopy in Crohn's disease and its impact on clinical outcome.

Objectives: Single balloon enteroscopy (SBE) is an effective and safe modality for the diagnosis and therapeutic intervention of small bowel disorders. Its use in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) and particularly its effect on management changes in CD have not yet been determined.

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective review of the endoscopic and clinical data available on a cohort of patients with small bowel CD who had undergone SBE to determine the diagnostic and therapeutic yield of the procedure and the initial and longer-term impact it had on clinical management.

Limited role and benefit of ivabradine in the treatment of angina and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

Ivabradine is an original drug that has been approved in two indications (systolic heart failure and angina). The aim of this short review is to draw the attention of clinician prescribers to the evidence base of ivabradine. Three large randomized trials testing ivabradine versus placebo have been performed.

"I hate being a burden": The patient perspective on carer burden in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Research has shown that family caregivers of ALS patients encounter carer burden. Studies that have investigated the impact of caring on family in ALS have reported predominantly from the family caregiver perspective. We undertook in-depth qualitative interviews with a diverse group of ALS patients (n = 34) sampled from the Irish ALS population-based register and explored their experiences of receiving care from family members and from formal service providers.
