Extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition and remodelling in skin and lungs of systemic sclerosis (SSc) subjects lead to release of metabolites/biomarkers into circulation. We investigated if biomarkers of ECM degradation (biglycan and elastin) and macrophage activation (citrullinated vimentin) could identify diffuse SSc (dSSc) subjects from controls and the biomarkers discriminative power. DSSc subjects ( = 40) fulfilling the 2013 EULAR/ACR classification criteria were divided in early (<2years of symptoms) and late (≥10 years of symptoms).

Background: Hereditary transthyretin (ATTRm) amyloidosis is a rare, progressive and fatal disease with a range of clinical manifestations.
Objective: This study comprehensively evaluates disease characteristics in a large, diverse cohort of patients with ATTRm amyloidosis.
Methods: Adult patients (N = 172) with Stage 1 or Stage 2 ATTRm amyloidosis who had polyneuropathy were screened and enrolled across 24 investigative sites and 10 countries in the NEURO-TTR trial ( www.

Objective: In 2013 a novel commercial test was launched (Anser ADA test) for the assay of serum adalimumab (ADL) and antibodies to adalimumab (ATA). This study aims to understand clinical practice patterns used with ADL in a real-world cross-sectional population.
Methods: Wilcoxon rank sum test, and linear and logistic regression methods were applied in the statistical analysis to test hypotheses.

This study aimed to compare the reliability and magnitude of conditioned pain modulation (CPM) by applying different test stimuli (TS) and conditioning stimuli (CS). Twenty-six healthy male participants were recruited in the study of two identical sessions. In each session, four TS (electrical, heat, handheld, and cuff pressure algometry) were applied before and during CS (cold pressor test (CPT) or cuff algometry).

Introduction: An intradermal version of Fluzone® split-virion inactivated trivalent influenza vaccine, containing 9 µg hemagglutinin per strain of A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and one B lineage virus (Fluzone Intradermal, Sanofi Pasteur), became available in the US during the 2011-2012 influenza season for adults 18-64 years of age. In advance of the 2015-2016 season, Fluzone Intradermal was replaced with Fluzone Intradermal Quadrivalent vaccine, which contains 9 µg hemagglutinin per strain of the two A-strain viruses and both B-strain lineage viruses (Victoria and Yamagata).
Areas Covered: This literature review summarizes the history and mechanism of intradermal vaccination, discusses the clinical trial results supporting the immunogenicity and safety of Fluzone Intradermal Quadrivalent vaccine, and describes the unique microinjection system used to deliver Fluzone Intradermal Quadrivalent.

This study investigated whether itch induced by intra-epidermal histamine is subjected to modulation by a standardized conditioned pain modulation (CPM) paradigm in 24 healthy volunteers. CPM was induced by computer-controlled cuff pressure algometry and histamine was introduced to the volar forearm by skin prick test punctures. Moreover, neurogenic inflammation and wheal reactions induced by histamine and autonomic nervous system responses (heart rate variability and skin conductance) were monitored.

Introduction: Blisibimod is a potent and selective inhibitor of B cell activating factor (BAFF), a mediator of differentiation, maturation and survival of B cells. It has a unique tetravalent, 'peptibody' structure and resulting high potency, and is currently in clinical evaluation for the treatment of SLE. The importance of BAFF in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is under intense investigation.

Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) vary in their structure, duration of action, efficacy, and safety. In order to optimize glycemic control, it is important to target both fasting (FPG) and postprandial plasma (PPG) glucose. Although phase 3 trials document the effect of GLP-1 RAs on glycated hemoglobin, few data are available to assess their effect on PPG.

Dengue fever is caused by infection with one of four dengue virus (DENV) serotypes (DENV-1-4), necessitating tetravalent dengue vaccines that can induce protection against all four DENV. Takeda's live attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccine candidate (TDV) comprises an attenuated DENV-2 strain plus chimeric viruses containing the prM and E genes of DENV-1, -3 and -4 cloned into the attenuated DENV-2 'backbone'. In Phase 1 and 2 studies, TDV was well tolerated by children and adults aged 1.
