It has been reported that haem oxygenase-1 (Hmox1) induction attenuates neointimal thickening. Here we further investigated the potential mechanisms regulating this important pathological process. We revealed that histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) was induced following Hmox1 induction under 1% oxygen treatment and this induction was attenuated after the treatment of siRNA against Hmox1.

Background: The predictive value of interventricular versus intraventricular dyssynchrony for response to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) remains unclear. We investigated the relative importance of both ventricular electrical substrate components for left ventricular (LV) hemodynamic function.
Methods And Results: First, we used the cardiovascular computational model CircAdapt to characterize the isolated effect of intrinsic interventricular and intraventricular activation on CRT response (ΔLVdP/dt).

Introduction: Thymosin beta-4 (TB4) is an endogenous peptide with protective and regenerative effects in models of cellular and organ injury. TB4 is increasingly measured as a potential plasma or serum biomarker in human cardiovascular, liver, infectious, and autoimmune disease.
Areas Covered: The focus of this review is the quantification of TB4 in clinical cohort studies and whether reported TB4 concentrations differ with respect to method of sample preparation.

Aims: We aimed to assess the uptake of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) among patients with atrial fibrillation between 2010 and 2015 in Switzerland.
Methods: We performed a prospective observational cohort study. At the baseline examination and during yearly follow-ups, we used questionnaires to obtain information about clinical characteristics and antithrombotic treatment.

Experimental studies indicate improved ventricular function after treatment with growth hormone (GH) post-myocardial infarction, but its effect on arrhythmogenesis is unknown. Here, we assessed the medium-term electrophysiologic remodeling after intra-myocardial GH administration in (n = 33) rats. GH was released from an alginate scaffold, injected around the ischemic myocardium after coronary ligation.

Background: Heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), and inflammation are all associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess potential interrelationships between these parameters in a young and healthy population.
Methods: Healthy individuals aged 25-41 years were included in a prospective population-based study.

Context: Clinical studies have shown that combined oral contraceptive (COC) use is associated with cardiometabolic disturbances. Elevated renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) have also been implicated in the development of cardiometabolic events.
Objective: To determine the effect of COC treatment on cardiac RAS and PAI-1 gene expressions, and whether the effect is circulating aldosterone or corticosterone dependent.

Context: Cardiometabolic disorders are rapidly becoming major public health challenges. Valproic acid (VPA) is a widely prescribed anticonvulsant drug.
Objective: We hypothesized that treatment with VPA would improve the regulation of glucose and atherogenic dyslipidemia through reduction in circulating corticosterone.

Prevention of left ventricular remodeling is an important therapeutic target post-myocardial infarction. Experimentally, treatment with growth hormone (GH) is beneficial, but sustained local administration has not been thoroughly investigated. We studied 58 rats (322 ± 4 g).

Obesity is an important contributor to the burden of insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. An important mechanism by which excess adiposity causes obesity-associated complications is the dysregulated production and secretion of biologically active molecules derived from adipocytes. These adipokines affect the vascular wall and contribute to the development of insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes.
