Article Synopsis
  • Gene expression profiling (GEP) categorizes uveal melanoma patients into low (class 1) and high (class 2) metastatic risk but traditionally relies on invasive tumor biopsies, which have associated risks.
  • Ocular liquid biopsy, using aqueous humor (AH) samples, is explored as a less-invasive alternative that can analyze protein levels to predict metastasis-related outcomes.
  • In this study, 20 AH samples revealed 45 differentially expressed proteins that can differentiate between the two GEP classes, with potential biomarkers IL1R and SPRY2 identified as regulators in metastasis pathways.

Therapy animals have been frequently included in interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD); however, direct and systematic procedures such as assessing preference for and reinforcing efficacy of the animals are rarely conducted. Assessing preference for stimuli is valuable when determining how to make interventions for children with ASD most effective. We conducted paired-stimulus preference assessments and follow-up reinforcer assessments to determine if a therapy dog might be an effective reinforcer.

Unlabelled: The rarity of malignant Hodgkin and Reed Sternberg (HRS) cells in classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) limits the ability to study the genomics of cHL. To circumvent this, our group has previously optimized fluorescence-activated cell sorting to purify HRS cells. Using this approach, we now report the whole-genome sequencing landscape of HRS cells and reconstruct the chronology and likely etiology of pathogenic events leading to cHL.

Background: Pregnancy and early parenthood can be challenging transitional times for many families, especially those struggling with opioid use disorder (OUD). Over 8 million children live with a parent with SUD and parental drug use has been attributed to rising rates of family instability and child welfare involvement (Lipari & Van Horn, 2017; AFCARS, 2020;). Community-based prevention programming for families with young children, such as evidence-based maternal and child home visiting (EBHV), may we well positioned to engage and support families impacted by the opioid epidemic through early childhood.

Brain and Behavior Program at Children's Hospital, Department of Neurology, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans, New Orleans, USA.

The mirror neuron system consists of fronto-parietal regions and responds to both goal-directed action execution and observation. The broader action observation network is specifically involved in observation of actions and is thought to play a role in understanding the goals of the motor act, the intention of others, empathy, and language. Many, but not all, studies have found mirror neuron system or action observation network dysfunction in autism spectrum disorder.

Acute right ventricular pressure overload (RVPO) occurs following congenital heart surgery and often results in low cardiac output syndrome. We tested the hypothesis that the RV exhibits limited ability to modify substrate utilization in response to increasing energy requirements during acute RVPO after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). We assessed the RV fractional contributions (Fc) of substrates to the citric acid cycle in juvenile pigs exposed to acute RVPO by pulmonary artery banding (PAB) and CPB.

Background: In patients with retinoblastoma, gains of chromosome 6p have been associated with less differentiated tumors. In cell-free DNA from the aqueous humor (AH), 6p gain has been associated with an increased risk of enucleation. While the identification of somatic copy number alterations (SCNAs) via the AH has been well established, these alterations are not routinely identified in the blood due to low tumor fraction.
