Ruxolitinib is a cornerstone of management for some subsets of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs); however, a considerable number of patients respond suboptimally. Here, we evaluated the efficacy of micheliolide (MCL), a natural guaianolide sesquiterpene lactone, alone or in combination with ruxolitinib in samples from patients with MPNs, V617F-mutated MPN cell lines, and a V617F knock-in mouse model. MCL effectively suppressed colony formation of hematopoietic progenitors in samples from patients with MPNs and inhibited cell growth and survival of MPN cell lines in vitro.

Background: Mammary physiology is distinguished in containing adult stem/progenitor cells that are actively amending the breast tissue throughout the reproductive lifespan of women. Despite their importance in both mammary gland development, physiological maintenance, and reproduction, the exact role of mammary stem/progenitor cells in mammary tumorigenesis has not been fully elucidated in humans or animal models. Objective: To determine the effects of using K18-methyl methacrylate (K18-MMA) and K18-Filler on composite cure, esthetic, mechanical, polymerization shrinkage, and antimicrobial properties.

Methods: K18-MMA (0-20% w/w) was used to replace TEGDMA in a 70:30 Bis-GMA:TEGDMA composite filled to 70% w/w with barium glass or K18-Filler. Composite degree of cure (Rockwell hardness and near Infrared FTIR), hydrophilicity (contact angle measurements), translucency (transparency parameter measurements, TP), mechanical (3-point bend test), polymerization shrinkage (volumetric shrinkage and shrinkage stress), and antimicrobial properties (colony counting assay) against Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguinis, and Candida albicans were determined.

Background: An increase in central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) has been reported during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic; however, few studies have documented causative pathogens, particularly Candida species associated with candidemia.

Methods: This was a retrospective study based on the National Health Care Safety Network surveillance definitions of CLABSI caused by Candida species during pre-COVID-19 (October 2017 to February 2020) and COVID-19 (March 2020 to December 2021) periods within a local community hospital. Candida CLABSI incidence per 1,000 central line days was compared between periods using the χ test and correlated with COVID-19 inpatient hospitalization rates using Pearson correlation.

Nontarget embolization is a rare complication that may occur after a patient undergoes transarterial chemoembolization as a localized treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. This phenomenon can occur because of variations in arterial blood supply to the liver and ultimately can lead to ischemic complications in unintended locations. The collection of known genetic etiologies of neurodevelopmental disorders continues to increase, including several syndromes associated with defects in zinc finger protein transcription factors (ZNFs) that vary in clinical severity from mild learning disabilities and developmental delay to refractory seizures and severe autism spectrum disorder. Here we describe a new neurodevelopmental disorder associated with variants in ZBTB47 (also known as ZNF651), which encodes zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 47.
