Background: Although perioperative prophylactic glucocorticoids have been used for decades, whether they improve outcomes in infants after heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass is unknown.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter, prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled, registry-based trial involving infants (<1 year of age) undergoing heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass at 24 sites participating in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database. Registry data were used in the evaluation of outcomes.

Background: Patients with relapsed or refractory mantle-cell lymphoma who have disease progression during or after the receipt of Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor therapy have a poor prognosis. KTE-X19, an anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, may have benefit in patients with relapsed or refractory mantle-cell lymphoma.
Methods: In a multicenter, phase 2 trial, we evaluated KTE-X19 in patients with relapsed or refractory mantle-cell lymphoma.

Environmental disinfection has become the new frontier in the ongoing battle to reduce the risk of health care-associated infections. Evidence demonstrating the persistent contamination of environmental surfaces despite traditional cleaning and disinfection methods has led to the widespread acceptance that there is both a need for reassessing traditional cleaning protocols and for using secondary disinfection technologies. Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) disinfection is one type of no-touch technology shown to be a successful adjunct to manual cleaning in reducing environmental bioburden.

Perioperative blood loss during total knee arthroplasty can be significant, with magnitudes typically ranging from 300 mL to 1 L, with occasional reports of up to 2 L. The resultant anemia can lead to severe complications, such as higher rates of postoperative infection, slower physical recovery, increased length of hospital stay, and increased morbidity and mortality. Although blood transfusions are now screened to a greater extent than in the past, they still carry the inherent risks of clerical error, infection, and immunologic reactions, all of which drive the need to develop alternative blood management strategies.

Introduction: While it is common practice that hypnotics are used on a non-nightly basis, few investigations have been undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of the intermittent dosing strategy. The present study was designed to further evaluate this issue within a large scale, double-blind, placebo-controlled, long-term trial.
Method: Patients who met DSM-IV criteria for primary insomnia participated in the study from January 2000 through October 2001.

The purpose of this study was to examine whether prompt diagnosis and management of shoulder pain is beneficial in decreasing pain and increasing range of motion and functional recovery. Among 116 stroke patients receiving outpatient rehabilitation, 48 had shoulder pain. Twenty-eight of the patients with shoulder pain received occupational therapy and physiatric management.
