Objectives: Malnutrition is a prevalent condition in cancer patients that significantly impacts patients' clinical outcomes and health-related quality of life (HR-QoL). The outcome was to characterize the nutritional status by describing the prevalence of malnutrition (mild, moderate, or severe) and its risk in outpatient cancer patients.

Methods: Multicenter, prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive, two-cohort study conducted on consecutive adult patients with locally advanced or metastatic solid tumors (stages III-IV).

The impact of prior unsuccessful debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) procedures on subsequent revisions is uncertain, with conflicting evidence. Despite 85% consensus against the second DAIR procedure following the 2018 International Consensus Meeting, a 2020 study reported high success rates for the aforementioned second DAIR procedure. We conducted a multicenter observational study reviewing data from patients with failed DAIR procedures between 2005 and 2021.

Donor-derived cell-free DNA as a new biomarker for cardiac allograft rejection: A prospective study (FreeDNA-CAR).

Background: There is a long-standing need for a noninvasive biomarker that allows monitoring of cardiac allograft rejection, avoiding the need for periodic endomyocardial biopsies (EMB).

Methods: Multicenter, observational, prospective study, performed between 2019 and 2023 (NCT04973943). All patients underwent 7 per-protocol surveillance EMB during the first postheart transplantation year.

The minor in Spanish legislation: an ethics perspective.

Introduction: Legislation embodies and regulates the common values by which a society is governed. Today's society is multicultural and dynamic, a consensus must be reached and values consolidated on which different ideological groups can agree, an approach known as the ethics of minima. The concept of the minor has also been changing over the years; from being perceived as passive to being considered an autonomous individual engaged in the development of his or her life project and the bearer of duties and rights to be progressively exercised according to his or her capacity.

Activities of the clinical pharmacist in the intensive care units.

The main objective of the activity carried out in an intensive care unit and in general in all hospitalization units, is to provide all the human and material resources to offer the best therapeutic care to admitted patients. Work in multidisciplinary teams, made up of specialists in Intensive Care Medicine as those responsible for the patients, doctors from other specialties, specialized nursing, physiotherapists, nutritionists and clinical pharmacists is an optimal approach to achieve the proposed objective. The activities of the clinical pharmacist can be developed at different levels (basic, intermediate and excellent) depending on the degree of involvement, the time dedicated, the training and the available resources.

Objective: Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare metabolic disorder caused by haploinsufficiency of hepatic porphobilinogen deaminase (PBGD), the third enzyme of the heme biosynthesis. Individuals with AIP experience neurovisceral attacks closely associated with hepatic overproduction of potentially neurotoxic heme precursors.

Design: We replicated AIP in non-human primates (NHPs) through selective knockdown of the hepatic gene and evaluated the safety and therapeutic efficacy of human PBGD (hPBGD) mRNA rescue.

Background: Untreated hearing loss has an effect on cognition. It is hypothesized that the additional processing required to compensate for the sensory loss affects the cognitive resources available for other tasks and that this could be mitigated by a hearing device.

Methods: The impact on cognition of cochlear implants (CIs) was tested in 100 subjects, ≥60 years old, with bilateral moderately-severe to profound post linguistic deafness using hearing aids.

International expert consensus statement: surgical failure in obstructive sleep apnea.

Purpose: Upper airway (UA) surgery is commonly employed in the treatment of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The intricate pathophysiology of OSA, variability in sites and patterns of UA collapse, and the interaction between anatomical and non-anatomical factors in individual patients may contribute to possible surgical failures. This clinical consensus statement aims to identify areas of agreement among a development group comprising international experts in OSA surgery, regarding the appropriate definition, predictive factors in patients, and management of surgical failure in OSA treatment.

Measurable residual disease by mass spectrometry and next-generation flow to assess treatment response in myeloma.

Quantitative immunoprecipitation mass spectrometry (QIP-MS) allows the identification of the M-protein in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) otherwise in complete response, and could be considered suitable for measurable residual disease (MRD) evaluation in peripheral blood. In the context of the GEM2012MENOS65 and GEM2014MAIN trials, we compared the performance of QIP-MS in serum with next-generation flow (NGF) cytometry in bone marrow to assess MRD in paired samples obtained postinduction, transplant, consolidation and after 24 cycles of maintenance. At each time point, both NGF and QIP-MS were able to segregate 2 groups of patients with significantly different progression-free survival; when the evolution of the results obtained with either method was considered, maintaining or converting to MRD negativity was associated with longer survival, significantly better when compared with sustaining or converting to MRD positivity.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may result in great impact on patients' quality of life, social relationships, and work productivity. Standardization of the definition of the types of oncological colectomy. Delphi method for consensus of experts of the Spanish Association of Surgeons.

There is no international consensus on the definition of the type of oncological resection that corresponds to each of the colectomies existing in the current literature. The objective is to define for each colectomy described in the literature: embryological dissection plane, vascular pedicles in which to perform central ligation, the extent of the colectomy, and the need for resection of the greater momentum. A consensus of experts is carried out through the Delphi methodology through two rounds from the Coloproctology Section of the Spanish Association of Surgeons.
