Located within 5' untranslated region of HCV RNA is internal ribosome entry site (IRES) which directs cap-independent translation of viral polyprotein. Mutations in IRES sequence have been shown to cause changes in efficiency of protein translation in vitro in few instances. No study has been done to investigate association between frequency of nucleotide sequence variations in IRES region of HCV-3 RNA and response to pegylated interferon-α plus ribavirin therapy.

Hypospadiology is a rapidly evolving field. Progress in the understanding of how hormonal therapy affects the growth of the phallus has allowed surgeons to optimize the tissues for surgery. But conflicting data from a number of studies and a lack of consensus on drugs, their dosing, mode of delivery and timing of use means that the creation of protocols is unlikely to happen in the near future.

Childhood primary angiitis of the central nervous system (cPACNS) is a rare and a potentially fatal cause of childhood stroke. The disease poses a diagnostic dilemma for the clinicians due to overlapping and varied clinical manifestations such as headache, focal acute neurological deficits, cognitive impairment, or encephalopathy. We report a young boy who presented with low-grade fever and headache but rapidly progressed to develop acute encephalopathy and quadriparesis with multiple cranial nerve palsies, masquerading as acute disseminated encephalomyelitis.

Long-term protection against meningococcal disease relies on antibody persistence after vaccination. We report antibody persistence up to 5 y after vaccination in adolescents who received a single dose of either meningococcal serogroups A, C, W, Y tetanus toxoid conjugate vaccine (MenACWY-TT, Pfizer) or MenACWY polysaccharide vaccine (MenPS, GSK Vaccines) at the age of 11-17 y in the randomized controlled primary study NCT00464815. In this phase III, open, controlled, multi-center persistence follow-up study conducted in India and the Philippines (NCT00974363), antibody persistence was evaluated by a serum bactericidal antibody assay using rabbit complement (rSBA) yearly, up to year 5 after vaccination.

Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and Mucolipidosis (ML) share common phenotypes (coarse facial features, organomegaly, dysostosis multiplex) despite having different molecular basis. Thus, they pose great diagnostic challenge to treating clinicians. Differentiating between the two conditions requires a battery of tests from screening to molecular diagnosis.
