Background: Lumbar puncture (LP) in young infants may challenge clinicians due to the infrequency of the procedure and anatomic variability. The use of ultrasound (US) to characterize young infant spinal anatomy prior to performing an LP may help determine the most favorable site for intervention.
Objectives: 1) Evaluate potential sites for LP in young infants with US at L2/L3 through L5/S1 to determine differences in needle insertion depth (NID), spinal canal width (SCW), and subarachnoid fluid width (SAW).

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) has been used for chemotherapy for colorectal and other cancers for over 50 years. The prevailing view of its mechanism of action is inhibition of thymidine synthase leading to defects in DNA replication and repair. Background: Pediatric hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients are at high-risk for morbidity from influenza virus infection. We demonstrated in a primary phase II randomized controlled trial that two post-HCT doses of high-dose trivalent influenza vaccine (HD-TIV) given four weeks apart were more immunogenic than two doses of standard-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (SD-QIV). Herein, we present immunogenicity and safety of influenza vaccination in a consecutive season post-HCT using the same dosing regimen.

Background: To characterize a cohort of ventilator-dependent infants and children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia-associated pulmonary hypertension (BPD-PH) and to describe their cardiorespiratory outcomes.
Methods: Subjects with BPD on chronic home ventilation were recruited from outpatient clinics. PH was defined by its presence on ≥1 cardiac catheterization or echocardiogram on or after 36 weeks post-menstrual age.

Objective: To determine the association between indoor air pollution and respiratory morbidities in children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) recruited from the multicenter BPD Collaborative.
Study Design: A cross-sectional study was performed among participants <3 years old in the BPD Collaborative Outpatient Registry. Indoor air pollution was defined as any reported exposure to tobacco or marijuana smoke, electronic cigarette emissions, gas stoves, and/or wood stoves.

Extracellular vesicles and nanoparticles (EVPs) are now recognized as a novel form of cell-cell communication. All cells release a wide array of heterogeneous EVPs with distinct protein, lipid, and RNA content, dependent on the pathophysiological state of the donor cell. The overall cargo content in EVPs is not equivalent to cellular levels, implying a regulated pathway for selection and export.

Objective: To identify factors associated with the timing of ventilator liberation and tracheostomy decannulation among infants with severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (sBPD) who required chronic outpatient invasive ventilation.
Study Design: Multicenter retrospective study of 154 infants with sBPD on outpatient ventilators. Factors associated with ventilator liberation and decannulation were identified using Cox regression models and multilevel survival models.

Although natural supports benefit individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), little is known about natural support provided within specific life domains or how race/ethnicity or support from professionals impacts the extent of natural support one receives. In this study, 518 parents of adults with IDD responded to a national survey about natural supports, including who provides support, the number of supporters, and variables that predict natural supports. Family most often provided support, although professionals and family friends were frequent supporters in several domains.

Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) is a driver of embryonic patterning that, when corrupted, triggers developmental disorders and cancers. SHH effector responses are organized through primary cilia (PC) that grow and retract with the cell cycle and in response to extracellular cues. Disruption of PC homeostasis corrupts SHH regulation, placing significant pressure on the pathway to maintain ciliary fitness.

Objective: To estimate the association between mean arterial pressure during pregnancy and neonatal outcomes in participants with chronic hypertension using data from the CHAP (Chronic Hypertension and Pregnancy) trial.
Methods: A secondary analysis of the CHAP trial, an open-label, multicenter randomized trial of antihypertensive treatment in pregnancy, was conducted. The CHAP trial enrolled participants with mild chronic hypertension (blood pressure [BP] 140-159/90-104 mm Hg) and singleton pregnancies less than 23 weeks of gestation, randomizing them to active treatment (maintained on antihypertensive therapy with a goal BP below 140/90 mm Hg) or standard treatment (control; antihypertensives withheld unless BP reached 160 mm Hg systolic BP or higher or 105 mm Hg diastolic BP or higher).

These driver mutations can be single nucleotide variants in cancer driver genes or larger structural rearrangements called mosaic chromosomal alterations (mCAs). Objectives: In this feasibility study, we explored the combined use of circulating tumor human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA (ctHPVDNA) and HPV serology as diagnostic tests for HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC).
Methods: Among patients with research-banked serum or plasma at diagnosis, IgG antibodies to oncoproteins from HPV types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 45, 52, and 58 were detected with multiplex serology. Positivity for HPV 16 was defined based on detection of combinations of anti-E6, E1, E2, and E7 and for other high-risk types on detection of anti-E6 and anti-E7.
