Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques have emerged as a promising non-pharmacological adjunct to neurorehabilitation. Children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) exhibit altered cortical excitability, and while CP remains incurable, physiotherapy combined with other interventions is essential for managing motor dysfunction. Although some studies have examined NIBS using various stimulation parameters, there is limited evidence regarding its effects on the lower extremities and optimal administration protocols.

Futile recanalization hampers prognoses for ischemic stroke patients despite successful recanalization therapy. Allegedly, hypertension and reperfusion deficits contribute, but a better understanding is needed of how they interact and mediate disease outcome. We reassessed data from spontaneously hypertensive and normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats (male, n = 6-7/group) that were subjected to two-hour embolic middle cerebral artery occlusion and thrombolysis in preclinical trials.

Background: Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is characterized by hypogammaglobulinemia and recurrent infections. Significant morbidity and mortality are caused by immune dysregulation complications (CVIDid), which affect around one-third of CVID patients and have a poorly understood etiology. Here, we investigate the hypothesis that gut microbial dysbiosis contributes to the inflammation underlying CVIDid.

Trait-based approaches are revolutionizing our understanding of high-diversity ecosystems by providing insights into the principles underlying key ecological processes, such as community assembly, species distribution, resilience, and the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. In 2016, the Coral Trait Database advanced coral reef science by centralizing trait information for stony corals (i.e.

The International Classification of Diseases, eleventh edition (ICD-11) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition, text revision (DSM-5-TR) include such grief reactions as prolonged grief disorder (PGD). Loneliness is often experienced by bereaved persons and can have severe health consequences.

Background: Middle-aged and older adults presenting clinically relevant depressive symptoms are often undiagnosed. Understanding the determinants of late-life depressive symptoms could improve prognosis. Further, individuals with manifest cardiovascular disease (CVD) are at an increased risk of depression.

A post hoc analysis of maternally derived antibodies at birth and age 2 months following second trimester maternal Tdap vaccination between 20 and 24 weeks' gestational age (GA) showed a faster decay rate of Tdap-related immunoglobulin G in early preterms born before 32 weeks' GA compared with moderate-to-late preterms and full-terms. This is different from previous studies and merits further research.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is closely associated with many aspects of disturbed metabolic health. MASLD encompasses a wide spectrum of liver diseases, ranging from isolated steatosis to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), up to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and ultimately hepatocellular carcinoma. Limited noninvasive diagnostic tools are currently available to distinguish the various stages of MASLD and as such liver biopsy remains the gold standard for MASLD diagnostics.

Objective: The Risk of Pain Spreading (ROPS) is a six-item tool capturing key data-driven prognostic factors for chronic pain and its spreading. Higher values on the ROPS indicate a higher risk. Early factors potentially associated with the ROPS are unknown.

Stem cells perceive and respond to biochemical and physical signals to maintain homeostasis. Yet, it remains unclear how stem cells sense mechanical signals from their niche in vivo. In this work, we investigated the roles of PIEZO mechanosensitive channels in the intestinal stem cell (ISC) niche.

Background: Both the symptoms and diagnoses of mental health disorders affect individuals' occupational status and income. However, studies that compare the impact of differences between symptoms and diagnoses on occupational outcomes are lacking.
Aims: This study aimed to compare labour market attachment and income until midlife between individuals with different histories of mental disorder symptoms and diagnoses.

Introduction: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) affects 1-2 per 1,000 births and is associated with mortality and long-term neurodevelopmental challenges. At present, therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is the only neuroprotective intervention for these infants. This study examines whether HIE severity, clinical management during TH, and post-rewarming outcomes have changed since its introduction 15 years ago.

In pediatric cancer, structural variants (SVs) and copy-number alterations contribute to cancer initiation as well as progression, thereby aiding diagnosis and treatment stratification. Although suggested to be of importance, the prevalence and biological relevance of complex genomic rearrangements (CGRs) across pediatric solid tumors is largely unexplored. In a cohort of 120 primary tumors, we systematically characterized patterns of extrachromosomal DNA, chromoplexy, and chromothripsis across five pediatric solid cancer types.

Reconstructing rainfall variability and moisture sources is a critical aspect to understand past and future hydroclimate dynamics. Here, we use changes in the deuterium content of land-plant leaf waxes from two marine sediment cores located off Chile to reconstruct changes in rainfall amount and variation in moisture sources over the last ~50 ka. The records indicate increased moisture in central Chile during precession maxima, but an obliquity modulation is evident in southern Chile.

Understanding the genetic basis of neuro-related proteins is essential for dissecting the molecular basis of human behavioural traits and the disease aetiology of neuropsychiatric disorders. Here the SCALLOP Consortium conducted a genome-wide association meta-analysis of over 12,000 individuals for 184 neuro-related proteins in human plasma. The analysis identified 125 cis-regulatory protein quantitative trait loci (cis-pQTL) and 164 trans-pQTL.
