Length of hospital stay and readmissions after major lower extremity amputation: a Danish nationwide registry study.

Background And Purpose:  Major lower extremity amputation (MLEA) is associated with complications that may prolong length of hospital stay (LOS) and increase the risk of readmission. We primarily aimed to examine the LOS and risk of readmissions after MLEA in Denmark. Secondarily we investigated the time trends.

Patients with Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures in Denmark 2010-2018: A National Registry Analysis.

Study Design: Register-based cohort study based on linked data from multiple national registries.

Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and health characteristics of individuals in Denmark with osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVF) and analyze time trends. The study compares labor market participation and comorbidities between OVF patients and a matched control group without these fractures.

Circulating Adipokines and Response to Treatment in Patients With Early Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine if baseline adiponectin, leptin, and resistin levels are associated with response to antirheumatic treatment in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: This study included 341 participants of the Nordic Rheumatic Diseases Strategy Trials and Registries trial with untreated early RA, randomized at baseline into four treatment arms: methotrexate combined with (1) prednisolone, (2) certolizumab, (3) abatacept, or (4) tocilizumab. Follow-up was up to 48 weeks.

Objective: The high prevalence of osteoporosis in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is due to inflammation that stimulates differentiation of osteoclasts, a process involving circulating monocytes and T cell-derived factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate relations between circulating monocytes, T cell subsets, and changes in bone characteristics before and after treatment with biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) in RA.

Methods: Thirty patients with untreated early RA who met the American College of Rheumatology/EULAR 2010 criteria were included.

Introduction: A Norwegian-Danish research team identified a gap in research regarding how surgical patients felt about their post-operative care needs being met in hospitals. A study was subsequently developed to understand their subjective assessments of how they value the perceived fulfilment of their actual care needs. The study was further informed by international calls to focus on the fundamentals of care practice.

Background: Multiple myeloma often presents with vague and non-specific symptoms. Many patients are diagnosed in unplanned rather than elective (planned) diagnostic pathways. This study investigates the diagnosis of multiple myeloma in unplanned pathways and the association with patient characteristics, disease profile, and survival.

Exploring young adults' experiences with food allergy during their teenage years: A practice research study.

Introduction: Symptoms of anxiety, eating disorders and social isolation are prevalent among teenagers with food allergy compared to peers without. Treatment of teenagers with food allergy focus on preventing anaphylactic reactions, with little attention to promoting social and emotional well-being. The aim of the study was to explore young adults' perspectives on everyday life with food allergy during their teenage years to improve future clinical practice.

Seasonal variation in BCG-induced trained immunity.

The Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine is a well-established inducer of innate immune memory (also termed trained immunity), causing increased cytokine production upon heterologous secondary stimulation. Innate immune responses are known to be influenced by season, but whether seasons impact induction of trained immunity is not known. To explore the influence of season on innate immune memory induced by the BCG vaccine, we vaccinated healthy volunteers with BCG either during winter or spring.

Detection of Interstitial Lung Disease in Rheumatoid Arthritis by Thoracic Ultrasound: A Diagnostic Test Accuracy Study.

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of thoracic ultrasound (TUS) for detecting interstitial lung disease (ILD) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with respiratory symptoms.

Methods: Individuals with RA visiting rheumatologic outpatient clinics in the Region of Southern Denmark were systematically screened for dyspnea, cough, recurrent pneumonia, prior severe pneumonia, or a chest x-ray indicating interstitial abnormalities. Eighty participants with a positive screening were consecutively included.

Discovering Subgroups of Children With High Mortality in Urban Guinea-Bissau: Exploratory and Validation Cohort Study.

Background: The decline in global child mortality is an important public health achievement, yet child mortality remains disproportionally high in many low-income countries like Guinea-Bissau. The persisting high mortality rates necessitate targeted research to identify vulnerable subgroups of children and formulate effective interventions.

Type 2 diabetes is a heterogeneous disease that can be subdivided on the basis of β-cell function and insulin sensitivity. We investigated the presence, incidence, and progression of diabetic retinopathy (DR) according to subtypes of type 2 diabetes. In a national cohort, we identified three subtypes of type 2 diabetes: classical, hyperinsulinemic, and insulinopenic type 2 diabetes, based on HOMA2 measurements.

There is a lack of knowledge regarding methotrexate (MTX) usage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and its possible links with gender, disease characterization and sexual functioning, loneliness, fatigue and depression. We, therefore, investigated the associations of gender with physical function, fatigue, depression, loneliness and sexual functioning with a particular focus on MTX usage. A cross-sectional study design was used.

Cost-effectiveness of proactive health support-telephone-based self-management support compared with standard care for persons at risk of hospital admission.

Background: A small share of patients account for a large proportion of costs to the healthcare system in Denmark as in many Western countries. A telephone-based self-management support, proactive health support (PaHS), was suggested for prevention of hospitalisations for persons at risk of hospital admission. These persons have chronic diseases, unplanned hospitalisations and age ≥ 65 years.
