Mid Regional pro-ADM (MR-proADM) is a promising novel biomarker in the evaluation of deteriorating patients and an emergent prognosis factor in patients with sepsis, septic shock and organ failure. It can be induced by bacteria, fungi or viruses. We hypothesized that the assessment of MR-proADM, with or without other inflammatory cytokines, as part of a clinical assessment of COVID-19 patients at hospital admission, may assist in identifying those likely to develop severe disease.

Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are widely used for haemodialysis (HD) in adults with stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD 5) and are generally considered the best form of vascular access (VA). The 'Fistula First' initiative in 2003 helped to change the culture of VA in adults. However, this cultural change has not yet been adopted in children despite the fact that a functioning AVF is associated with lower complication rates and longer access survival than a central venous line (CVL).

Steroid Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome (SRNS) in children and young adults has differing etiologies with monogenic disease accounting for 2.9-30% in selected series. Using whole exome sequencing we sought to stratify a national population of children with SRNS into monogenic and non-monogenic forms, and further define those groups by detailed phenotypic analysis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that develops as a result of the interaction between genetic and environmental risk factors. Studies to date have tended to concentrate on environmental influences around the time of disease onset.
