Introduction: Investigation of bone marrow (BM) trephine biopsies and/or clot sections by CD34 immunohistochemistry (IHC) testing has been used by pathologists for several decades, and its clinical value has been well established with QBEND10 being the most frequently used primary antibody (Ab) clone. However, most other parameters related to the IHC protocol as well as the readout vary widely between clinical laboratories and in the published literature. The ICSH Working Group having reviewed the published evidence has established guidelines that will help to harmonize performance and reporting of CD34 IHC on BM biopsies.

Although there is extensive literature on the impact of urban design on health, little is known about the barriers to integrating health into urban design policies. As cities increasingly lead efforts to improve health equity and population health, understanding the perspectives and experiences of municipal actors on health and equity is essential. To address this gap, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 30 stakeholders engaged with urban design policy- and decision-making at the City of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada.

New therapies are being developed for breast cancer, and in this process, some "old" biomarkers are reutilized and given a new purpose. It is not always recognized that by changing a biomarker's intended use, a new biomarker assay is created. The Ki-67 biomarker is typically assessed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) to provide a proliferative index in breast cancer.

Objective: Evaluate patient-reported outcomes after 6 months of on-label guselkumab use in patients with rheumatologist-diagnosed active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) enrolled in the CorEvitas PsA/Spondyloarthritis Registry.
Methods: This analysis includes registry participants who initiated and persisted with on-label guselkumab (after US Food and Drug Administration approval for PsA; 100 mg at weeks 0, 4, and every 8 weeks) at their 6-month follow-up visit (On-Label Persisters). Among patients not meeting response criteria at baseline, responses at 6 months were determined for patient-reported outcomes, including patient-reported pain (0-100 mm visual analog scale), patient global assessment of arthritis + psoriasis (PtGA; 0-100 visual analog scale), and Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index (HAQ-DI; 0-3).
Introduction: World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines recommend countries set quality plans for their health systems with clear priorities, indicators and targets. This paper examines whether Canada's federal, provincial and territorial governments are applying these principles.
Methods: We evaluated plans from 2010 to 2019 for 14 ministries of health and four health authorities in provinces with a single authority against a rubric that considered the existence of indicators, baselines, targets, time frames and progress reports.

Purpose: The goal of this study was to assess if caregivers' attitudes toward the regulatory process of approving the vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) for children aged <12 years changed after a vaccine was approved for adults.
Methods: This was a larger scale COVIPAS (COVID-19 Parental Attitude Study) survey of caregivers presenting with their children aged ≤12 years for emergency care in 12 hospitals in the United States, Canada, and Israel. The study compared willingness to support abridged research into COVID-19 vaccines for children between the peak of the pandemic (March-May 2020) and after a COVID-19 vaccine became available for adults (December 2020-March 2021).

Purpose Of Review: We review the issues, controversies, and main findings from the sexual violence risk assessment literature with Indigenous men. An argument is presented for the incorporation of structured and validated risk assessment measures as part of a comprehensive assessment to inform risk management and the prevention of sexual violence.
Recent Findings: Extant research demonstrates that Canadian Indigenous men convicted for sexual offenses tend to score higher on sexual violence risk measures and to have higher rates of sexual and violent recidivism.

Background: Physical activity (PA) patterns in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) over time are not well described. The aim of this study was to describe associations of physical activity (PA) with disease activity, function, pain, and psychosocial stress in the 2 years following diagnosis in an inception cohort of children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
Methods: In 82 children with newly diagnosed JIA, PA levels, prospectively determined at enrollment, 12 and 24 months using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children (PAQ-C) and Adolescents (PAQ-A) raw scores, were evaluated in relation to disease activity as reflected by arthritis activity (Juvenile Arthritis Disease Activity Score (JADAS-71)), function, pain, and psychosocial stresses using a linear mixed model approach.

The tyrosine receptor kinase (TRK) inhibitors larotrectinib and entrectinib were recently approved in Canada for the treatment of solid tumours harbouring neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase ( gene fusions. These gene fusions are oncogenic drivers found in most tumour types at a low frequency (<5%), and at a higher frequency (>80%) in a small number of rare tumours (e.g.

Background: More than 100 COVID-19 vaccine candidates are in development since the SARS-CoV-2 genetic sequence was published in January 2020. The uptake of a COVID-19 vaccine among children will be instrumental in limiting the spread of the disease as herd immunity may require vaccine coverage of up to 80% of the population. Prior history of pandemic vaccine coverage was as low as 40% among children in the United States during the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic.

We demonstrated that Fe/Cr doped and pH-modified CeO nanoparticles (NPs) exhibit enhanced photocatalytic performance as compared to bare CeO NPs, using photocatalytic degradation. To assess the toxicity level of these double-modified CeO NPs on the human skin, they were introduced into HaCaT cells. The results of our conventional cellular toxicity assays (neutral red uptake and 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide for assays) indicated that Cr@CeO NPs prompt severe negative effects on the viability of human cells.

As the incidence of traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI) in the elderly rises, clinicians are increasingly faced with difficult discussions regarding aggressiveness of management, likelihood of recovery, and survival. Our objective was to outline risk factors associated with in-hospital mortality in elderly surgical and non-surgical patients following tSCI and to determine those unlikely to have a favorable outcome. Data from elderly patients (≥ 65 years of age) in the Canadian Rick Hansen SCI Registry from 2004 to 2017 were analyzed using descriptive analysis.

As a representative transition metal, iron plays a key role in chemical activities of atmospheric particulate matter (PM), being involved in particle-related free radical generation and adverse health effects. However, limited understanding of the structure and properties of individual micrometer-sized particulates obscures investigating the contributions of iron toward chemical activities. Here, we describe multidimensional analytical strategies to characterize the mass, spatial distribution, and chemical forms of iron in single haze particles using synchrotron radiation techniques.

The ros1 kinase is an oncogenic driver in non-small-cell lung cancer (nsclc). Fusion events involving the gene are found in 1%-2% of nsclc patients and lead to deregulation of a tyrosine kinase-mediated multi-use intracellular signalling pathway, which then promotes the growth, proliferation, and progression of tumour cells. fusion is a distinct molecular subtype of nsclc, found independently of other recognized driver mutations, and it is predominantly identified in younger patients (<50 years of age), women, never-smokers, and patients with adenocarcinoma histology.

Objective: Individuals with deficiency of adenosine deaminase 2 (DADA2), a recently recognized autosomal recessive disease, present with various systemic vascular and inflammatory manifestations, often with young age at disease onset or with early onset of recurrent strokes. Their clinical features and histologic findings overlap with those of childhood-onset polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), a primary "idiopathic" systemic vasculitis. Despite similar clinical presentation, individuals with DADA2 may respond better to biologic therapy than to traditional immunosuppression.
