Symptom Monitoring App Use Associated With Medication Adherence Among Woman Survivors of Breast Cancer on Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy.

Purpose: Oral adjuvant endocrine therapy (AET) reduces the risk of cancer recurrence and death for women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer. Because of adverse symptoms and socioecologic barriers, AET adherence rates are low. We conducted post hoc analyses of a randomized trial of a remote symptom and adherence monitoring app to evaluate characteristics associated with higher app use, satisfaction, and how app use was associated with AET adherence.

Resolution of Angiographic Macular Leakage with Faricimab versus Aflibercept in Patients with Diabetic Macular Edema in YOSEMITE/RHINE.

Purpose: To evaluate if dual angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2)/VEGF-A inhibition with faricimab resulted in greater macular leakage resolution versus aflibercept in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME).

Design: Post hoc analysis of macular leakage assessments prespecified in the YOSEMITE/RHINE (NCT03622580/NCT03622593) phase III trials.

Participants: Adults with visual acuity loss due to center-involving DME.

Bispecific VEGF-A and Angiopoietin-2 Antagonist RO-101 Preclinical Efficacy in Model of Neovascular Eye Disease.

Objective: To investigate preclinical data regarding the efficacy and biocompatibility of a bispecific protein, RO-101, with effects on VEGF-A and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) for use in retinal diseases.

Design: Experimental study.

Subjects: Brown Norway rats and New Zealand White Cross rabbits.

Comparative assessment of subretinal hyper-reflective material in patients treated with brolucizumab versus aflibercept in HAWK and HARRIER.

Purpose: Post hoc analysis of the phase III HAWK and HARRIER studies to compare the reductions in subretinal hyper-reflective material (SHRM) thickness following brolucizumab 6 mg or aflibercept 2 mg treatment and to assess SHRM thickness and thickness variability as a potential biomarker of visual outcomes in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).

Methods: Optical coherence tomography images from the brolucizumab (n=700) and aflibercept (n=696) arms were analysed for the maximum SHRM thickness across the macula over 96 weeks. In a pooled treatment-agnostic analysis, the effect of week 12 SHRM thickness and SHRM thickness variability on best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) through week 96 were also assessed.

Salinity and pH effects on survival, growth, and reproduction of quagga mussels.

Background: In recent decades, invasive quagga mussels have expanded to the Western United States from the Great Lakes region of North America. Most studies that evaluate the invasion potential of quagga mussels in western water bodies have utilized physiological and life history information from zebra mussels, a related taxon. Few studies have assessed the potential for invasion using specific information from quagga mussel life history or experiments that test for their survival in the fresh and saline waters of the western United States.

Argonaute, Vault, and Ribosomal Proteins Targeted by Autoantibodies in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Objective: To expand, in an unbiased manner, our knowledge of autoantigens and autoantibodies in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and evaluate their associations with serological and clinical variables.

Methods: Human proteome arrays (> 21,000 proteins) were screened with serum from patients with SLE (n = 12) and healthy controls (n = 6) for IgG and IgA binding. Top hits were validated with 2 cohorts of patients with SLE (cohort 1, n = 49; cohort 2, n = 46) and other rheumatic diseases by ELISA.

Real-World nivolumab dosing patterns and safety outcomes in patients receiving adjuvant therapy for melanoma.

Background: Nivolumab at a dose of 480 mg every 4 weeks (Q4W) is approved for the adjuvant treatment of melanoma. However, real-world data on this regimen are limited in this setting.

Methods: This retrospective observational study utilized data from the US Oncology Network iKnowMed electronic health record database and patient medical charts.

Cooling Anesthesia for Intravitreal Injection: Results of the Prospective Open-Label, Dose-Ranging COOL-1 Trial.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a novel medical device to provide cooling anesthesia to the eye as local anesthesia for intravitreal injections.

Study Design: First in human, open-label study of 43 subjects assessed at three different doses: -10°C for 20 seconds (group 1), -15°C for 15 seconds (group 2), and -15°C for 20 seconds (group 3). Main outcome measures were safety and pain of injection using a numeric rating scale (NRS).

A 24-week double-blind placebo-controlled study of the efficacy and safety of the AMPA modulator S47445 in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease and depressive symptoms.

Introduction: S47445 is a novel positive allosteric modulator of alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionic acid receptors that may emerge as a favorable candidate for the symptomatic treatment of cognitive and depressive disorders in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease (AD) of mild to moderate severity and with depressive symptoms.

Methods: For this double-blind, placebo-controlled 24-week phase II trial, 520 outpatients aged between 55 and 85 years, with probable AD at mild to moderate stages (a Mini-Mental State Examination score of 24-15 inclusive) and exhibiting depressive symptoms (Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia [CSDD] ≥ 8) were recruited in twelve countries and randomized to 3 doses of S47445 (5-15-50 mg) or placebo. The primary end point was the change from baseline in the 11-item Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive subscale (ADAS-Cog) total score at week 24.

PF-06647263, a novel antibody-drug conjugate consisting of an anti-EFNA4 antibody linked to a calicheamicin payload, has shown potent antitumor activity in human xenograft tumor models, including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). In the dose-escalation part 1 of this multicenter, open-label, phase I study (NCT02078752), successive cohorts of patients (n, 48) with advanced solid tumors and no available standard therapy received PF-06647263 every 3 weeks (Q3W) or every week (QW), following a modified toxicity probability interval (mTPI) method (initial dosing: 0.015 mg/kg Q3W).

Scholarly culture: How books in adolescence enhance adult literacy, numeracy and technology skills in 31 societies.

A growing body of evidence supports the contention of scholarly culture theory that immersing children in book-oriented environments benefits their later educational achievement, attainment and occupational standing. These findings have been interpreted as suggesting that book-oriented socialization, indicated by home library size, equips youth with life-long tastes, skills and knowledge. However, to date, this has not been directly assessed.

Development and Validation of Simulation-Based Procedural Checklists for Evaluation of Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Performance.

Background: Neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) procedural competence is essential. Procedural simulation provides opportunity to practice high-risk, low-frequency procedures and helps improve skill retention. A formal procedural simulation experience was created in an attempt to provide sufficient experience for NNPs.

2015 American College of Rheumatology Workforce Study: The Role of Graduate Medical Education in Adult Rheumatology.

Objective: Graduate medical education (GME), through fellowship training, plays a critical role in preparing new rheumatologists for our workforce and is an essential component when addressing the gap of excess demand for adult rheumatology care. This study was undertaken to assess the demographic characteristics and employment trends of new entrants entering the rheumatology workforce and the impact this will have on the supply of rheumatologits over the next 15 years.

Methods: Primary and secondary data sources were used to develop an integrated workforce model.

Societal Inequality and individual subjective well-being: Results from 68 societies and over 200,000 individuals, 1981-2008.

Income inequality has been contentious for millennia, a source of political conflict for centuries, and is now widely feared as a pernicious "side effect" of economic progress. But equality is only a means to an end and so must be evaluated by its consequences. The fundamental question is: What effect does a country's level of income inequality have on its citizens' quality of life, their subjective well-being? We show that in developing nations inequality is certainly not harmful but probably beneficial, increasing well-being by about 8 points out of 100.

Plutonium segregation in glassy aerodynamic fallout from a nuclear weapon test.

This study combines electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy to probe major element composition and autoradiography to map plutonium in order to examine the spatial relationships between plutonium and fallout composition in aerodynamic glassy fallout from a nuclear weapon test. A sample set of 48 individual fallout specimens were interrogated to reveal that the significant chemical heterogeneity of this sample set could be described compositionally with a relatively small number of compositional endmembers. Furthermore, high concentrations of plutonium were never associated with several endmember compositions and concentrated with the so-called mafic glass endmember.

Impact of Hospital-Employed Physician Assistants on a Level II Community-Based Orthopaedic Trauma System.

Objectives: The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Orthopedic Trauma Association have released guidelines for the provision of orthopedic trauma services such as adequate stipends, designated operating rooms, ancillary staff, and guaranteed reimbursement for indigent care. One recommendation included a provision for hospital-based physician assistants (PAs). Given current reimbursement arrangements, PA collections for billable services may not meet their salary and benefit expenses.

Operating Room Efficiency: Benefits of an Orthopaedic Traumatologist at a Level II Trauma Center.

Objectives: Fellowship-trained orthopaedic traumatologists are presumably taught skill sets leading to "best practice" outcomes and more efficient use of hospital resources. This should result in more favorable economic opportunities when compared with general orthopaedic surgeons (GOSs) providing similar clinical services. The purpose of our study was to compare the operating room utilization and financial data of traumatologists versus GOSs at a level II trauma center.

Heterogeneity of anatomic regions by MR volumetry in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.

Objective: To investigate brain volumes in patients with well-characterized juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME).

Materials And Methods: We studied the MRI images of seventeen subjects with EEG and clinically defined JME and seventeen age- and sex-matched controls using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and automated and manual volumetry.

Results: We found no significant group differences in the cortical volumes by automated techniques for all regions or for the whole brain.
