This White Paper addresses the current gaps in knowledge, as well as opportunities for future studies in pediatric sleep. The Sleep Research Society's Pipeline Development Committee assembled a panel of experts tasked to provide information to those interested in learning more about the field of pediatric sleep, including trainees. We cover the scope of pediatric sleep, including epidemiological studies and the development of sleep and circadian rhythms in early childhood and adolescence.

Background: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) may be underdiagnosed in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) due to difficulty expressing the symptoms in their own words. In addition, administration of oral iron may be particularly difficult in children with ASD.

Methods: This was a retrospective, open-label case series of children with ASD, restless legs (RL) symptoms, and serum ferritin <30 μg/L, who either had failed or did not tolerate oral iron, and were subsequently treated with intravenous (IV) ferric carboxymaltose (FCM).

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening immunological disease responsible for 1 to 2% of all deaths in 65 year old or older individuals. Although mononuclear cell infiltrates have been demonstrated in AAA lesions and autoimmunity may be responsible for the initiation and account for the propagation of the disease, the information available about the pathogenesis of AAA is limited. To examine whether AAA lesions from patients with AAA contain clonally expanded α-chain TCR transcripts, we amplified by the non-palindromic adaptor-PCR (NPA-PCR)/Vα-specific PCR and/or the Vα-specific PCR these α-chain TCR transcripts.

Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, Baltimore, MD, USA; Department of Preventive Cardiology, CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL, and University of Illinois School of Medicine, Peoria, IL, USA. Electronic address:

High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is astonishingly complex, but the de facto standard for its measurement has been remarkably simple: total cholesterol content. It is time to prioritize higher-resolution HDL measurement techniques that capture better the biologically and clinically important characteristics of HDL. Scientific advances have ushered in a new era in which we view HDL in terms of its subfractions, particle structure, metabolism, and functional integration of its proteome and lipidome.
