Background Avascular necrosis (AVN) is characterized by bone death due to impaired blood supply leading to its collapse causing pain and suboptimal joint function. The blood supply of the femoral head is so tenuous that even a slight vascular injury can predispose to AVN. Hence, AVN is commonly seen in the femoral head.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the frequency and clinicopathologic correlates of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2)/neu and betacatenin (BC) oncoproteins in gastric adenocarcinoma and to seek correlation if any between their expression status.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional analytical immunohistochemistry (IHC) study was performed on 50 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma. HER-2/neu immunoexpression was scored as per criteria by Ruschoff et al.

Background & Objectives: There is a paucity of data regarding immunogenicity of recently introduced measles-rubella (MR) vaccine in Indian children, in which the first dose is administered below one year of age. This study was undertaken to assess the immunogenicity against rubella and measles 4-6 wk after one and two doses of MR vaccine administered under India's Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).

Methods: In this longitudinal study, 100 consecutive healthy infants (9-12 months) of either gender attending the immunization clinic of a tertiary care government hospital affiliated to a medical college of Delhi for the first dose of routine MR vaccination were enrolled.

Emerging hypotheses in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder (MDD) suggest important role of neurotrophic factors and oxidative stress. This study assessed the effect of milnacipran (a dual serotonin‑noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor) on brain‑derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and oxidative stress biomarkers i.e.

Background The diverse manifestations of urolithiasis provide very interesting epidemiological data. This has prompted various studies to look into the etiopathogenesis of renal stones, which is believed to be multifactorial, both exogenous and endogenous. VDR Fok1 is a risk factor for renal stone formation and could cause the formation of renal stones through the mechanism of crystal induction and crystallization in the urine.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed blood samples from 60 neonates with seizures, split into 30 who responded to phenobarbitone and 30 who did not.
  • Researchers used quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction to measure CYP2B6 gene expression in these samples.
  • Results showed that CYP2B6 expression was significantly lower in non-responders compared to responders, indicating a potential link between lower CYP2B6 levels and poor response to the medication (P<0.001).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the relationship between maternal serum vitamin E levels and oxidative stress markers in cases of preterm premature rupture of membranes (pPROM), finding no evidence of vitamin E deficiency in these cases.
  • - It involved a comparison of 40 pPROM cases with 40 controls, measuring vitamin E levels and assessing oxidative stress through telomere length and mtDNA copy number in cord blood.
  • - Results indicated that while pPROM cases had longer telomeres and higher mtDNA copy numbers, these findings were not significant, suggesting no substantial oxidative stress related to pPROM.

Background: Cholinesterase inhibitors, such as neostigmine and edrophonium, commonly used to reverse the residual effects of nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking drugs at the end of surgery are associated with a high rate of residual neuromuscular blockade (NMB). Due to its direct mechanism of action, sugammadex is associated with rapid and predictable reversal of deep NMB. The current analysis compares the clinical efficacy and risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) on using sugammadex or neostigmine for routine NMB reversal in adult and pediatric populations.

Article Synopsis
  • Amyloidosis is a complex disorder where abnormal proteins deposit in tissues, disrupting normal organ function, and localized amyloidosis is rare, mainly affecting the head-and-neck region, with only 4% in the orbit.
  • Conjunctival amyloidosis is a particularly rare form, often linked to local immunologic issues, and usually appears without systemic symptoms.
  • This text presents two cases of unilateral conjunctival amyloidosis, highlights the importance of including it in the differential diagnosis of conjunctival tumors, and emphasizes that histopathological exams with Congo red stain are crucial for accurate diagnosis.
