Background: Return to work (RTW) is an important outcome indicator for the effectiveness of rehabilitation services, and the functional status and overall recovery among individuals who have experienced injury. Despite the rising incidence of traumatic injury among economically productive citizens in Ethiopia, there is a paucity of evidence about the RTW status of injury survivors. This study examined factors associated with RTW success and determinants of time to RTW after injury in Ethiopia.

Background: Chest X-ray has been included in national tuberculosis screening algorithms as a sensitive tuberculosis screening tool among high-risk groups. However, the implementation was influenced by multiple factors. We aimed to explore facilitators and barriers to implementing chest X-ray in systematic tuberculosis screening of clinically high-risk groups in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Purpose: Intensive care units (ICUs) in low- and middle-income countries have high mortality rates, and clinical data are needed to guide quality improvement (QI) efforts. This study utilizes data from a validated ICU registry specially developed for resource-limited settings to identify evidence-based QI priorities for ICUs in Ethiopia.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis of data from two tertiary referral hospital ICUs in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from July 2021-June 2022 was conducted to describe casemix, complications and outcomes and identify features associated with ICU mortality.

Purpose: Resistance of pathogenic strains of to β-lactams, particularly to ampicillin, is on the rise and it is attributed to intrinsic and acquired mechanisms. One important factor contributing to resistance, together with primarily resistance mechanisms, is a mutation and/or an over-expression of the intrinsic efflux pumps in the resistance-nodulation-division (RND) superfamily. Among these efflux pumps, AcrA, AcrB, TolC, and AcrD play an important role in antimicrobial co-resistance, including resistance to β-lactams.

Sinonasal organizing hematomas (SOH) are rare, benign lesions that can be mistaken for malignancies due to their unfamiliarity among clinicians and aggressive appearance on imaging, which can lead to aggressive and unnecessary therapeutic interventions. Herein, we report an unusual case of SOH in an 87-year-old female patient who sought care at a maxillofacial surgery service due to persistent right nasal obstruction and imaging findings that suggested the possibility of sinonasal malignancy. We highlight the importance of recognizing these lesions to ensure adequate treatment through a conservative approach.

Data on patterns of intensive care unit (ICU) admission including age, and severity of illness is essential in developing better strategies for resource allocation to improve outcomes. A 2-year cross-sectional study of 268 patients using a systematic random sampling and structured questionnaire obtained from the database was conducted with the aim of examining patterns of admission among patients admitted to the ICU of Addis Ababa burn emergency and trauma (AaBET) hospital. Data were entered into Epi-Info version 3.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare condition characterized by the development of aseptic, non-healing skin ulcers. Any skin trauma, such as a surgical incision, can trigger an outbreak of lesions. Our case and literature review show that a physician should consider PG in every event of a non-healing, aseptic wound after surgery.

Background: Metaphyseal fracture healing in the distal femur requires a stable biomechanical environment. The presence of arthritis-induced coronal-plane knee deformities can cause deviation of the mechanical axis, which results in asymmetric loading and increased bending forces in fractures of the distal femur metaphysis. This predisposes patients to nonunions or loss of fixation.

A highly porous scaffold is a desirable outcome in the field of tissue engineering. The porous structure mediates water-retaining properties that ensure good nutrient transportation as well as creates a suitable environment for cells. In this study, porous antibacterial collagenous scaffolds containing chitosan and selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) as antibacterial agents were studied.

An inexorable switch from antibiotics has become a major desideratum to overcome antibiotic resistance. Bacteriocin from , a cardinal probiotic was used to design novel antibacterial peptides named as Probiotic Bacteriocin Derived and Modified (PBDM) peptides (PBDM1: YKWFAHLIKGLC and PBDM2: YKWFRHLIKKLC). The loop-shaped 3D structure of peptides was characterized via molecular dynamics simulation as well as biophysically via spectroscopic methods.

The principal objective of this present study was to compare the effects of different acupuncture methods on pain, stiffness, and physical function for osteoarthritis of the knee by the pairwise and network meta-analysis (NMA). A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was searched from three English databases and one Chinese database until January 2018. A pairwise meta-analysis was performed with a random effects model.
