The Utility of the Radiocapitellar View in Pediatric Medial Epicondyle Fracture Evaluation.

Background: Anteroposterior (AP) and lateral radiographs often underestimate displacement in medial epicondyle fractures, further complicating the already debated operative indications. The radiocapitellar (RC) view is an alternative radiograph that allows for the separation of the humeroradial and humeroulnar joints. This study investigates the utility of the RC view in measuring displacement and identifying the need for operative intervention in pediatric medial epicondyle fractures.

Redo mitral valve replacement with annular reconstruction of left atrial dissection following mitral valve replacement for infective endocarditis: a case report.

Background: Left atrial dissection is a rare and occasionally fatal complication of cardiac surgery and is defined as the creation of a false chamber through a tear in the mitral valve annulus extending into the left atrial wall. Some patients are asymptomatic, while others present with various symptoms, such as chest pain, dyspnea, and even cardiac arrest. Although there is no established management for left atrial dissection, surgery should be considered in patients with hemodynamic disruption.

Transcatheter edge to edge compared with surgery in older patients with degenerative mitral valve regurgitation.

Objectives: Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) is an alternative for patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR). The objective of this study was to compare the outcomes of surgery and TEER in older patients with degenerative MR patients using real life data.

Methods: Consecutives older patients (≥ 65 years-old), with severe symptomatic, degenerative MR requiring surgery or TEER between 2013 and 2023 were included.

Meta-analysis of the efficacy of lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty in the treatment of isolated lateral compartment knee osteoarthritis.

Objectives: To systematically evaluate the efficacy of lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (LUKA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the treatment of isolated lateral compartment knee osteoarthritis (LCKO), and to provide guidance and a basis for selecting surgery in clinical practice.

Methods: Inclusion and exclusion criteria for literature were established, appropriate effect indicators were selected, and PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Medline, Cochrane Library, and CNKI databases were searched using a computer. The Newcastle Ottawa scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the quality of the literature.

Cardiovascular safety of 5-fluorouracil and capecitabine in colorectal cancer patients: real-world evidence.

Background: Fluoropyrimidines, including 5-fluorouracil and capecitabine, are the most common chemotherapeutic agents for colorectal carcinoma. Although previous studies have suggested varying degrees of cardiotoxicity with these drugs, there is a notable lack of large-scale investigations with appropriate control groups. This study aimed to evaluate cardiovascular outcome among colorectal carcinoma patients treated with fluoropyrimidines.

Two-stage revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction reduces failure risk but leads to lesser clinical outcomes than single-stage revision after primary anterior cruciate ligament graft failure: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: There are no studies that compare the outcomes and complications of single-versus two-stage revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) after primary ACLR failure. This purpose of this study is to examine clinical and functional outcomes and complications associated with single and two-stage revision ACLR after primary ACLR failure.

Methods: All patients who underwent single or two-stage revision ACLR after primary ACLR failure between 2012 and 2021 with a minimum of a 2 year follow-up were included.

TFE3-rearranged perivascular epithelioid cell tumors of the head and neck with rare fusion partners: clues to the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant tumors.

Background: Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) rarely appear in the head and neck region. This case report describes two transcription factor E3 (TFE3)-rearranged PEComa cases, consisting of one in the orbit and one in the nasal cavity.

Case Presentation: Both cases demonstrated sheet-like or focal nested architecture and comprised epithelioid cells with abundant clear to eosinophilic cytoplasm and vascular stroma.

Evaluating catastrophic health expenditures among patients with long bone fractures in Ghana's major teaching hospitals: a hospital-based analysis.

Background: In low and middle-income countries like Ghana, out-of-pocket (OOP) payments remain a significant barrier to healthcare access, often leading to catastrophic health expenditures (CHE). This study evaluates the incidence of CHE among patients treated for long bone fractures at Ghana's major teaching hospitals, providing insight into the economic burdens faced by these patients.

Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed data from 2,980 patients with long bone fractures treated at four major teaching hospitals in Ghana from July 2017 to July 2020.

Liver transplantation for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: a retrospective analysis from Chinese experience.

Background: Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HoFH) increases risk of premature cardiovascular events and cardiac death. In severe cases of HoFH, clinical signs and symptoms cannot be controlled well by non-surgical treatments, liver transplantation (LT) currently represents the viable option.

Method: To assess the clinical efficacy, prognosis, and optimal timing of LT for HoFH, a retrospective analysis was conducted on the preoperative, surgical conditions, and postoperative follow-up of children who received an LT for HoFH at the Beijing Friendship Hospital over the period from December 2014 to August 2022.

Ascending aorta dilatation for pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect: a report of three adult cases.

Background: Patients with pulmonary atresia and ventricular septal defect (PA/VSD) are prone to progressive aortic dilation. However, there are relatively few reports of progressive development of aortic aneurysm or aortic dissection in adult patients who missed early corrective surgery.

Medium- to long-term functional outcomes of artcure diffusional patch therapy for lumbar disc herniation: which herniation is more likely to require surgery?

Background: Artcure diffusional patch (ADP) is a novel transdermal therapeutic system that started to be used in the last decade for lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Previous studies have reported early results of the therapy. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the medium- to long-term functional outcomes of this treatment in LDH patients and examine factors predicting the need for surgery after treatment.

Signatures of H3K4me3 modification predict cancer immunotherapy response and identify a new immune checkpoint-SLAMF9.

H3 lysine 4 trimethylation (H3K4me3) modification and related regulators extensively regulate various crucial transcriptional courses in health and disease. However, the regulatory relationship between H3K4me3 modification and anti-tumor immunity has not been fully elucidated. We identified 72 independent prognostic genes of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) whose transcriptional expression were closely correlated with known 27 H3K4me3 regulators.

PD-L1 positive platelets mediate resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors in patients with colorectal cancer.

Background: Programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression on immune cells is correlated with the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy in various types of cancer. Platelets are important components of the tumour microenvironment (TME) and are widely involved in the development of many types of cancer including colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the role of PD-L1 positive platelets in ICI therapy for CRC remains unknown.

Temporal changes of tibial eminence after bi-cruciate retaining total knee arthroplasty.

Background: Bicruciate-retaining (BCR) prostheses have been introduced to recreate normal knee movements by preserving both the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. One of the surgical procedures essential to the success of BCR total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is preservation of the tibial eminence. However, in our clinical experience, we found that a well-preserved tibial eminence changed its shape chronologically after the operation.

Urban and rural residence: their influence on food group consumption in Iran.

Background: Urbanization is expanding in Iran, leading to the emergence of three distinct socio-geographical areas: urban, rural, and suburban areas. These different areas may exhibit significant variations in dietary patterns. This study investigates the association between people's place of residence and their consumption of different food groups.

Parents' views and experiences of raising babies born with cleft lip and palate: a qualitative study.

Background: Parents of children born with cleft lip/palate encounter numerous challenges. This study aims to provide a deeper understanding for authorities to better support these parents by exploring the views and experiences of Iranian parents raising babies with cleft lip/palate through qualitative research.

Methods: This qualitative study collected data through face-to-face, in-depth, semi-structured interviews.

Background: Cervical cancer is the most prevalent cancer in Mozambique, with endocervical adenocarcinoma accounting for approximately 5.5% of cases. Knowledge regarding the most prevalent HPV genotypes in endocervical adenocarcinoma is limited, within this setting.

Preferences for public health insurance coverage of new anticancer drugs: a discrete choice experiment among non-small cell lung cancer patients in China.

Background: Ensuring equal access to affordable, high-quality, and satisfied healthcare for cancer patients is a challenge worldwide. Our study aimed to investigate preferences for public health insurance coverage of new anticancer drugs among non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in China.

Methods: We identified six attributes of new anticancer drugs and adopted a Bayesian-efficient design to generate choice scenarios for a discrete choice experiment (DCE).

The predictive role of tertiary lymphoid structures in the prognosis and response to immunotherapy of lung cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: There is still no consensus regarding the correlation between TLS and the prognosis of lung cancer patients. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between TLS and prognosis in patients with lung cancer. In addition, the prognostic value of TLS for the efficacy of immunotherapy was also studied.

Congenital urethral diverticulum with a large stone in a 16-year-old male: a case report.

Background: Urethral diverticulum is a sac-like dilation that extends from the urethral lumen and is connected to it. It can either be congenital or acquired, with the latter being more common. The development of calculi is rare in such patients.

Dyadic effects of illness perception and maladaptive cognitive-emotional regulation strategies on the fear of cancer recurrence in breast cancer patients and spouses: an actor-partner interdependence mediation model.

Purpose: Breast cancer, as a stressful event, profoundly impacts the entire family, especially patients and their spouses. This study used a dyadic analysis approach to explore the dyadic effects of illness perception on the fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) and whether maladaptive cognitive-emotional regulation strategies acted as a mediator in breast cancer patient-spouse dyads.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study, and 202 dyads of breast cancer patients and their spouses were enrolled.

TOM40 as a prognostic oncogene for oral squamous cell carcinoma prognosis.

Background: To investigate the role of the translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane 40 (TOM40) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) with the aim of identifying new biomarkers or potential therapeutic targets.

Methods: TOM40 expression level in OSCC was evaluated using datasets downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), as well as clinical data. The correlation between TOM40 expression level and the clinicopathological parameters and survival were analyzed in TCGA.

Treatment of posterolateral tibial plateau fractures through the articular line approach.

Background: Posterolateral tibial plateau fractures pose significant challenges for orthopedic surgeons due to the anatomical risks associated with the posterolateral approach. Despite numerous surgical techniques available, there lacks a consensus on the optimal approach.

Methods: Articular line incision approach was employed on 12 patients suffering from posterolateral tibial plateau fractures.

A conceptual model for advanced/metastatic gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer: a review of qualitative studies and results from patient interviews.

Background: Despite approvals of new first-line immunotherapies for advanced/metastatic gastric cancer/gastroesophageal junction cancer (aGC/GEJC), patients' median survival is around 14 months and their health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is affected by disease-related symptoms and treatment-related side effects. Using a targeted literature review (TLR) and patient interviews, this study identified disease- and treatment-related concepts that are important to patients with aGC/GEJC and their HRQoL.

Methods: A TLR was conducted to identify primary qualitative studies from 2018 to 2021 on patients' experiences with aGC/GEJC.
