Our goal was to examine the clinical utility of psychological screening measures to identify children with such problems in medical settings. Caregivers completed screening measures assessing social-emotional problems, ADHD symptoms, executive dysfunction, and health-related quality of life for children with SCD (receiving either chronic blood transfusion or hydroxyurea) and their siblings.

Given that executive abilities are typically impaired in individuals with SCD, they were the focus of the current study. Our primary hypothesis was that executive abilities would be higher acutely soon after a blood transfusion in children and young adults with SCD.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is indicated in various nonmalignant disorders that arise from genetic, hematopoietic, and immune system defects. Many of the disorders described here have life-threatening consequences in the absence of HSCT, a curative intervention. However, timing and approach to HSCT vary by disorder and optimum results are achieved by performing transplantation before irreversible disease-related morbidity or infectious complications.

After describing the neonatologist transitions, we estimated associations between these transitions and selected short-term patient outcomes using multivariable Poisson, logistic, and linear regression analyses, independent of length of stay (LOS) and case-mix.

Purpose: We describe the frequency and timing of withdrawal of life-support (WLS) in moderate or severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and examine its associations with medical and sociodemographic factors.

Procedures: We undertook a secondary data analysis of a prospective multicenter data registry of regional level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Units participating in the Children's Hospitals Neonatal Database. Infants ≥36 weeks gestational age with HIE admitted to a Children's Hospitals Neonatal Database Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between 2010 and 2016, who underwent therapeutic hypothermia were categorized as (1) infants who died following WLST and (2) survivors with severe HIE (requiring tube feedings at discharge).
