Introduction: There has been significant development in blood-based biomarkers targeting amyloidopathy of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the guidelines for integrating such biomarkers into AD diagnosis are still inadequate. Multimer Detection System-Oligomeric Amyloid-β (MDS-OAβ) as a plasma biomarker detecting oligomerization tendency is available in the clinical practice.

Background: Many factors associated with chronic low back pain (CLBP) have been proposed, including individual, psychosocial, and physical factors. However, these associated factors are still controversial.
Purpose: (1) To determine the prevalence of CLBP and (2) to analyze factors associated with CLBP in the general population using a nationally representative sample of South Koreans.

Purpose: The CaO-SiO2-P2O5-B2O3 glass-ceramic (BGS-7) spacer is a recently developed spacer that shows chemical bonding to bone with high mechanical stability. Further, this spacer achieves similar results to those of titanium cages. However, evidence regarding the advantages of the BGS-7 spacer is weak compared to polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cage.

The Korean Society for Electrolyte and Blood Pressure Research, in collaboration with the Korean Society of Nephrology, has published a clinical practice guideline (CPG) document for hyponatremia treatment. The document is based on an extensive evidence-based review of the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of hyponatremia with the multidisciplinary participation of representative experts in hyponatremia with methodologist support for guideline development. This CPG consists of 12 recommendations (two for diagnosis, eight for treatment, and two for special situations) based on eight detailed topics and nine key questions.

A reduction in the unnecessary use of antibiotic prophylaxis can prevent antibiotic resistance and adverse drug events. We aimed to evaluate the effects of implementing clinical pathways (CPs) on adherence to a systematic and appropriate duration of antibiotic prophylaxis. We identified 61 eligible CPs and a total of 44,062 patients who underwent elective surgeries associated with CPs.

A retrospective observational study The purpose of this study was to characterize the learning curve for a single level unilateral laminectomy and bilateral decompression in lumbar spinal stenosis using a learning curve cumulative summation test. Unilateral laminectomy and bilateral decompression for lumbar spinal stenosis proposes a potential benefit with minimizing surgery-related instability compared to traditional bilateral laminectomy, by preserving posterior stabilizing structures and contralateral facet joint and neural arch. Due to a narrow surgical corridor, it is considered to exhibit a steep learning curve as other types of minimally invasive procedures.

The aim of this clinical trial was to assess the efficacy and safety of low-dose triple combinations of amlodipine, telmisartan, and chlorthalidone in patients with essential hypertension. After a 2-week placebo run-in period, 176 patients were randomized to seven treatment groups (placebo, quarter-dose combination, third-dose combination, half-dose combination, amlodipine 5 mg, amlodipine 10 mg, and telmisartan 80 mg) and administered the assigned study drug orally for 8 weeks. The primary efficacy endpoint was the change in the mean sitting systolic blood pressure (BP) (MSSBP) at Week 8.

Background: Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) has been widely used as an alternative bone graft in spine fusion surgery. However, clinical outcome such as effects and complications has not yet been revealed for transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). Although previous studies have reported some results, the evidence is weak.

Objective: Changes in the thoracolumbar angle (TLA) would play a pivotal role in the reciprocal changes following spine realignment surgery, thereby leading to the development of proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK). This study aimed to investigate the association between TLA and the development of PJK following adult spinal deformity surgery.
Methods: A total of 107 patients were divided into PJK+ and PJK- groups according to the development of PJK within 12 months after surgery.

An innovative foam formulation for the fixed-dose combination of calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate (Cal/BD) has recently become available for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. Observational studies of patients treated with Cal/BD foam in routine practice have been conducted in several Western countries, but there are limited data on outcomes in Asian patients. We performed a prospective, open-label, noncomparative, noninterventional study to investigate treatment outcomes and satisfaction in adult patients receiving Cal/BD foam for psoriasis vulgaris in dermatological centers and outpatient clinics in Korea.

To investigate an association of serum liver enzymes with Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis and cognitive performance, we performed logistic and linear regression analyses in 781 patients with AD and 405 cognitively normal subjects. We found that alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels had significant positive associations with cognitive performance and were significantly decreased in AD patients. The alkaline phosphatase level and AST to ALT ratio were significantly negatively associated with cognitive performance and were significantly increased in AD patients.

A standardized lymphedema grading system is a prerequisite for accurately and objectively evaluating its severity, both preoperatively and postoperatively. The purpose of this study was to establish a clinically feasible noncontrast magnetic resonance lymphangiography (NMRL) protocol and a standardized scoring system for the evaluation of lymphedema. From January 2020 to February 2021, 39 patients who had been clinically diagnosed with lymphedema and had undergone NMRL were included.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a chronic condition that affects nearly one billion people globally, characterized by triacylglycerol accumulation in the liver as a consequence of metabolic abnormalities (obesity and impaired glucose regulation). Low-grade inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and dysbiosis in gut microbiota are involved in the etiology of MAFLD, and both cardiovascular events and hepatic complications are the long-term consequences. In the absence of approved therapies for this condition, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT-2 Is) and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have the specific advantage of lowering body weight and providing cardiovascular benefits.

Background: Trastuzumab emtansine is the current standard treatment for patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive metastatic breast cancer whose disease progresses after treatment with a combination of anti-HER2 antibodies and a taxane.
Methods: We conducted a phase 3, multicenter, open-label, randomized trial to compare the efficacy and safety of trastuzumab deruxtecan (a HER2 antibody-drug conjugate) with those of trastuzumab emtansine in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer previously treated with trastuzumab and a taxane. The primary end point was progression-free survival (as determined by blinded independent central review); secondary end points included overall survival, objective response, and safety.

The prevalence of diabetes and obesity continues to rise in East Asia. As the risk of diabetes increases at a lower body mass index (BMI) in East Asians than in Europeans, the threshold of BMI values for metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is lower in East Asians. MBS is considered upon reaching a BMI of 27.
