Purpose: We examined associations between device-assessed and parent-reported physical activity with mental health indicators among children and youth with disabilities.

Method: Physical activity and mental health data were collected from a larger national surveillance study of physical activity in children and youth with disabilities in Canada. A total of 122 children and youth with disabilities (mean age = 10 y; 80% boys, 57% with developmental disability) wore a Fitbit for 28 days to measure their daily steps.

Challenges of maternity continuum of care within the primary health care in northwest Ethiopia: interpretive description using a socio-ecological model.

Background: The maternity continuum of care plays a vital role in improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. However, its uptake remains low in Ethiopia, highlighting the need to identify challenges within the primary health care system to inform practice. Hence, this study aimed to explore the challenges of the maternity continuum of care within the primary health care system in northwest Ethiopia.

Methods: Data were from the PREHCO study, a population-based cohort of 3,713 older Puerto Rican adults (mean age 72.5 years; 60% female).

Background: The Performance-Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA) is a reliable instrument for evaluating the mobility (balance and gait) of patients with chronic stroke to manage their risk of falling; however, it has not been validated among Chinese patients with stroke. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese POMA in patients with stroke.

Methods: The POMA was applied to volunteer patients with stroke from the Shanghai MCC Hospital.

Microvascular Plug Embolization of Anterior Spinal Artery Bearing Segmental Arteries Prior Aortic Stenting: Technique and Safety.

Purpose: This study aims to present our experience with superselective embolization of the anterior spinal artery-bearing segmental artery (ASAbSA) using a microvascular plug (MVP) during the minimally invasive segmental artery coil embolization (MISACE) procedure prior endovascular repair of the thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated all MISACE procedures performed between May 2018 and July 2023, where MVP was deployed into an angiographically confirmed ASAbSA. Data were analyzed regarding interventional details, technical aspects, and safety protocols.

The understanding of dynamic birth positions for women in labor and childbirth - A hybrid concept analysis.

Problem And Background: The assessment of advantages and drawbacks associated with varying birthing positions has predominantly centered around medical or technical considerations and few studies have accounted for a woman's ability to attune to her bodily instincts during labor and birth. The objective of this study was to define the concept of dynamic birth positions and its significance within the birthing process.

Methods: This hybrid concept analysis consisted of three phases: theoretical, fieldwork, and analytical.

Food insecurity and health conditions in the Australian adult population: A nationally representative analysis.

Aim: This study aimed to identify key health condition correlates of food insecurity in Australia using nationally representative data.

Methods: This cross-sectional study used data from a large, nationally representative Australian survey that included questions on the dynamics of families and households, income, wealth, welfare, labour market activity (including unemployment and joblessness), life satisfaction and wellbeing. Binary logistic regression models of eight items of food insecurity measured the association between 17 health conditions and food insecurity while controlling for various demographic and socioeconomic variables.

Role and promise of health policy and systems research in integrating rehabilitation into the health systems.

Despite recognized need and reasonable demand, health systems and rehabilitation communities keep working in silos, independently with minimal recognition to the issues of those who require rehabilitation services. Consolidated effort by health systems and rehabilitation parties, recognizing the value, power and promise of each other, is a need of the hour to address this growing issue of public health importance. In this paper, the importance and the need for integration of rehabilitation into health system is emphasized.

Parent-young person lived experience of sensory dysregulation in children with tic disorders: a qualitative study.

Purpose: To understand the breadth of sensory dysregulation on participation in daily tasks for young people with tic disorders, as research identified that sensory dysregulation experiences are broader than the symptoms being assessed.

Methods: Eighteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 families with children (5-16 years) with tic disorders. Interviews ranged from 45 to 120 min and were transcribed verbatim.

Replacing poly(ethylene glycol) with RAFT lipopolymers in mRNA lipid nanoparticle systems for effective gene delivery.

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have emerged as promising carriers to efficiently transport mRNA into cells for protein translation, as seen with the mRNA vaccines used against COVID-19. However, they contain a widely used polymer - poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) - which lacks the functionality to be easily modified (which could effectively control the physicochemical properties of the LNPs such as its charge), and is also known to be immunogenic. Thus, it is desirable to explore alternative polymers which can replace the PEG component in mRNA LNP vaccines and therapeutics, while still maintaining their efficacy.

Microbiota-immune-brain interactions: A new vision in the understanding of periodontal health and disease.

This review highlights the significance of interactions between the microbiota, immune system, nervous and hormonal systems, and the brain on periodontal health and disease. Microorganisms in the microbiota, immune cells, and neurons communicate via homeostatic nervous and hormonal systems, regulating vital body functions. By modulating pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory adaptive immune responses, these systems control the composition and number of microorganisms in the microbiota.

Exploring drivers of self-treatment with antibiotics in three agricultural communities of northern Tanzania.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant global health threat, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Self-treatment with antibiotics, the practice of using antibiotics without professional guidance, is often considered an important contributor to the emergence and spread of AMR.

Method: This study investigated the drivers of self-treatment in three common types of agricultural communities in northern Tanzania.

Approaches to improving mental healthcare for autistic people: systematic review.

Background: Autistic people have a high likelihood of developing mental health difficulties but a low chance of receiving effective mental healthcare. Therefore, there is a need to identify and examine strategies to improve mental healthcare for autistic people.

Aims: To identify strategies that have been implemented to improve access, experiences of care and mental health outcomes for autistic adults, and to examine evidence on their acceptability, feasibility and effectiveness.

Organ donation after euthanasia in a patient living with dementia: a landmark case report.

Background: Organ donation after euthanasia (ODE) has been performed over 100 times in the Netherlands, primarily involving patients suffering from a neurodegenerative or psychiatric disease. In recent years, the number of euthanasia cases related to dementia has increased in the Netherlands, with some patients living with dementia expressing a wish for organ donation after euthanasia.

Methods: We describe a unique case of a 67-year-old female diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia as part of frontotemporal dementia who requested and underwent organ donation after euthanasia.

Altered states of consciousness caused by a mindfulness-based programme up to a year later: Results from a randomised controlled trial.

Background: Mindfulness-based programmes (MBPs) have shown beneficial effects on mental health. There is emerging evidence that MBPs may also be associated with marked deviations in the subjective experience of waking consciousness. We aimed to explore whether MBPs can have a causal role in different types of such states.

Objective: To describe the adaptations made and to examine interrater reliability and feasibility of administering a telehealth version of the Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite (tele-MSFC).

Design: The Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite (MSFC) is a commonly used, in-person clinical outcome assessment. It is composed of the timed 25-Foot Walk Test (T25FWT), Nine-Hole Peg Test (NHPT), and Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT).

Effect of Arm-Ergometry Versus Treadmill Supervised Exercise on Cardiorespiratory Fitness and Walking Distances in Patients With Peripheral Artery Disease: The ARMEX Randomized Clinical Trial.

Purpose: To compare arm-ergometry and treadmill supervised exercise training on cardiorespiratory fitness and walking distances in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Methods: ARMEX was a single-center, single-blinded, parallel group, non-inferiority trial enrolling symptomatic patients with PAD. Patients were randomized (1:1 ratio) to a 12-wk arm-ergometry (AEx) or standard treadmill (TEx) supervised exercise training protocol.
