Objectives: The role of needle core renal biopsy in large renal masses, defined as lesions larger than 4 cm, is debatable, as larger renal masses are associated with malignant histology. We aim to review the safety and impact of renal biopsy on the management of large renal masses.

Methods: A retrospective, single-center review of all renal biopsies performed between January 2011 and December 2020 at Royal Perth Hospital was conducted.

Introduction: Oral cancer is one of the most common cancers not only in India but also in South Asia. Treatment of oral cancer is not only limited to cure but also requires good reconstruction of the surgical defects for a better quality of the life. There are many well-proven options for reconstruction purposes for the defects of the oral cavity including local regional flaps to microvascular-free flaps.

Inflammatory Impact on Tissues Surrounding the Dental Implant of Singular Abutments Bonded onto Titanium Base - A Randomized Controlled Trial.

J Pharm Bioallied Sci

July 2023

Department of Prosthodontics, Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Pondicherry University, Affiliated to Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India.

Introduction: In dental implants, the biochemical connection between titanium (ti) and bony tissue has been well established. The properties of dental implants such as osseointegration and stability depend upon composition, design of the implant, connection, and design of the abutment, and additional removal of abutments. Recently, laser-generated micro-grooved surface (LSS) and TI abutments are the main focus of preventing peri-implant inflammation.

Article Synopsis
  • - NUT carcinoma (NC) is a fast-growing cancer driven by the BRD4-NUT fusion protein, which promotes growth by activating genes; while BET bromodomain inhibitors are a potential treatment, they work better when combined with other therapies.
  • - EZH2, a gene silencing enzyme, is essential for NC growth, and its inhibition using tazemetostat significantly reduces NC cell proliferation and restores tumor suppressor gene expression without affecting certain oncogenes.
  • - Combining EZH2 inhibitors with BET inhibitors enhances the effectiveness of treatment, leading to greater tumor suppression and longer survival in animal models, with some mice even showing complete remission.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed COVID-19 severity in hospitalized children across nine countries, focusing on the impact of different SARS-CoV-2 variants over time.
  • It found that children younger than 5 years showed a decrease in ICU admissions during the Omicron wave compared to the earlier variants, but ventilatory support needs remained unchanged.
  • In older children (5 to <18 years), there was a significant decrease in ICU admissions, ventilatory support, and oxygen therapy requirements as new variants emerged.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted using 19 canine experiments to examine how reentrant ventricular tachycardia (VT) is initiated and sustained, focusing on mapping heart circuitry post-infarction.
  • Findings revealed a correlation between the extrastimulus interval used to induce VT and the VT cycle length, suggesting that a specific boundary length (LIB) within the heart's circuitry plays a crucial role in VT dynamics.
  • The research concluded that while shorter LIBs are closely related to VT cycle length, other circuit parameters like isthmus width and angle showed less relevance, potentially due to changes in the heart tissue's structure after an infarct.

Background: India accounts for 13.3% of global disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) lost due to stroke with a relatively younger age of onset compared to the Western population. In India's public healthcare system, many stroke patients seek care at tertiary-level government-funded medical colleges where an optimal level of stroke care is expected.

Robust Resource Control Based on AP Selection in 6G-Enabled IoT Networks.

Sensors (Basel)

July 2023

Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering, King Faisal University, Al-Hofuf 31982, Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia.

The diverse application vertices of internet-of-things (IoT) including internet of vehicles (IoV), industrial IoT (IIoT) and internet of drones things (IoDT) involve intelligent communication between the massive number of objects around us. This digital transformation strives for seamless data flow, uninterrupted communication capabilities, low latency and ultra-high reliability. The limited capabilities of fifth generation (5G) technology have given way to sixth generation (6G) wireless technology.

Clinical trials in humans are vital to test safety and efficacy of new interventions and are accompanied with the complexity of related regulatory guidelines, stringent time frame and financial burden particularly when participants are children. Conducting clinical trials in low and middle income countries, where 90% of global diseases occur, increases the complexity as resources, infrastructures, and experience related to clinical trials may be limited in some countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, due to multiple infection control measures such as social distancing, lock-down of the societies, and increased work load of hospital workers, conducting clinical trials seemed very challenging.

Objectives: We aimed to present our experience and the outcomes of a novel technique, computed tomography (CT)-guided prostate biopsy and fiducial marker insertion in patients with absent rectums.

Methods: Patients who underwent CT-guided prostate biopsy at a single institution from November 2010 to November 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were included if they had a clinical suspicion of prostate cancer and had absent rectums from previous surgical resection.

Innovative approach to waste management: utilizing stabilized municipal solid waste in road infrastructure.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

February 2024

Department of Civil Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, 110025, India.

In recent years, a sudden upsurge in the quantity of municipal solid waste (MSW) has been observed, and the status quo demands a constructive and economically viable solution. The use of stabilized municipal solid waste (SMSW) in road construction can help in reducing the burden on landfills and waste management authorities. In the existing study, SMSW was accumulated from the Okhla landfill which is situated in New Delhi that is rich in an organic content.

Peri-implantitis is recognized as a complex pathology which could be defined as infectious inflammatory lesions that usually develop in the tissues around the implants. There are many protocols for the effective management of peri-implantitis that include mechanical debridement, the use of antiseptics and local/systemic antibiotics, and access and regenerative surgery formulated for the treatment of peri-implantitis. This study aims to evaluate the clinical outcomes of a mixed protocol for the regeneration of deep osseous defects.

Aims: Both xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC) and IgG4-related cholecystitis (IgG4-CC) are rare chronic fibroinflammatory tumefactive diseases of the gallbladder, which cause a strong confusion with resectable malignancy in view of their mass forming tendency with extension into the liver. We aim to study the histopathologic features of xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis with regard to IgG4-related cholecystitis in extended cholecystectomy specimens.

Methods And Results: Sixty cases of extended cholecystectomy with liver wedge resection, diagnosed as XGC on histopathology from January 2018 to December 2021 were retrieved from the archives.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of the major reasons for deaths globally. The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) regulates body hypertension and fluid balance which causes CVD. Angiotensin-converting enzyme I (ACE I) is the central Zn-metallopeptidase component of the RAAS playing a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis of the cardiovascular system.

Disgust serves to defend the body from the entry of toxins and disease. Central to this function is a strong relationship with the proximate senses of smell, taste, and touch. Theory suggests that distinct and reflexive facial movements should be evoked by gustatory and olfactory disgusts, serving to impede bodily entry.
