Introduction Restricted range of motion over the knee joint is a known complication following the surgical procedure. Aggressive rehabilitation protocols can initially manage knee stiffness due to arthrofibrosis. If conservative management fails, surgical (open or arthroscopic) release is the preferred modality of management.

Background: While inflammatory and immune responses to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in peripheral blood are extensively described, responses at the upper respiratory mucosal site of initial infection are relatively poorly defined. We sought to identify mucosal cytokine/chemokine signatures that distinguished coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) severity categories, and relate these to disease progression and peripheral inflammation.
Methods: We measured 35 cytokines and chemokines in nasal samples from 274 patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
Introduction: This article provides an overview of presentations and discussions from the inaugural Healthcare Delivery Science: Innovation and Partnerships for Health Equity Research (DESCIPHER) Symposium.
Methods: The symposium brought together esteemed experts from various disciplines to explore models for translating evidence-based interventions into practice.
Results: The symposium highlighted the importance of disruptive innovation in healthcare, the need for multi-stakeholder engagement, and the significance of family and community involvement in healthcare interventions.

Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), or concussion, is a major public health problem, and ambiguity still exists regarding its diagnosis. While functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been identified as a helpful screening tool for concussion, its limited accessibility in clinical or field settings necessitates a more efficient alternative. Oculomotor function deficit is an often-reported pathology in mTBI.

Background: The purpose of the study was to identify whether the presence of a pre-injury psychiatric history, subacute post-concussive symptoms (PCS) and personality traits were predictive of less favorable social reintegration for 3 months following a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).
Method: A total of 76 patients with mTBI were included, and the presence of a pre-injury psychiatric history was identified from the medical chart. One-month post-accident, these patients completed the assessing personality traits and the to measure subacute PCS.

Background: Viscoelastic tests are now routinely used for coagulopathy correction in patients with cirrhosis. Thromboelastography (TEG) and rotational thromboelastometry (RoTEM®) are the most widely studied tests in this population. However, they have not been compared with each other in critically ill patients with liver disease presenting with nonvariceal bleed.

LAMA2-RD can present with a wide range of phenotypes ranging from severe infantile congenital muscular dystrophy to milder adult-onset limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. This case describes a 28-year-old Indian gentleman having childhood-onset focal seizures, gradually progressive proximal predominant lower-limb weakness for the past three years, elevated creatinine phosphokinase levels, and MRI brain suggestive of diffuse symmetrical periventricular white matter hyperintensities.

Xeroderma pigmentosum is a rare autosomal recessive disorder resulting in heightened cutaneous photosensitivity due to aberrant DNA repair mechanisms. Early-life developmental delay and cognitive impairment have been described in xeroderma pigmentosum cases. However, psychiatric symptoms in adulthood as the presenting feature of xeroderma pigmentosum have not been reported.

Problem & Background: Medical education has acknowledged the impact of structural societal factors on health, prompting the need for curricula seeking to eliminate health inequities upstream while simultaneously caring for downstream effects of existing inequities. The Keck School of Medicine of USC (KSOM) implemented one such comprehensive curriculum, Health Justice and Systems of Care (HJSC), integrating health systems science, structural competency, and service-learning in a required course spanning the pre-clerkship and clerkship phases with an optional post clerkship elective.
Approach: The HJSC course addresses topics including racism in medicine, health inequities, and health systems science.

Eye-tracking techniques have gained widespread application in various fields including research on the visual system, neurosciences, psychology, and human-computer interaction, with emerging clinical implications. In this preliminary phase of our study, we introduce a pilot test of innovative virtual reality technology designed for tracking head and eye movements among healthy individuals. This tool was developed to assess the presence of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), given the frequent association of oculomotor function deficits with such injuries.

The increasing global incidence of glioma tumors has raised significant healthcare concerns due to their high mortality rates. Traditionally, tumor diagnosis relies on visual analysis of medical imaging and invasive biopsies for precise grading. As an alternative, computer-assisted methods, particularly deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs), have gained traction.

Minnelide is a water-soluble disodium salt variant of triptolide, an HSP70 inhibitor that can prevent tumor progression and induce apoptosis. Maximum tolerated dose (MTD), safety, and antitumor activity of Minnelide alone and its combination with paclitaxel were evaluated in this open-label, single-center, dose-escalation phase I study (NCT05566834) in patients who were previously treated for advanced gastric cancer (AGC). Minnelide was administered orally using a 3 + 3 dose-escalation design as monotherapy (Regimen A), and in combination with paclitaxel (Regimen B & C).

Background: Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) with MitraClip is a safe and effective alternative to surgical mitral valve repair/replacement in patients with high operative risk. Pleth Variability Index (PVI) is a non-invasive, dynamic index based on analysis of the respiratory variations in the plethysmographic waveform recorded transcutaneously by the pulse oximeter.
Objectives: The objective of the study was to evaluate if the hemodynamic effect of improved left-sided output after successful transcatheter mitral valve repair would lead to a significant change in PVI, and if it would correlate with the decrease in left atrial pressure (LAP).

Background: Irrespective of the availability of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine and its success rate in adults, administering vaccines to children remains a challenge for healthcare workers. Children's vaccine hesitancy among parents remains substantial and is exacerbated due to misleading information. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the hesitancy of parents and their concern about the vaccination and clinical characteristics of COVID-19 in their children.

Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors and can be associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Radiologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, and radiation oncologists rely on brain MRI for diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal treatment monitoring. However, automated, objective, and quantitative tools for non-invasive assessment of meningiomas on multi-sequence MR images are not available.

Background: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a biologically aggressive malignancy requiring appropriate biomarkers to improve its outcome. Role of ABC transporters (ABCB1 and ABCG2) has been linked to cancer aggressiveness, tumorigenesis and multidrug resistance. Herein, we studied the prognostic implication of ABCB1 and ABCG2 in GBC.

This study aims to decipher crucial biomarkers regulated by p73 for the early detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) by employing a combination of integrative bioinformatics and expression profiling techniques. The transcriptome profile of HCT116 cell line p53 p73 and p53 p73 knockdown was performed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). This was corroborated with three CRC tissue expression datasets available in Gene Expression Omnibus.
