Interpretability for machine learning models in medical imaging (MLMI) is an important direction of research. However, there is a general sense of murkiness in what interpretability means. Why does the need for interpretability in MLMI arise? What goals does one actually seek to address when interpretability is needed? To answer these questions, we identify a need to formalize the goals and elements of interpretability in MLMI.

Background: The role of epigenetics in cardiovascular diseases has paved the way for innovative therapeutic approaches. Investigating epigenetic changes using cell-free DNA (cfDNA) holds substantial promise beyond mere diagnostics, especially for heart-related conditions like acute myocardial infarction (AMI), where obtaining tissue samples is a challenge. This study explores the methylation patterns of cfDNA in AMI patients and compares them with genomic DNA (gDNA) from the same individuals, aiming to evaluate the effectiveness of cfDNA as a valuable resource for studying heart-related diseases.

Background: Various studies have observed an association between interleukin-6 (IL-6), serum ferritin, d-dimer, and in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients. However, multivariate regression analysis was not done in the majority of the studies, Also, the role of interleukin-6 (IL-6), serum ferritin, and d-dimer in hospitalized COVID-19 patients was not adequately studied and reported from our region.
Method: It was a retrospective cohort study in which the serum IL-6, serum ferritin, and d-dimer of 305 hospitalized COVID-19 patients were analyzed, and their association with mortality was determined.

Objective: To assess the capability of determining the mixed chemical composition of urinary stones using spectral imaging properties of Dual Energy Computed Tomography (DECT) Gemstone Spectral Imaging (GSI) software.
Material And Methods: Twenty-six single and 24 mixed composition ex vivo urinary stones with known chemical composition determined by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) prior to this project were scanned with DECT imaging and GSI in vitro. The major components of the stones included Uric Acid (UA), Calcium Oxalate (CaOx), Calcium Phosphate (CaP), Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate (MAP), and Cystine (Cys).

Purpose: DEK::AFF2 fusion-associated squamous cell carcinoma (DEK::AFF2 SCC), also reported in the literature as low-grade papillary sinonasal (Schneiderian) carcinoma (LGPSC), is a rare, primarily bland-appearing, but locally aggressive neoplasm. Morphologically, these tumors can closely resemble sinonasal papilloma (SP), especially on small or limited biopsy, often leading to misdiagnosis. DEK::AFF2 SCC is devoid of the underlying mutually exclusive EGFR or KRAS driver mutations of SP, suggesting it may represent a distinct unique entity.

The intricate interplay of cancer stem cell plasticity, along with the bidirectional transformation between epithelial-mesenchymal states, introduces further intricacy to offer insights into newer therapeutic approaches. Differentiation therapy, while successful in targeting leukemic stem cells, has shown limited overall success, with only a few promising instances. Using colon carcinoma cell strains with sequential p53/p73 knockdowns, our study underscores the association between p53/p73 and the maintenance of cellular plasticity.

The progression of gallbladder inflammatory lesions to invasive cancer remains poorly understood, necessitating research on biomarkers involved in this transition. This study aims to identify and validate proteins associated with this progression, offering insights into potential diagnostic biomarkers for gallbladder cancer (GBC). Label-free liquid chromatography-assisted tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) proteomics was performed on samples from ten cases each of GBC and inflammatory lesions, with technical duplicates.

Social prescribing (SP) embodies a comprehensive approach to addressing the social determinants of health. Access to Resources in the Community (ARC) is an innovative SP program offering bilingual services that involves a single point of entry for health and social needs and introduces practice changes to assist primary care providers in engaging patients, along with a nonclinical lay navigator who supports patients in accessing relevant community resources. The ARC team has created a SP toolkit offering practical guidance for setting up, implementing, monitoring the progress of and evaluating SP programs.

Background: Dysregulated splicing events are a common phenomenon in cancer with the Serine-arginine-rich splicing factor (SRSF) family emerging as pivotal regulators of gene expression, exerting influence over constitutive and alternative splicing processes. Although aberrations in a few SRSF family members have been implicated in various cancers, the comprehensive roles of other family constituents remain underexplored.
Methods: This study delves into the expression profile of the entire SRSF family (SRSF1-SRSF12) in 23 cancerous cell lines originating from diverse tissues using quantitative Real-Time PCR.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to understand the pharmacotherapy and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) prescription of women with depression and anxiety admitted to an Australian inpatient psychiatric mother-baby unit (MBU) and compare prescription to national clinical practice guidelines.
Method: A retrospective audit was conducted on women diagnosed with depression or anxiety admitted to a public psychiatric inpatient MBU from March 2017 to July 2019. Data was captured at three time points to assess demographic, clinical and pharmacotherapy treatment characteristics.

is the causative agent of the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea. The increasing prevalence of this disease worldwide, the rise of antibiotic-resistant strains, and the difficulties in treatment necessitate the development of a vaccine, highlighting the significance of preventative measures to control and eradicate the infection. Currently, there is no widely available vaccine, partly due to the bacterium's ability to evade natural immunity and the limited research investment in gonorrhea compared to other diseases.

With an annual cumulative occurrence of approximately 15,000 in North America, all childhood cancers are rare. Very rare cancers as defined by both the European Cooperative Study Group for Rare Pediatric Cancers and the Children's Oncology Group fall into two principal categories: those so uncommon (fewer than 2 cases/million) that their study is challenging even through cooperative group efforts (e.g.

Introduction: The lymph node status is a very important prognostic factor in head-and-neck cancer. The presence of metastatic lymph nodes will reduce the overall survival by 50%. Lymph node ratio (LNR) is defined as the ratio of the number of positive lymph nodes to the total number of lymph nodes dissected.

Background: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a common gastrointestinal malignancy noted for its aggressive characteristics and poor prognosis, which is mostly caused by delayed detection. However, the scarcity of information regarding somatic mutations in Indian patients with GBC has hampered the development of efficient therapeutic options. In the present study, the authors attempted to bridge this gap by revealing the mutational profile of GBC.

Background: Task-sharing of spinal anaesthesia care by non-specialist graduate physicians, termed medical officers (MOs), is commonly practised in rural Indian healthcare facilities to mitigate workforce constraints. We sought to assess whether spinal anaesthesia failure rates of MOs were non-inferior to those of consultant anaesthesiologists (CA) following a standardised educational curriculum.
Methods: We performed a randomised, non-inferiority trial in three rural hospitals in Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh, India.
