A 39-year-old woman presented a saucer-shaped mass in the left upper eyelid and underwent the extirpation at local anesthesia. Pathologically, collagen fibers, capillaries, small vessels, and CD34-positive spindle cells were dispersed among mature adipose tissues, indicative of spindle cell lipoma. Long-lasting cyst-like eyelid masses would be usually dermoid cysts, and spindle cell lipoma would be listed as a rare pathological diagnosis in differential diagnoses of cyst-like lesions in the upper and lower eyelid.

Blunt abdominal trauma causing intraperitoneal injury and/or bleeding can be life-threatening, requiring immediate intervention. Diagnosing these cases can be challenging, especially when pre-existing conditions are involved. Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) is a rare tumor of the appendix that can lead to pseudomyxoma peritonei.

Aim: Vertebral artery dissection (VAD) is a rare cause of non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) with significant clinical implications. This study compared the clinical characteristics and outcomes of SAH from intracranial VAD rupture to those from other etiologies, primarily aneurysmal rupture.
Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study at Okayama University Hospital included patients with non-traumatic SAH diagnosed between 2019 and 2023.

Purpose: The effect of quadriceps muscle strength on medial joint space (MJS) narrowing after repair for medial meniscus (MM) posterior root tears (MMPRTs) has not yet been determined. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of preoperative and postoperative quadriceps muscle strength on the change in MJS (ΔMJS) in MMPRTs.
Methods: Thirty patients who underwent pullout repair for MMPRTs were retrospectively evaluated.

Key Clinical Message: Conjunctival hemangioma and lymphangioma are rare and their long-term follow-up description has been scarce. In our two patients, conjunctival vascular and lymphatic malformations remained stable in decades and could be observed without treatment.
Abstract: A 65-year-old woman with diabetic retinopathy underwent glaucoma surgery to construct a filtering bleb adjacent to conjunctival hemangioma, and showed bleb function and stable hemangioma for a decade.

Computer diagnosis of electrocardiograms is widely used to provide useful information in clinical practice and medical checkups. However, it is common for users to be confused by the inappropriate diagnosis. We illustrate some examples of inappropriate automatic diagnoses and discuss the actual situation of inappropriate automatic processing and its problems.

Background And Aim: Anticoagulant users with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) sometimes suffer from gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) and have difficulty continuing the medication. Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) has been developed for such situations. We aimed to clarify the clinical significance of a history of GIB in comparison to other factors in patients who had undergone LAAC.

Abstract: A 56-year-old otherwise healthy woman developed abscess from dacryocystitis in the right lower eyelid. The smear of puncture fluid showed acid-fast bacilli and was identified after a month.
Adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATL) remains incurable. The NF-κB and interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) signalling pathways are among the critical survival pathways for the progression of ATL. TGF-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1), an IκB kinase-activating kinase, triggers the activation of NF-κB.

Here we report a case of sarcoidosis which demonstrated with bilateral ankle arthritis. We usually do not consider sarcoidosis routinely for the differential diagnosis of acute arthritis, however, up to 15 to 25% of sarcoidosis complicate arthritis, typically in ankle joints. Sarcoid arthritis is reported to occur mainly in young northern Europe women, whereas this case intimate that we should take sarcoidosis into account as the differential diagnosis of ankle arthralgia also among Asian men especially when combining upper respiratory symptoms.

Background: Myxedema coma is an extremely rare but fatal endocrine emergency that requires urgent recognition and treatment. We describe a case of severe hypothermia that rapidly deteriorated to cardiac arrest that was attributed to myxedema coma.
Case Presentation: A 52-year-old man without a history of hypothyroidism was transferred to our emergency department due to coma and profound hypothermia.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy is a promising approach to curing bone diseases and disorders. In treating genetic bone disorders, MSC therapy is local or systemic transplantation of isolated and in vitro proliferated MSC rather than bone marrow transplantation. Recent evidence showed that bone marrow MSC engraftment to bone regeneration has been controversial in animal and human studies.

Background Despite the impact of heat exposure caused by global warming, few studies have investigated the hourly effects of heat exposure and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the elderly. We examined the associations between short-term heat exposure and the risk of CVD in the elderly in Japan and evaluated possible effect-measure modifications by rainy seasons that occur in East Asia. Methods and Results We conducted a time-stratified case-crossover study.

Cushing's syndrome (CS) shows diverse signs such as centripetal obesity, moon face, and buffalo hump, which can complicate the diagnosis. Facial features including eyelid edema, as an underrecognized sign, can be diagnostic clues for an excess of corticoids in a CS patient.

Objectives: Aberrant NLRP3 inflammasome activation has been demonstrated in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which may contribute to debilitating inflammation and bone destruction. Here, we explored the efficacy of the potent TGF-β-activated kinase-1 (TAK1) inhibitor LL-Z1640-2 (LLZ) on joint inflammation and bone destruction in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA).
Methods: LL-Z1640-2 was administered every other day in CIA mice.

Aim: The use of automated external defibrillators was expanded to include infants according to the 2010 cardiopulmonary resuscitation guidelines in Japan. However, deployment has been slower for pediatric patients in Japan, because there are fewer appropriate pediatric patients for automated external defibrillators than adults. This study aimed to investigate the targeted age range for pediatric defibrillation and device deployment of defibrillators for pediatric patients in prehospital emergency medical care settings in Japan, and present the issues associated with automated external defibrillators.
