Various proteins play a decisive role in the pathology of different neurodegenerative diseases. Nonetheless, most of these proteins can only be detected during a neuropathological assessment, although some non-specific biomarkers are routinely tested for in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) as a part of the differential diagnosis of dementia. In antemortem CSF samples from 117 patients with different types of neuropathologically confirmed neurodegenerative disease with dementia, we assessed total-tau (t-tau), phosphorylated-tau (181P) (p-tau), amyloid-beta (1-42) (Aβ42), TAR DNA binding protein (TDP)-43, progranulin (PGRN), and neurofilament light (NfL) chain levels, and positivity of protein 14-3-3.

Aim: Development of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is associated with disturbances in immune and metabolic status that may be reflected by an altered gene expression profile of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). To reveal a potential family predisposition to these alterations, we investigated the regulation of gene expression profiles in circulating CD14 and CD14 PBMC in fasting conditions and in response to oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in glucose tolerant first-degree relatives (FDR) of T2DM patients and in control subjects.
Materials And Methods: This work is based on the clinical study LIMEX (NCT03155412).

BIOREP is a Czech registry of patients with psoriasis undergoing biological treatment. The objective of the study was to compare differences in demographic data, previous therapy, comorbidities, severity of psoriasis, quality of life, drug survival rates, and reasons for discontinuation between men and women. We analyzed a cohort of patients from the registry treated between May 2005 and January 2020.

Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) is the most common type of a group of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (prion diseases). The etiology of the sporadic form of CJD is still unclear. sCJD can occur in combination with other neurodegenerative diseases, which further complicates the diagnosis.

Myoepithelial carcinoma of salivary glands is an underrecognized and challenging entity with a broad morphologic spectrum, including an EWSR1-rearranged clear cell variant. Myoepithelial carcinoma is generally aggressive with largely unknown genetic features. A retrospective review of Salivary Gland Tumor Registry in Pilsen searching for the key words "clear cell myoepithelial carcinoma," "hyalinizing clear cell," and "clear cell malignant myoepithelioma" yielded 94 clear cell myoepithelial carcinomas (CCMCs) for molecular analysis of EWSR1 rearrangement using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Psoriasis patients are at increased risk of atherosclerosis, characterized by endothelial dysfunction, linked through systemic inflammation. Anti-TNF-a therapy seems to decrease this risk. The purpose of this study was to measure the levels of serum markers associated with systemic inflammation in psoriasis patients, compared to healthy individuals and to investigate the change in their levels after 3 months and 2 years of adalimumab therapy.

Background: The resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae to macrolides is becoming an increasingly important issue and thus it is important to understand the genetics related to adaptation of this species to the widespread use of antibiotics in Europe. The 58 isolates of S. pneumoniae belonging to sequence type (ST) 416 and serotype 19A and to several different phenotypes originated from Italy, Portugal and Czech Republic were thus sequenced on Illumina MiSeq.

Pancreatic carcinoma remains one of the leading cancer-related causes of death worldwide and is generally characterized by a dismal prognosis and limited potential for oncologic treatment. A rare subvariant of pancreatic cancer, undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells (UCOGC), has an unpredictable prognosis according to many previous studies, with unexpectedly long survival in individual cases. In this study, we collected, retrospectively, 13 cases of well-documented UCOGCs and performed immunohistochemistry focused on the expression of the programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and several other potential therapeutic and predictive markers (PanTRK, p53, MSH2, PMS2, and the number of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes), to explore their correlation with the follow-up of the patients.

Background: Facial blemishes resulting from skin disorders have a significant effect on the patient's self-esteem and impact quality of life (QOL).
Aim: To assess the impact of a corrective cosmetic (CC) on QOL on top of skin quality parameters.
Methods: An international observational study was conducted on subjects with visible facial flaws that would benefit from a corrective cosmetic.

Background: A high-quality research identifying the best physiotherapeutic approach for the improvement of balance in people with multiple sclerosis is missing. This study compared aspects of balance improvement such as therapy specificity to balance, therapy method and category, country, intensity and medical conditions.
Methods: A multicentric randomised rater-blinded controlled trial comprised three different physiotherapy programs (Czech and Italian outpatient or inpatient programs).

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of the uterine cervix with a well-documented link to infection with human papillomaviruses (HPV). According to a recent classification, there are several morphological variants of cervical squamous carcinoma, without reference to sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma, which is well described in other organs.
Case Presentation: In this paper, we describe an extremely rare case of a 77-year-old woman with primary malignant cervical tumor displaying biphasic histomorphology with an epithelioid and sarcomatoid part; the latter was immunohistochemistry positive for cytokeratin and vimentin.

Adjuvant radiotherapy after breast cancer surgery is an important part of breast cancer treatment improving local control and overall survival. However, a higher risk of cardiac mortality was observed when conventional radiotherapy techniques were used. Cardiac morbidity and mortality after radiation therapy have been studied in many meta-analyses.
