Clinical and Research Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease ISCARE and First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.
Background: A subcutaneous formulation of infliximab (IFX-SC) approved to treat patients with inflammatory bowel disease may offer improved efficacy versus intravenous infliximab.
Methods: Patients with refractory Crohn's disease (CD, = 32) previously treated unsuccessfully with at least 2 biologics were treated with IFX-SC and followed from baseline at Week 0 (W0) to Week 30 (W30). The study's primary endpoint was the treatment's persistence at W30, while secondary goals included the analysis of serum infliximab trough levels (TL IFX), dynamics of anti-IFX antibodies (ATIs), and clinical, serum and fecal markers of CD activity during IFX-SC treatment.

Objectives: The growing popularity of diets that restrict the consumption of animal-based foods is an important new challenge for the public healthcare system in Czechia. While the environmental and health-related benefits of plant-based diets are widely discussed in the media, people who follow these diets may lack professional support in terms of nutritional advice and even access to healthcare. The present study aims to map the nutritional practices and experiences with the healthcare system of people in Czechia who follow vegan diets.

Health effects of vegan diets among children and adolescents are a controversial public health topic. Thus, the aim of the present systematic review is to evaluate a broad range of health outcomes among vegan children and adolescents aged 0 to 18 years. 18 studies met the inclusion criteria (17 cross-sectional, 1 RCT).

The degree of deviation of palatal shape from the norm may reflect facial growth disturbance in cleft lip and palate (CLP). The objective of this study was to compare the palatal morphology in children treated with different surgical protocols. Palatal shape was assessed with geometric morphometrics (GM) including Procrustes superimposition, principal component analysis (PCA), and permutation tests with 10,000 permutations, in 24 children treated with two-stage repair with a late palatoplasty (Prague group; mean age at assessment 8.

Background: Several studies explored the interdependence between Paco2 and bicarbonate during respiratory acid-base derangements. The authors aimed to reframe the bicarbonate adaptation to respiratory disorders according to the physical-chemical approach, hypothesizing that (1) bicarbonate concentration during respiratory derangements is associated with strong ion difference; and (2) during acute respiratory disorders, strong ion difference changes are not associated with standard base excess.
Methods: This is an individual participant data meta-analysis from multiple canine and human experiments published up to April 29, 2021.

Background: COVID-19, an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, was shown to be associated with an increased risk of new-onset diabetes. Mechanisms contributing to the development of hyperglycemia are still unclear. We aimed to study whether hyperglycemia is related to insulin resistance and/or beta cell dysfunction.

Background And Aims: The European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) Lipid Clinics Network promoted a survey in order to identify and understand how and when lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is tested and clinically evaluated in lipid clinics throughout Europe, and the challenges that may prevent evaluation from being carried out.
Methods: This survey was divided into three areas of inquiry: background and clinical setting information of clinicians, questions for doctors who claimed not to measure Lp(a), in order to understand what were the reasons for not ordering the test, and questions for doctors who measure Lp(a), to investigate the use of this value in the management of patients.
Results: A total of 151 centres clinicians filled in the survey, out of 226 invited.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory intensively pruritic skin disease. Patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis or with difficult-to-treat areas are candidates for systemic therapy, especially when topical therapy is inadequate. Currently, we have available not only conventional immunosuppressive systemic therapy, but also targeted biological therapy, which has shown a remarkable reduction in clinical severity with a good safety profile.

Background: Mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of both critical illness and propofol infusion syndrome and its severity seems to be proportional to the doses of noradrenaline, which patients are receiving. We comprehensively studied the effects of noradrenaline on cellular bioenergetics and mitochondrial biology in human skeletal muscle cells with and without propofol-induced mitochondrial dysfunction.
Methods: Human skeletal muscle cells were isolated from vastus lateralis biopsies from patients undergoing elective hip replacement surgery (n = 14) or healthy volunteers (n = 4).

Purpose: The study aims to provide an updated overview of studies that show the impact of psychotherapeutic interventions on fear of cancer recurrence (FCR), to explore the relationship between FCR and related factors (psychological distress, well-being, anxiety, depression, fear, coping strategies, quality of life), and to identify the most effective therapeutic approaches in managing FCR.
Methods: Three databases were searched between January 2021 and April 2021 using the key words "fear of cancer recurrence - psychotherapy - intervention" following the a priori established PRISMA protocol.
Results: Thirteen studies were included in the final review.

Aims/hypothesis: We previously detected indications that beta cell function is protected by gluten-free diet (GFD) introduced shortly after the onset of childhood type 1 diabetes. The present aim was to assess whether GFD was associated with changes in the gut bacteriome composition and in its functional capacity, and whether such changes mediated the observed effects of GFD on beta cell function.
Methods: Forty-five children (aged 10.

Introduction: The proportion of women being treated with biologics is growing. However, data on treatment recommendation awareness among treating physicians and women who are considering pregnancy and family planning are limited. In this study, we used a questionnaire survey to learn how rheumatologists and dermatologists address women's needs for family planning, pregnancy, and breastfeeding, as well as their possible concerns with concurrent inflammatory rheumatic disease or psoriasis.

The IL-17 cytokine family encompasses six different homodimers and heterodimers referred to as IL-17A-F. Due to some differences in the mechanism of IL-17 inhibition, aninsufficient effect of one IL-17 inhibitor does not necessarily imply lack of efficacy of the other agent of the same class. Aim of study was analysis of the success rate of switches among IL-17 inhibitors (secukinumab, ixekizumab, and brodalumab) in patients treated in the Czech Republic.

Background: Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement via upper partial sternotomy (MiniAVR) provides very good short-term results and delivers certain advantages in the postoperative course. There is limited data regarding the mid-term mortality and morbidity following this minimally invasive surgery.
Methods: We provide a retrospective analysis of the patients, undergoing MiniAVR versus full sternotomy (FS) for aortic valve replacement with biological prosthesis.

Aims/hypothesis: The proportion of children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) who have experience with low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) is unknown. Our goal was to map the frequency of LCD among children with T1D and to describe their clinical and laboratory data.
Methods: Caregivers of 1040 children with T1D from three centers were addressed with a structured questionnaire regarding the children's carbohydrate intake and experience with LCD (daily energy intake from carbohydrates below 26% of age-recommended values).

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a liver malignancy associated with a poor prognosis. Its main subtypes are peripheral/intrahepatic and hilar/extrahepatic CCA. Several molecular, morphological and clinical similarities between hilar/extrahepatic CCA and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) have been described.

Introduction: Risankizumab has been approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis; however, real-life data are limited. Our objectives were to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of risankizumab and its impact on the quality of life of patients with psoriasis in a real-world setting.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 154 patients from 18 centers in the Czech Republic who had undergone biologic therapy with risankizumab for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.
