Background: Regional anesthesia for total knee arthroplasty has been deemed high priority by national and international societies, and its use can serve as a measure of healthcare equity. The association between utilization of regional anesthesia for postoperative pain and (1) race and (2) hospital in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty was estimated. The hypothesis was that Black patients would be less likely than White patients to receive regional anesthesia, and that variability in regional anesthesia would more likely be attributable to the hospital where surgery occurred than race.

Beyond the legal and regulatory limitations associated with biosimilar availability in the United States, the adoption of biosimilars is contingent on the willingness of health care providers (HCPs) to prescribe them and of patients to accept them. In this dynamic market, it is of paramount importance to understand the current awareness, attitudes, and preferences of a broad spectrum of stakeholders if uptake of biosimilars is to be optimized. In this article, we highlight knowledge gaps among US HCPs and patients regarding biosimilars for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases as assessed in published survey literature over the last 5 years.

Article Synopsis
  • Hypoxia in inflammatory conditions, like rheumatoid arthritis (RA), promotes bone resorption by enhancing the formation of osteoclasts, but the exact mechanisms linking hypoxia to osteoclastogenesis are not well understood.
  • This study investigates the role of the protein lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) in connecting inflammatory osteoclastogenesis and bone loss using both cell studies and experimental mouse models of arthritis.
  • The research finds that LSD1 expression is increased in RA patients and is crucial for osteoclast differentiation, revealing potential genetic pathways that link hypoxia to the accelerated bone erosion seen in inflammatory arthritis.

Objective: The optimal strategy for perioperative glucocorticoid (GC) management in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on chronic GCs is unknown. Although there is a concern for hypotension if inadequate doses are used, higher GC exposure may increase perioperative complications. We aimed to investigate the relationships between perioperative GCs with hemodynamic instability and short-term postoperative complications following total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with RA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of methotrexate (MTX)-based treatments for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by assessing both ACR50 response and remission outcomes.
  • It used a bivariate network meta-analysis to compare different MTX combinations, revealing that most combinations of MTX with biologics or tofacitinib outperformed MTX alone, especially in treatment-naïve patients.
  • The findings indicated a significant correlation between ACR50 response and remission, suggesting that analyzing these outcomes together can provide more accurate estimates of treatment benefits.
