[Tc]Technetium and Rhenium Dithiocarbazate Complexes: Chemical Synthesis and Biological Assessment.

Background/objectives: Dithiocarbazates (DTCs) and their metal complexes have been studied regarding their property as anticancer activities. In this work, using S-benzyl-5-hydroxy-3-methyl-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pirazol-1-carbodithionate (Hbdtc), we prepared [ReO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] and [[Tc]TcO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] complexes for tumor uptake and animal biodistribution studies.

Methods: Re complex was prepared by a reaction of H2bdtc and (NBu)[ReOCl], the final product was characterized by IR, H NMR, CHN, and MS-ESI.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells with the potential to differentiate into various lineages. They have also the potential to protect themselves against harmful stimuli to maintain their functional integrity. Drug resistance-related transporters such as ABCB1 (P-glycoprotein; P-gp), ABCC1 (MRP1; multidrug resistance-related Protein 1), and LRP (lung resistance protein) may protect MSCs against toxic substances such as chemotherapeutic agents.

NF-κB-Specific Suppression in Cardiomyocytes Unveils Aging-Associated Responses in Cardiac Tissue.

: Aging is associated with structural and functional changes in the heart, including hypertrophy, fibrosis, and impaired contractility. Cellular mechanisms such as senescence, telomere shortening, and DNA damage contribute to these processes. Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) has been implicated in mediating cellular responses in aging tissues, and increased NF-κB expression has been observed in the hearts of aging rodents.

Peritoneal chemotherapy delivery systems for ovarian cancer treatment: systematic review of animal models.

Introduction: Intraperitoneal chemotherapy for ovarian cancer treatment has controversial benefits as most methodologies are associated with significant morbidity. We carried out a systematic review to compare tumor response, measured by tumor weight and volume, between intraperitoneal chemotherapy delivered via drug delivery systems (DDSs) and free intraperitoneal chemotherapy in animal models of ovarian cancer. The secondary aim was to assess the toxicity of DDS-delivered chemotherapy, based on changes in animal body weight.

The PRO-AGE Tool and Its Association With Post Discharge Outcomes in Older Adults Admitted From the Emergency Department.

Background: Existing risk scores assessing geriatric vulnerability in the emergency department (ED) have shown limited predictive power, especially in diverse populations. We investigated the relationship of a quick and easy-to-administer geriatric vulnerability scoring system with functional decline and mortality in older patients admitted to multiple hospitals through the ED in the United States (US) and Brazil (BR).

Method: Federated, international, multicenter observational study of hospitalized ED patients aged ≥ 65 from US and BR.

Epidemiology, Ventilation Management, and Outcomes in Invasively Ventilated Coronavirus Disease 2019 Patients: An Analysis of Four Observational Studies in Four Countries on Two Continents.

Epidemiology, ventilator management, and outcomes in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) because of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been described extensively but have never been compared between countries. We performed an individual patient data analysis of four observational studies to compare epidemiology, ventilator management, and outcomes. We used propensity score weighting to control for confounding factors.

External Validation of the Walter Index for Posthospitalization Mortality Prediction in Older Adults.

Importance: The Walter Index is a widely used prognostic tool for assessing 12-month mortality risk among hospitalized older adults. Developed in the US in 2001, its accuracy in contemporary non-US contexts is unclear.

Objective: To evaluate the external validity of the Walter Index in predicting posthospitalization mortality risk in Brazilian older adult inpatients.

Gastric partitioning versus gastrojejunostomy for gastric outlet obstruction due to unresectable gastric cancer: randomized clinical trial.

Background: Gastric outlet obstruction due to unresectable tumours is usually managed with a gastrojejunostomy. Unfortunately, the unsatisfactory outcomes of this procedure have led to the search for alternatives, including gastric partitioning.

Methods: Monocentric, randomized, parallel, open-label trial that included patients with obstructive, unresectable distal gastric tumours.

The Knee-SCHOOL: a brief patient-centered multidisciplinary educational program for knee osteoarthritis.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most common form of arthritis in adults and a leading cause of years lived with disability, representing a significant burden on healthcare worldwide.

Objective: Describe the structure and educational elements of the Knee-SCHOOL, a brief patient-centered multidisciplinary educational program for patients with KOA.

Clinical expression of radiographic axial spondyloarthritis and its association with HLA-B27 in European and Ibero-American populations.

Objective: To compare the clinical and sociodemographic characteristics of Ibero-American patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA) to those of European patients, with a particular focus on the influence of HLA-B27.

Methods: This was an observational, cross-sectional, and multicentre study of patients who fulfilled the European Spondyloarthropathy Study Group (ESSG) criteria for SpA from the REGISPONSER and RESPONDIA registries. Univariate and multivariate analyses between European and Ibero-American populations stratified by HLA-B27 status were conducted.

Outcomes of segmentectomy versus lobectomy in adults with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.

Objective: Surgical resection remains the gold standard treatment for bronchiectasis in patients who present with hemoptysis or suppuration, as well as in those who do not respond to clinical treatment. We sought to investigate the efficacy of sublobar resection (segmentectomy) and compare it with that of lobar resection (lobectomy) in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.

Methods: Patients undergoing lobectomy or segmentectomy between 2019 and 2023 were included in the study.

Expression of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-2 in pituitary tumors and their relationship with cavernous sinus invasion.

Objective: To evaluate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), MMP-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) in pituitary tumors and investigate their correlation with circulating plasma proteins and cavernous sinus invasion. In addition, the Ki-67 index was also assessed.

Methods: Seventy-four patients (37 females) with pituitary adenomas were included, with preoperative peripheral blood collected in 29 cases.

Background: Worsening heart failure (WHF) challenges health care with frequent rehospitalizations and reduced quality of life for patients. Despite therapeutic advances, high rehospitalization risks highlight the urgent need for new treatments.

Objectives: This study evaluated the effectiveness of initiating novel therapies during hospitalization or vulnerable phase for WHF patients to reduce rehospitalization risks and determine the optimal treatment sequence.

Large language models for the mental health community: framework for translating code to care.

Large language models (LLMs) offer promising applications in mental health care to address gaps in treatment and research. By leveraging clinical notes and transcripts as data, LLMs could improve diagnostics, monitoring, prevention, and treatment of mental health conditions. However, several challenges persist, including technical costs, literacy gaps, risk of biases, and inequalities in data representation.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy for early-stage breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Radiation therapy (RT) is a standard treatment for non-metastatic breast cancer and is associated with acute and late toxicities. Intensity-modulated RT (IMRT) may decrease toxicity and is convenient for patients.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of IMRT in women with early stage breast cancer.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) affects approximately 250,000 to 500,000 individuals annually. Current therapeutic interventions predominantly focus on mitigating the impact of physical and neurological impairments, with limited functional recovery observed in many patients. Electroencephalogram (EEG) oscillations have been investigated in this context of rehabilitation to identify effective markers for optimizing rehabilitation treatments.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the treatment of hypernatremia in adult hospitalized patients: impact on mortality, morbidity, and treatment-related side effects.

Background: Hypernatremia is relatively common in acutely ill patients and associated with mortality. Guidelines recommend a slow rate of correction (≤ 0.5 mmol/L per hour).
